While the plan remains for Sting to wrestle against the Undertaker at WrestleMania 31, there is some talk that Sting vs. HHH might happen and it could even be before WrestleMania.

AJ Lee Update

There are no current plans for AJ to leave the WWE. Her match at Survivor Series was booked that way for storyline only and not because she is leaving or requesting a release.

  1. Yeah, they are fucking horrible in every way.

    ReplyDelete
  2. unfortunately him being a career midcarder (with a very few main even spots in between) sounds very likely.

    ReplyDelete
  3. his left arm, obviously.

    ReplyDelete
  4. btw: now this is a spot I want to see.

    ReplyDelete
  5. the backup plan is for him to bring along one of his thongs and if he can't calm the mob down he'll pull it out and stinkface a picture of local politicians and police

  6. How long has Andy and Molly Holly been married now?

    ReplyDelete
  7. From that point at the promo to the end of the show, it was just garbage up and down. There seemed to be a lot of fresh directions, but it just didn't have a good vibe to it like the Raw after Mania or even the Raw after Battleground to set up Summerslam did. And do we really need to go back 5 years to the weekly guest GM thing, or 4 years to the anonymous GM? I guess there will always be an authority role in wrestling now, since that's what happened in 1998, and based on what the company promotes for the network, all of wrestling is based on what happened in that 1996-2001 period.

  8. The fact that you're trying to impose your view on how to "correctly rate a match," and your subsequent explanations represent some of the most insanely silly things I've ever seen on this blog. Also being concerned with "protecting the integrity" of star ratings kind of blows my mind.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Could Paul Heyman be the anonymous GM? To me, that would make a metric ton of sense. Reveal him as the anonymous GM at the Rumble to help set up Brock's WM match, have the champ and the GM heel it up so the crowd gets behind someone, then have Brock put someone over on his way out (assuming rumors are true and he's leaving for UFC after WM).

Of course, because it makes sense, this won't happen, it'll drag on for more than a year, and the big reveal will be El Torito.

  10. I feel like Annie should be singing in the background when I read these recaps.

    ReplyDelete
  11. >He gets six inches from HHH
    Umm...

    ReplyDelete
  12. My favourite little thing on this show: Rusev slowly wiping Sarge's spittle off his face when he first started speaking :)

    ReplyDelete
  13. Couldn't agree more with Ziegler here. Star ratings are great and all, but I don't get people deluding themselves to think they've come up with some truly objective (and correct!) system. It's all subjective. The criticism of the rating is fine (because it is after all subjective) but don't act like you're all high and mighty with this objective ratings system. Opinions differ. That's fine. Don't act like your is objectively better.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Wow this sucks - i completely agree with underskill's point here, but think he in fact is the biggest dbag in this discussion. No need to make this personal. That being said, pretending that your ratings are truly objective is nonsense.

    ReplyDelete
  15. As we all should - especially you. But yeah, i get your point.

    ReplyDelete
  16. OH HERE WE GO AGAIN, MY FAVORITE JERK IS BACK. Why don't you take a long walk of a short peer.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Star ratings aren't mostly objective. It's the opposite, twit.

    ReplyDelete
  18. No it doesn't. It means you disagree with him. There are many critics whose movie reviews I disagree with but I enjoy reading what they have to say and why.

You want him to use a rating that reflects your opinion

    ReplyDelete
  20. Sorry if this has been covered, but I was at Raw last night and I'm pretty sure the crowd distraction during Ambrose/Harper was someone stealing all the cotton candy from a vendor and throwing it into the crowd.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I thought it was more like ... keep adding stars until the number of stars matches how much you liked the match ... or until you get to 5 ... whatever comes first.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I think your opinion would be better received if it was more along the lines of, "I disagree. I think it deserved 'this' many stars, and here's why." As opposed to: "You don't even know how to tell people the degree to which you like a match."

    ReplyDelete
  23. Yeah I hate when story lines are paid off and heels get their comeuppance.

    ReplyDelete
  24. No, you'd provide us with your star ratings. Look at a board like prowrestlingonly. There are a lot of matches people consider classics that they frown upon. And your arguing over star ratings for a nothing RAW. Come on.

    ReplyDelete
  25. This has to be trolling

    ReplyDelete
  26. Kane can't even manage concessions correctly!

    ReplyDelete
  27. More that people were all 'OMG HE'LL SAVE THE RATINGS' and he didn't. Because he's just not an Austin or a Rock business wise.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Their comeuppance was the last 20 mins of Survivor Series which was awesome. It was good to see Bryan back and he's entitled to gloat a little bit but he went OTT and was just way too childish with it

    ReplyDelete
  29. No, just to appropriately apply the existing 5-star system or adopt a system he is more comfortable with. I'm a workrate purist so I'm trying to prevent the bastardization of the star system.

    ReplyDelete
  30. A little tounge in cheek there but there are hard objective factors to star ratings that should keep everyone's relatively close, subjective enjoyment not withstanding. And his ratings fall too far outside the appropriate zone. I have no quibble with his content but his star ratings are misleading.

    ReplyDelete
  31. You just disagree with him.

    ReplyDelete
  32. "The bastardization of the star system."

    ReplyDelete
  33. He sided with the white guy.

    ReplyDelete
  34. It won't last if he keeps cutting long-winded promo segments like last night. Woof.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Bryan "Yes-ing" the Authority out of the arena was fine. Bryan then still being on the mic for another 15 minutes after the commercial break was NOT. That was painful, and his segments for the rest of the night were just lame.

    ReplyDelete
  36. To be fair, my mom reads almost everything I write if it gets published.

    ReplyDelete
  37. There are a lot of objective factors at play in a star rating.

    ReplyDelete
  38. If we're going to have them, and use them, it might as well be done right. Sorry that debating star ratings isn't what your looking for at a blog for the most devoted of wrestling fans.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I didn't come up with that system at all. Jim Cornette did. And Meltzer popularized it. I'm just pointing out the correct way its meant to be used. Yes there is an appropriate way to apply star ratings, beyond just how much you subjectively liked a match. If someone writing a recap doesn't know how or want to appropriately rate a match on the 5 star system, then they should just use some other way to rate the match. All I'm saying.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Yeah, a huge part of them is. If you don't like it, rate the match another way.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Yeah but the same way I disagree with people who think the earth is 6,000 years old. Star ratings are based off more than, how one particular person liked a match. It is an examination of all the factors I listed above and how they were handled in any particular match. I actually use a counting system to keep track of all the different factors and I have number range for each quarter star. Its obviously still part art, but there is a lot of science in rating a match on the 5 star system. I can see how someone would think that is silly or whatever, but that is how it works. If a reviewer doesn't like that there are literally countless other ways to indicate your opinion on the quality of the match that doesn't involve calling a two star match 3.25 stars.

    ReplyDelete
  42. The earth not being 6,000 years old can be proven by science. Ambrose v. Harper being three stars is up to the viewers direction. The guy at 411 gave it three stars too.

Look at a match like Bret Owen at Summerslam. Scott Keith and Dave Meltzer gave it *****. Some people think it's one of the best cage matches ever. I love it. A lot of people hate it and consider it a glorified climbing contest.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Wow you are just so creative! Come up with that one yourself? That'll serve you well in your imagined writing career. Think of all the story lines you could come up with that thinking - maybe a ego maniac boss vs. a beer drinking redneck? That'd be so new. Maybe a nondescript group wearing swat gear wreaking havoc? That'd be so original. Maybe a big giant bird hatching from a giant egg next survivor series? Never been done before.

    ReplyDelete
  44. And again, that works...FOR YOU. You thought the match was two stars. I quite enjoyed it.

Look at a board like prowrestlingonly where matches a lot of people think are great get shit on it all the time. Some people think HBK was one of the best and you get people who don't like a lot of his antics in matches. Steamboat v. Savage is a GOAT to some and others don't get it.

Keep in mind, this is all over a nothing RAW match that no one will even remember in two weeks

    ReplyDelete
  45. Least favorite part of Survivor Series was when Bray had a string of spit going from his hand to his mouth for longer than I thought possible.

    ReplyDelete
  46. HAHAHAH Giant egg?? What a dumb idea. I bet you're buddy made that one up and Vince shot it down (as if Vince even knows you're buddy) LOLOL Also, you don't even wanna know my ideas you're friend would probably steal them -- but I wrote them down and then mailed them to myself -- so I DARE YOU to break copyright law. My idea is Boojy Meanie messes with the wrong guy and gets his ass kicked 5 ways from next Tuesday.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Ooh you emailed crappy ass ideas to yourself huh? Good work moron. That'll save you when no one ever steals your ideas. Way to make this whole thing personal and then try to pick a fight. I really hope your daddy beats your ass this Thanksgiving. Have fun over the holidays with your imaginary girlfriend, imaginary career, and imaginary million dollar ideas. Happy Thanksgiving. Now I'm off because I have a real job, where I make real money (not just $$$$ like you) and I'm leaving it to take a real vacation to be with real family and I'm off to ask out a real girl (who hasn't slept with my indy wrestling idol). Also I will have real beer and real alcohol because I am older than 10 years old.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Debating star ratings is a thing wrestling fans can do. Debate is "Oh you only gave the match **? I'd give it more like *** because I liked the finish and how it played into the story." Everyone going by your system and giving everything the same star rating is literally the absence of debate.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Oh jesus was I arguing with the guy who said a wrestler tried to steal his ideas at an indy show?

    ReplyDelete
  50. Because champions who are sticking around job in 30 seconds?

    ReplyDelete
  51. OK JABRONI....my girl's ex is NOT MY IDOL but he is a nice guy, and I can't help that they're friends, OK? They haven't even gone on a trip together since the Spring! HAHAHA YOU DUNCE -- DO YOU REALLY THINK I'M MAKING ANYTHING UP? Knowing you, you probably can't even drink two cases of beer without throwing up, you woman. Me on the other hand knows how to drink like a MAN. I only drink Rum. Chumps like you can't drink like that because you're too busy asking weirdos at the store to buy you natty ice because you're only 10 years old

    ReplyDelete
  52. No, you weren't because that didn't happen. Get your facts straight.

    ReplyDelete
  53. He was the last person to deliver the "party's over" line, back when Brock interrupted Hogan's birthday celebration.

    ReplyDelete
  54. The show is largely designed for kids, and I would imagine Bryan is pretty popular with kids. He's supposed to be a fun-loving guy (albeit with a warrior spirit) whose two catchphrases are a combined five letters. So I wouldn't expect Bryan to take over for The Authority and suddenly turn into a Machiavellian leader. They keep it simple with him.

    ReplyDelete
  55. He's never wrestling again.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Ooh rum...how fancy. First of all, natty ice is awesome. Second of all, who drinks rum?

    ReplyDelete
  57. Yoko, Backlund, Bryan (twice), AJ earlier this year, several MITB cash-ins...

    ReplyDelete
  58. I am not talking about booking plans, i am talking what the fanbase wanted. Sting vs. HHH isn't unwanted but I think it's a pretty much second or even third choice behind Sting vs. Undertaker and probably Sting vs. Cena.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Bro, I'm a man's man. Look it up. I drink Cap'n Morgan. You on the other hand eat capn crunch berries and brag about it like a Cena fan.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Dean's overrated, it's a shame cause I like his energy, but he's too fake and his wrestling is too sub-par.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Fuck...been reading some Kafka lately?

    ReplyDelete
  62. Dude, have you ever taken an art class or a film class?

Not even the most highblown, stick-up-his-ass critic thinks that there's an objective way to judge movies.

Plus, your list of qualifying statements is ridiculous, yes, that's everything that goes into a wrestling match, but those words that you use, like "quality" and "tell a story" are subjective features. Yes, you should judge a wrestling match on the wrestling, the crowd reactions and the story told, but everybody has a different hierarchy of what matters more and what is good wrestling or bad wrestling (a good lucha match would be a bad rasslin' match).

Criticism (which grading wrestling matches are) is not about creating an objectively true reality, criticism is about letting the audience into the mind of the critic and hopefully expanding their own horizons. There's two reasons to read a critic, A) you either have the same taste of the opposite taste, and if they like/dislike something you can induce that you'd like the same things or B) the critic is articulate and they make you look at the piece from a different perspective or take into consideration different factors.

Given all that shit, your religious-esque faithfulness to proper match judgement is the most absurd thing I've seen in a while. Andy is a shitty writer and I don't agree with or understand his taste in wrestling at all, but to say that he doesn't know how a ten point grading system works is some bizarre, next level mental acrobatics.
