Lost in all the HIAC complaints...

...what happened to Dixie Carter's announcement that was supposed to come within 10 days of about two weeks ago?  There was supposed a TV deal announced on Friday if I'm not mistaken and that sure as shit didn't happen.  Meltzer was actually talking about it this morning, and apparently the Toby Keith deal was pretty close to happening for a decent chunk of money last year (you know, back when they were stringently denying that the company was for sale and all) but Toby backed out because Bob Carter insisted on Dixie staying on TV as a figurehead and retaining "some kind of job" with the company.  Also, something something red solo cup.  Did I do that country music reference right?  I'm from Saskatchewan and still don't listen to that shit, but I think he was the guy.  Anyway, I bet they're wishing they would have taken that deal now.

But I'm sure everything is great.

Comments

  1. I'm intrigued to see how this TNA stuff shakes out, because if you lay your eyes on the product that they're putting on TV the last few weeks...fundamentally speaking, it's not an AWFUL wrestling show, but it just reeks of a company that is on life support.

    ReplyDelete
  2. I guess me and my wrestling group over at PA were the only ones who thought HiaC was overall great, polarizing ending aside. Oh well.

    ReplyDelete
  3. I canceled my Network subscription and I am changing my credit card. WWE and TNA should both just fold. Both are incompetent.

    ReplyDelete
  4. I thought it was a good show. Pretty much everything was **1/2-***1/2. Ending was deflating but I didn't despise it.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Didn't they make the announcement that they had another announcement coming soon? I thought that was the announcement? Was it not the announcement?

    ReplyDelete
  6. You feel that strongly about both promotions that you're going through with actually changing your credit card number in protest? That's strong.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Thanks for the opinion dude. You're a bastion of positivity.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I have had it. Last night was the last straw. WWE has been killing wrestling to the point where I can no longer enjoy it since 2009. That was it. They can't deliver ANYTHING correctly. They have no future, they have no goals, and quite frankly they'll have no revenue soon.

    ReplyDelete
  9. So what is your credit card number?

    ReplyDelete
  10. The worst finish in 15 years will not get one positive comment from me.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I liked the PPV, even quite liked Cesaro/Ziggler I thought the early finish was fine. That ending was just...real real bad.

Asking for a finish to any one of three PPV matches in a row is not asking much I don't feel.

    ReplyDelete
  12. They announced an upcoming announcement via an announcement announcing said announcement?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Well, you're definitely entitled to your opinion, but to say "they'll have no revenue soon" means that either A) you're delusional, B) you don't know what the definition of "revenue" is, or C) both.

    ReplyDelete
  14. A FUCKING SMOKE FOUNTAIN AND LATIN CHANTS.

For a BACKWOODS REDNECK CREEP character. They don't even understand their characters, they don't understand motivations, they don't understand payoffs, they don't understand wrestling.

    ReplyDelete
  15. wtf is a nounce anyway

    ReplyDelete
  16. You mean the network which didn't hit half of projections and is losing tens of thousands of subscribers every earnings report?

    ReplyDelete
  17. "Oh they're coming. The dragons are on their way."

That episode of South Park is how I feel about TNA's TV deal announcement. We just keep getting big floppy wieners in our face.

Dixie is begging TV companies for a deal like she was begging Hogan to stay on his last night on Impact.

    ReplyDelete
  18. A nounce is an old, old wooden ship.

    ReplyDelete
  19. So a redneck character isn't allowed to know Latin? Good to know.

You're obviously set in your opinion and that's fine but if last night was your last straw then I won't pretend to get it. To each his or her own.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Assistant to the Assistant Announcement? I'm tellin' ya Rat.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Why would BRAY WYATT know Latin? How does that make ANY SENSE?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Maybe you are starting to realize that Meltzer is a bullshit artist that has no TNA sources....

    ReplyDelete
  23. We don't know the numbers yet.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Earnings report at the end of the week. Guessing under 500k.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Cause he wanted to learn it?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Highly doubt that's it. But we'll find out this week.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Bray's got a big pair of Rosetta Stones.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Yes, the same company. And last I checked, how many earnings reports have there been where they've lost "tens of thousands"? There's only been two public announcements of subscribers since the inception of the Network.

Like I said, you're absolutely entitled to be sick of the company based on what they've been putting out recently, but you'd be taken a little more seriously if you cut back on the hyperbole.

    ReplyDelete
  29. How is 2014 not the worst year for wrestling since 2003? Would you have justified someone having had their last straw in 2003? How is this year BETTER than 2003 in some way that justifies staying?

    ReplyDelete
  30. Where are the quotes from Dixie about this? There are none.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Oh, it's not a swindle. What you do is, see, you give 'em all your credit card numbers, and if one of them is lucky, they'll
    send you a prize.

    ReplyDelete
  32. When even Sting is like "This company is fucking joke, I'm getting out of here," you know it's bad. That guy stuck with the worse WCW had to offer and then some.

I saw clips from Bound for Glory on the latest Botchamania. Holy crap did that production look low-rent.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Lol, don't worry no one actually gives a shit about TNA, we're just making jokes.

    ReplyDelete
  34. 2014 is better than 2003 because of the better talent and NXT. The writing needs a ton of work for sure but WWE has a solid foundation to build on now.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Today's talent better than Kurt Angle, Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, Chris Jericho, RVD, Undertaker, Brock Lesnar (full time roster), HHH, Rock (more appearances), World's Greatest Tag Team, up and coming John Cena, etc...etc...? Hell no.

Honestly, out of the NXT roster I don't see anybody I see getting much above midcard player level except Sami Zayn and Charlotte. I think NXT is a tad overrated.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Meltzer aside, are you still confident that TNA is currently sorting through multiple offers and will be on TV with a profitable deal in 2015?

    ReplyDelete
  37. Yes. TNA will be on TV in 2015. I have zero doubts about that. They may have 2-3 deals on the table, some might be lower than the current Spike one, some might be higher, who knows? Announcing a TV deal now wouldn't do TNA any favors. They have three more weeks of "fresh" TV content left. Why announce now and confuse the audience? They are better off waiting until November 19th or so and then announcing their new network at the beginning of 2015. Perhaps they are waiting in case Spike wants to make a last second offer or change their minds? I don't know what TNA will look like in 2015, but I am 100% confident that they will be on TV each week. If I had to bet money right now, I'd say they end up on either WGN America or FXX. I am hoping for the latter.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Like Orton, Cena, Kane and the big show. They can mix and match them, do 4 way eliminations, tag matches and it'll never get old. It's exciting times to be a fan

    ReplyDelete
  39. Stranger in the AlpsOctober 27, 2014 at 1:17 PM

So, if I get this straight: a wacky ending to show (not the first in a line of wacky endings to shows, not the last) is sending a death knell to wrestling, even though the company still has millions in TV money and revenue, and a "network" that isn't even a year old where the kinks are still being worked out.
    .
If anything, I would say that a company with NO tv deal, 3-4 more weeks of pre-taped shows, and no announcement of a new deal even though one was promised would signal the end.
    .
For Pete's sake, it was a shitty ending. That lantern and hologram didn't cost the company 800 million dollars!! The lantern is $20 tops from Walmart, and the hologram probably came from a $500 projector. I'm just guessing here, really.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I really don't care one way or the other about TNA but when is there last show?

    ReplyDelete
  41. To be fair he is a well-spoken, intelligent character despite his redneck background. Tis why he is the 'leader' of the rednecks

    ReplyDelete
  42. Yeah it was a bad ending, but who cares? The show was $10. Get over it.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Plus it might lead to a really damn great feud.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Yeah, I mean obviously I totally disagree. Don't understand how you can look at the company in the state their in now--- ratings dropping, Spike passing on them, the thinnest and most starless roster they've had since their inception--- and somehow think they've got multiple suitors and that some of them might be looking to pay them MORE than what they're getting. That's obviously delusional wishful thinking to me, but we'll all know for sure with a few weeks.

nevertheless, I'd for real eat my hat if they ended up on a network as high level as FXX. Yes I know it's not FX, but nevertheless a channel built around high profile stuff like Always Sunny, The League, Simpsons rerun package etc will absolutely not touch TNA. Not f'n way. If TNA survives it's gonna be on Velocity or Speed or the fishing channel or something. The FX family? Not a chance. Absolutely no way, it'd make zero sense.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Why don't ya piss off, Fisher. Ya dottie wee skidmark.

    ReplyDelete
  46. A paying audience has a right to voice their opinion. "Get over it"? LOL give me a break with your WWE sheep attitude.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I paid $100 so far for the network this year and they have delivered one show I'd call a PPV in the form of Wrestlemania. So they are $45 behind on my scale.

    ReplyDelete
  48. He took it in high school?

    ReplyDelete
  49. I think he's real point is that TNA sucks.

    Which it totally does.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Take it you don't actually know

    ReplyDelete
  51. No offense dude but pot kettle black.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Stranger in the AlpsOctober 27, 2014 at 1:22 PM

I was watching and thinking "Gee, this is kinda dumb". I did not get angry about it. In my 30 years watching wrestling, how many times have I said "this is dumb"? Probably a few hundred times.

    ReplyDelete
  53. We'll see man. I have a pretty optimistic outlook on this. Dixie has billion dollar backers in her father. Anything can happen with that kind of cash. They are still pulling an average of 1 mill+ a week. I think all this negative attention from wrestling websites (i.e. Wrestlezone, The Observer) has done them no favors in trying to build up their internet fanbase.

    ReplyDelete
  54. OTHER than the 30+ years of solid reporting he's done? And you're trusting the one person with EVERY motivation to lie?

    ReplyDelete
  55. Meltzer has made the "10 day" prediction at LEAST three times now.

    ReplyDelete
  56. "Why announce now and confuse the audience?" Also, that's crazy. They absolutely would want to get this done and announced as soon as possible and get the word out on their only high profile platform, which is their TV show. TNA isn't strategically holding off on announcing their new home, they simply don't have one yet.

If TNA is gonna return in Jan 2015, you really think they'd prefer to wait until late Dec 2014 to get the word out? That's a horrible strategy. They need to use whatever Spike TV time they have and create a huge marketing campaign outside of Spike. Waiting til the last second to do that would be ridiculous strategy.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Nitro will be on TV too, but wcw is still dead.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I liked the ppv enough to keep my network subscription. But I'll continue to not watch the current product. Nothing offended me but nothing enticed me to start watching Raw again.
TNA has been slowly going off the rails since they decided to get any and every old star instead of creating/pushing their own. TNA's course was set as soon as Kurt Angle walked in and beat Samoa Joe. They can (and have) survived as a second rate WWE but they'll never be anything more than that

    ReplyDelete
  59. They are probably in the same position the UFC was in on Spike where Spike is going to play TNA reruns for the next year and TNA cannot promote their channel move. Don't take that as TNA defense, i just know what Spike did to the UFC was a big part of the UFC's downfall and the failure of their Fox deal.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Stranger in the AlpsOctober 27, 2014 at 1:24 PM

Voicing your opinion is one thing. Denouncing wrestling over a bad ending is another. I mean, some people have literally said that they are jumping ship. Where were these people when Kane electrocuted Shane McMahon's nutsack?

    ReplyDelete
  61. Wait until they are done with their fresh content, yes. Why say "Oh have signed a deal with X network!" then watch the ratings drop a bit when people are tuning into X network wondering where TNA is.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Zero doubts? Like it 100% going to happen? You are THAT sure of it?

    ReplyDelete
  63. I think ten years of TNA has done them no favors in building ANY kind of fanbase.
Dude, their plight is Dixie Carter's fault, not Dave Meltzer. Meltzer hasn't hired creative, booked the promotion, run the marketing campaigns, etc. Dixie has. If TNA fails it's on her, not wrestling websites.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Hey now, that was the greatest night in the history of our sport!

    ReplyDelete
  65. Even WWE had to wait until the last couple of weeks to announce they were moving to USA.

Dana White said that Spike is an awful network and I can see why.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Of course TNA will be TV.

    ...in Uzbekistan.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Or when Kane shot fire out of his hand, if we stick with the supernatural stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Well, TNA is starting to turn things around product wise. I'm not taking the doom and gloom outlook on it like others are. TNA has had its fair share of shit moments, but it is an alternative.

    ReplyDelete
  69. That seems to be a pretty harsh reaction to an innocent question.

    ReplyDelete
  70. You might be slightly more angry if you stayed up till 4am watching it (like European fans) (I didn't - just saying)

    ReplyDelete
  71. I hated last night's ending. The show itself was mediocre. I'll still be watching though.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Come on man you're not stupid, you gotta know that's silly. They're gonna say "starting in January we're moving to Velocity" and next week people are gonna tune into Velocity and not turn to Spike? That's crazy. Getting people to check out the new channel is the most difficult part, and to do that they need to get word out as soonly and clearly as possible, and do it using their biggest platform possible.

You really think the best strategy is to wait until the Spike deal runs out (or wait until they're airing those "best-of" shows that you KNOW are gonna get garbage ratings) until they start informing their fanbase? Again man, you know that's just not true. Obviously the best case scenario would be to start telling the fanbase as soon as possible and to get their outside marketing campaign going immediately.

You really think the smart move is to announce it after fans have already moved on (which happens after the last "new" Spike show)? On what, Dixie's twitter?

    ReplyDelete
  73. How in the world is not releasing being on a new network a smart idea?

    - You have free promotion when the latest round of taping cycles ends - since you're running "best of" shows anyway, it makes sense to plug the new network. If Spike cared, they would've re-signed them, but they're doing the most blatant "going through the motions" run you can. And it also allows the "best of" shows to build to upcoming programs, creating anticipation. "How will EY's relationship with Rockstar grow?"
    - You put the fanbase (and more importantly, the talent) at rest and add certainty other than "we'll be on TV SOMEWHERE!" I mean, really - you don't think the talent would venture into social media, excited about being on another network?
    - It builds anticipation - you're telling people we will be here at X, and don't miss it! The ones who are sheep will find it, but that's your core - you're trying to grow, not shrink.
    - Finally, it puts to rest all the "TNA is TBA!" rumors.

It all makes the most business sense. Which is why we won't see it.

    ReplyDelete
  74. The Wrestlemania stream was really shitty too.

    ReplyDelete
  75. TNA's new distribution deal= YouTube

    ReplyDelete
  76. Like Jared mentioned "bellow" (see what I did there), what if Spike won't letl them announce it? Could be a breach of contract or something?

    ReplyDelete
  77. That's kind of funny from a TNA koolaid enthusiast.

    ReplyDelete
  78. How do you cancel it if you are locked in for the 6 months?

    ReplyDelete
  79. Spike propped TNA up for years way beyond what they deserved. Dude, the network was paying salaries for the big money talent! That's completely nuts. TNA couldn't have dreamt up a more supportive TV partner than Spike TV.

Why do you feel TNA's situation is everyone else's fault (it's Spike's fault! It's Dave Meltzer's fault!) aside from Dixie and TNA management itself?

    ReplyDelete
  80. I don't feel like it is anyone's fault. The contract is expiring and Spike and TNA have decided to move on. Things happen. Spike gave TNA a bunch of money and paid some salaries. Dixie was a blind goof bringing in Hogan and Bischoff and blowing wads of cash on Sting and guys like that. TNA's "situation" is being blown way out of proportion by the internet. Just because they haven't announced a TV deal on 10/27/2014 for next YEAR, doesn't mean that they haven't reached a verbal or signed agreement with another network and are either choosing to not announce or aren't legally able to announce the deal yet.

    ReplyDelete
  81. They don't have a deal to announce. if they did, they'd announce it.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Typical wishful thinking from my fellow smarks. "I don't like the product so the company's obviously in its death throes!"

    ReplyDelete
  83. FXX is angling to be the premiere home for comedy on cable and WGN is dipping it's toes into AMC-like programming now. Neither one would ever touch TNA. WGN dumped WWE after all, no need to go out and get a fourth rate imitator.

    ReplyDelete
  84. davidbonzaisaldanamontgomeryOctober 27, 2014 at 1:39 PM

Every time I hear stuff about Sith Wyatt holograms running interference and the Bellas still getting PPV time keeps validating that I'm making a good decision in just getting my wresrling fix with Network archive stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  85. davidbonzaisaldanamontgomeryOctober 27, 2014 at 1:41 PM

If Spike doesn't want it, FX isn't going to slum it either. I'm guessing WGN if anything, especially since they're dropping sports altogether but don't have a set identity where they could probably use a first-run program like TNA.

    ReplyDelete
  86. The network that they were on decided that they don't want them on their network anymore. I'm sorry man, but that's a huge f'n deal. This isn't a small thing. TNA survives solely because of it's TV deal, and the network isn't giving them a TV deal. That's not "things happen", that's what happens when a TV show gets cancelled.

And if they're gonna be on TV in January 2015, then yes Oct 27, 2014 is very late in the game to have nothing announced. They have 3 taped shows in the can and then TNA pretty much goes dark.

    ReplyDelete
  87. On top of that, the wrestling up and down the show was pretty good outside of (guessing) the bellas match which I did not watch and (maybe) the Orton/Cena match I half-watched.

    ReplyDelete
  88. I think TNA will last at least one more year just because they need to fulfill the international TV deals. I have no idea where they'll be in the US but my gut says either streaming on YouTube or on a fledgling network looking for viewers. They're not dead yet but they have most of the body in the grave.

    ReplyDelete
  89. They gotta be able to make enough money to pay people. A few international TV deals and Google AdSense money isn't gonna be enough.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Change credit card number or paypal to be a dead end. They don't get your soc or anything so I don't think it should affect your credit rating.

    ReplyDelete
  91. It was stupid as hell, but really it wasn't any dumber than 1,000 other things that have happened with The Undertaker alone.

    ReplyDelete
  92. I think the Wyatt thing has been overstated. Sure it sucks that it interrupted the Ambrose/Rollins match but I don't honesty think it was all that goofy.

    ReplyDelete
  93. I just a wrestling company that isn't run by a woman. That shit is like a guy running the Lifetime network.

    ReplyDelete
  94. I like you...

    ReplyDelete
  95. Certainly not a politically correct comment but certainly a true comment. The same can be said for Stephanie's influence in WWE, it has been crippling to the company.

    ReplyDelete
  96. davidbonzaisaldanamontgomeryOctober 27, 2014 at 1:57 PM

Lifetime is easier to book than a Cena/Orton match. Golden Girls and The Nanny in the morning, then endless Movie of the Week where the woman hero tries to kill her abusive husband, presumably starring Daphne Zuniga and Rob Lowe

    ReplyDelete
  97. If Rob Lowe were in a movie as an abusive husband I'd have no choice but to root for Rob Lowe.

The only acceptable use of a hologram would be to do it in the fashion of Total Recall?

  101. They air here in the UK on a channel whose only other programming is old episodes of British gameshows they probably found tapes of in a bin somewhere. I doubt they get much money from them.

    ReplyDelete
  102. The great thing about YouTube is they can buy "views" to make themselves appear more popular than they are. Then they can continue to insist that everything is fine even if nobody is actually watching.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Lucky for us we just put our clocks back and only had to stay up to 3am! Two thumbs up from me!

Actually I watched it all on fast forward this afternoon. The days of staying up for live WWE are long gone.

  107. Ever hear Missy Hyatt on podcasts? She may be crazy but she seems to know her wrestling.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Or that TNA are bullshit artists with no deals to announce....

    ReplyDelete
  113. You're just a wrestling that isn't run by a woman? Whaaa?

    ReplyDelete
  114. I'm fairly certain gender has nothing to do with anything

    ReplyDelete
  115. It's very late to announce a deal if you're unable to run shows for close to three months as a result. TNA's gonna miss out on possibly up to fifty bucks of gate revenue during this period.

    ReplyDelete
  116. I just watched Wayne's World two nights ago (still awesome) and not only does Rob Lowe look exactly the same, but he also used LITERALLY in exactly the same way. He's basically been Rob Lowe in everything from the very beginning.

    ReplyDelete
  117. This thread is 100% how I predicted it would go before reading the comments.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Indeed. Wayne's World is a sneaky classic. I think my favorite Parks and Recs Chris moment is the one where they are camping in the woods and runs on the site wearing ridiculously colorful, high tech jogging equipment. Miss him on that show something fierce.

I fucking love that show but man does it fall off a cliff when those two leave,I have no idea how they're going to put a new heart in the show.

    ReplyDelete
  123. TNA is my second favorite Botchamania promotion. CZW is first. I can't believe the stuff they try.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Sam on West Wing was quite a bit different role for him I'd say.

    ReplyDelete
  125. I don't miss Ann at all but Chris leaving definitely sucks. Not that it matters because this upcoming season is the last.

Losing Pratt for half a season was worse than losing Ann and Chris though.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Ehh, he's smarter certainly but there's a shitload of Chris Traeger/Sam Seaborne similarities too.

    ReplyDelete
  127. That dude isn't going to be on TV for 10 years once Parks wraps up.

    ReplyDelete
  128. Scott Keith has ZERO SOURCES AT TNA!!! Everything is FINE!!! One million viewers a week.

    ReplyDelete
  129. I think he'll do ok for himself.

    ReplyDelete
  130. I was thinking the same thing. The hammering home about the TV deal was on point.

    ReplyDelete
  131. Missy comparing dick sizes with dicks on a board in the KC shoot is one of my favorite shoots ever.

    ReplyDelete
  132. The problem with Chris was that whole depression story just kept on going and going.

    ReplyDelete
  133. No, that's what I mean, his ass isn't going to be doing sitcom shit, we won't see him on the little box no more.

    ReplyDelete
  134. Rob Lowe has been killing it with his DirecTV commercials lately.

    ReplyDelete
  135. Speaking of movies about abusive spouses fighting back I have to recommend South Korean film Punch Lady currently available on Netflix. Good stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  136. Those are great, he appears to be having the most fun ever. And it sort of makes sense, when does Rob Lowe ever get to play the ugly, fat sweaty guy? I bet those parts were a blast for him.

Under 500K with the new international subscribers? You still think they managed to lose 260K?

  138. They've hit that point ECW reached where there are literally too expensive to continue to exist. They can't generate enough revenue to pay for enough talent to draw good enough ratings to justify a meaningful TV deal which means not enough revenue to pay for talent... downward death spiral.

  139. I agree. Women are there to use the man making millions running the wrestling company, and buy nice things.

Not to mention the introduction of the Network, which I still think is awesome, as I can sit at my desk at work and watch random old wrestling on my phone or tablet, or watch something using the Wi-Fi at my gym while I do cardio.

I still say, until someone tells me otherwise, that it was "He's Got The Whole World In His Hands" spoken backwards.

  142. Season 7 is going to be several years in the future though, isn't it? Like in that scene at the end of Season 6. I'm sure all the kid stuff will give the show some heart.

  143. You've paid $100 for quite a few PPVs. Also, there's more to the $10/month than just the PPVs. Are they firing on all cylinders? Absolutely not, but still. Not like this is the first WTF moment to ever take place on a PPV.

  144. I'm not a sheep. I don't even watch the TV shows anymore, but call me what you want. It's fine. The only money I invest in this company is through the Network.

I'm just saying, it isn't the first or last time you'll see a really dumb finish to a PPV.

  145. I don't think it's a woman thing, it's more a "the boss's daughter" thing. I'm sure there are plenty of smart, talented women who could run WWE or TNA well, but not your brat kid who can't be fired and has no motivation to do a good job.
