WWE Locker Room Reaction to CM Punk on Colt Cabana's Podcast

Apparently just about everyone in the locker room, even those who disliked Punk and were happy to see him leave, loved listening to him on the podcast and were happy that he said everything he did regarding what is going on in the company. Also, while Vince McMahon was upset at what Punk said, HHH is reportedly fuming at Punk as one talent texted Bryan Alvarez that HHH wants to "kill" Punk.

Comments

  1. I can only imagine how many times Tommy Dreamer turns that interview about himself.

    ReplyDelete
  2. Ok, this is the truth, I just woke up and was still groggy, and when I saw an early "Daily Update", i had to make 100% sure that it was Saturday, and not Friday where I was 2,5 hours late from work.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Funny how some of the lockerroom is happy that Punk spoke out. "Voice of the Voiceless" indeed.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Other news missing from the update; This year’s Hell in a Cell did 76,000 PPV buys compared to 228,000 for last year’s.
Now I don't know if this is Domestic or International, but it seems like WWE are having their cake and eating it too. Despite the network and some carriers dropping WWE, they are still getting respectable PPV numbers.

    ReplyDelete
  5. I can't wait to see the Survivor Series buyrate. We'll find out exactly how many WWE fans are complete idiots for paying for something they could've gotten for free.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Not everyone is able to get the Network for various reasons.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Agreed, 76K legit PPV buys on top of network numbers is not too shabby of a number. Still definitely a loss in this initial year of the Network, but that 76K number sure helps.

It again goes to my point that "people are creatures of habit", and they are still willing to pay for WWE, just not this new scary technology Network thingy.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I started to watch the trailer and had to turn it off after a couple of minutes because Dreamer wouldn't shut the hell up.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Yes. Including being complete idiots.

    ReplyDelete
  10. If you think financially (ignoring costs) WWE get all of the money from the network, but for PPV, they only get 50% so. for every $50 PPV they sell they get $25
This means that they need to get 2.5 network subscribers for the month to be equal to every old PPV buyer. With 150,000 fewer viewers they needed 450,000 subscribers and I believe on the last quarterly report they had about 850,000.
Whilst WWE may not be making billions on the network and due to the huge start up costs are probably still in the red, they are a million miles away from being in a bad shape financially.

    ReplyDelete
  11. "Barbie, what is your favorite ECW moment?"

"When I was in Extreme Expose! Tee hee!"

    "...."

    ReplyDelete
  12. If Barbie Blank a big enough name that we are supposed to recognise it without the character name? Even with her face as the thumbnail, I didn't realise who it was until Dreamer mentioned her character.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Yep, I always laugh at the WCW2000 comparisons. It's one thing to be upset that your favorite guys aren't main eventers, but it's one of the dumbest comparisons ever. Unless you really wanna compare Cena and Orton in their 30's, and Show/Kane in their 40's, to the 50+ year old club that could barely move in WCW.

    ReplyDelete
  14. A percentage of the network money goes to MLB Advanced Media.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Don't ask me! I'm just a girl! Tee hee hee!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Tommy hit that.

I will say this she seems more interesting to listen to than most of the Divas that have been interviewed.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Isn't Tommy still with Belulah?

    ReplyDelete
  18. "Whilst WWE may not be making billions on the network and due to the huge start up costs are probably still in the red, they are a million miles away from being in a bad shape financially."

THIS. While the Network numbers aren't want they want them to be, overall they are increasing incrementally. And they're making more money on TV than they were before. This is hardly a company that is hurting.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Of course they are. Punk is saying what they're thinking. Until they can be a point financially where they can do what Punk did, they have to tow the line. And if I was Dolph Ziggler and Cesaro, I would deny knowing that Punk did the podcast because I can see them buried if HHH knew they even cracked a smile about it.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Anyone asked about that podcast needs to be like "CM Who? That chipmunk guy in the indies? He's kinda funny. But seriously I've never heard of the guy, and HHH is the best."

    ReplyDelete
  21. Yes to both of you.

    ReplyDelete
  22. "Barbie, I understand you were Kelly Kelly. Did you know I am a former ECW Champion and that I was going to buy into ECW? Did you know I helped out behind the scenes? I had a feud with Raven. It lasted forever. Go ahead Kelly, ask me anything."

    ReplyDelete
  23. WWE's last Network number was 731K, not awful, but not great.

    ReplyDelete
  24. True, but we need to stop with the idea that all the money from the network goes strait to WWE.

    ReplyDelete
  25. 731k is not great compared to what? Is there an equivalent out there that is doing better? (Netflix and similar are not an equivalent as they have a far broader fanbase)

    ReplyDelete
  26. Compared to 4 million watching RAW every week.
    Compared to there "break even"

    ReplyDelete
  27. They really need to roll it out on all the Smart TVs they can. I think that would help.

    ReplyDelete
  28. "Wasn't that during the 90's? Ew. You're old!"

    ReplyDelete
  29. *while spotting HHH as he put up 600 LBs on the pench

    ReplyDelete
  30. In all seriousness, yes. They need to "play the game" (pun sort of intended)

    ReplyDelete
  31. That might be Tommy's exact words.

    ReplyDelete
  32. That *is* what it's all about

    ReplyDelete
  33. I'm still under the belief that when Vince dies (and he doesn't come back as a head in a jar from Futurama), the territories will eventually return and the industry will go old school as wrestlers will have options if they don't like where they are. And that's just one benefit...

    ReplyDelete
  34. 2015 will be they year too see if the Network was the right decision or not. They underestimated the startup costs and overestimated what they would get in rights fees. They made a bunch of cuts to stop the bleed. After that, 2015 is going to be the make or break for the network.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Just think if they added WWE FIlms to the network they could compete with Netflix! Also where is XFL???

    ReplyDelete
  36. Barbie: "Excuse me Tommy, but I was in the real ECW. You and some elderly gentleman named Raven were in some backyard company named ECW. It's sad you still talk about it."

    ReplyDelete
  37. Looking forward to seeing HHH's face next time he's in the ring and massive CM Punk chants ring out

    ReplyDelete
  38. I haven't seen No Holds Barred in years. If it was on, I'd watch.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Cancelled my network subscription. I would rather dig out my old VHS tapes than give them the satisfaction of having my money. There is something very nostalgic and wonderful about watching an old show on a VHS that was recorded off of a black box.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Extant1979 - Mr. Cable AccessNovember 29, 2014 at 8:14 AM

    THAT is on Netflix.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Extant1979 - Mr. Cable AccessNovember 29, 2014 at 8:15 AM

Right? Freaked me out a little bit.

    ReplyDelete
  42. More interesting to me is seeing how Ryback would handle the same situation.

    ReplyDelete
  43. My college picks:
Oregon over those no good Beavers
    Alabama over Auburn
    Florida upsets Florida State
    Mississippi State over Ole Miss
    Ohio State over Michigan

    ReplyDelete
  44. Good thing they have the eight second delay; alot of audio drops.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I was thinking they should have Ryback repeat that table spot with whoever he's wrestling at TLC

    ReplyDelete
  46. I don't know why i was reminded of fat Barry Windham being pushed in 1999 when I read your post, but there you go.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I'm assuming that the tv rights for the films are set up that they can't also broad cast them themselves on another channel. Otherwise there is no good reason why they weren't part of day 1 roll out.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Ole Miss over Miss St.gonna be a 10 to 7 type game. Prescott will not make enough plays/

    Florida/FSU will be interesting.

    ReplyDelete
  49. And I didn't even WANT to be champion

    ReplyDelete
  50. It was sadness in downtown Tempe yesterday (I work two blocks away from Sun Devil Stadium). I have zero use for the AZ teams. Sun Devils always choke and the Wildcats are coached by the idiot who set back the Michigan program several decades.

    ReplyDelete
  51. It's my favourite day of the college football season, Ohio State vs Michigan. GO BUCKS!!

    ReplyDelete
  52. As a Ducks fan, I'm worried about the Pac-12 Championship game.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Signs by Tesla was far lower than I would have expected.

    ReplyDelete
  54. My distain for for Jimbo and Winston makes me root for whoever they're playing

    ReplyDelete
  55. "Sorry, I'm married to Phil Brooks. Never heard of this other guy."

    ReplyDelete
  56. Not interesting
    Ok, I'll probably watch
    That's good. Change is good.
They give pretty much anyone a shoot interview, huh?

    ReplyDelete
  57. Extant1979 - Mr. Cable AccessNovember 29, 2014 at 8:23 AM

I thought Godsmack was WAAAAY too high.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Tesla was a very underrated band. They got unfairly lumped in with the hair metal bands. Tesla did a great job on that song.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Well, I mean. Punk mostly just said that Ryback was green as shit, which we all knew and which he knew as well.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Wow. Group Z is LOADED.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Damn right. Jeff Keith has such a great voice.

    ReplyDelete
  62. But you've probably heard the song.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I hate Ohio State. The fan base is so over the top

    ReplyDelete
  64. HUH? what tv rights?

All there movies were or still are on Netflix. I havnt been a subscriber in years. Legendary and is on Hulu.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I actually did it before I went to bed last night and scheduled it for 9:30am.

    ReplyDelete
  66. He'll have a real zinger in mind.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Ryback should come out in a Punk shirt on Raw.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I did just play it to see if I knew it.

I obviously know the Five Man Electrical Band original, but I've never heard this cover. It's good though, to be honest.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Yeah, I remember them getting a shitload of local radio play but wasnt really a fan. That was their most popular song though. I went with:

    Hip Hop Hooray
    Friday I'm In Love
    Sex and Candy
    Scenario
    Signs

    ReplyDelete
  70. I think you can get it on a few of them now.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Extant1979 - Mr. Cable AccessNovember 29, 2014 at 8:28 AM

And here I was hoping that since the Authority was no longer in power, that we wouldn't see Triple H on TV for a while.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I would hate for there to not be a major national promotion but at the same time it would be fun to track down local indy shows as the only option for watching new wrestling.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Extant1979 - Mr. Cable AccessNovember 29, 2014 at 8:28 AM

Good addition to a Saturday morning, Bayless. I like it.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I married a Wolverine fan when Rich Rod was running the show so you can only imagine the meltdowns I had to endure since then. Michigan gets worked today, Uncle Brady gets canned and the prodigal son Jim Harbaugh returns when he bolts from the Bay.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Not exactly. There was a discussion on this a couple months ago. At best, they are breaking even. McMahon wouldn't have promised the moon if he thought 750K subs and less than 100K buys was going to break the bank.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Now all TNA needs to do is get rid of Taz.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Scott Steiner would be the perfect guy for color commentary.

    ReplyDelete
  78. On a serious not Lanny Poffo would do an excellent job.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Graham is just like Houston Nutt. You probably will not get that and it's fine. He is a guy that will get an upset here and there, maybe win a division once in awhile. He'll do just enough to keep his job way longer than he should.

    ReplyDelete
  80. A Raw beginning without a 20 minute HHH promo??? That is madness!

    ReplyDelete
  81. Still watchng that Star Wars teaser.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Ha! Completely forgot about that. Good timing I guess

    ReplyDelete
  83. Extant1979 - Mr. Cable AccessNovember 29, 2014 at 8:31 AM

Whatever was their most popular song? I thought that was Voodoo...

My picks were basically the same except swap out Signs for Nothing Else Matters.

    ReplyDelete
  84. I don't think I even heard of the Five Man Electrical Band until the cover came out.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Extant1979 - Mr. Cable AccessNovember 29, 2014 at 8:33 AM

They'll just replace it with 20-minute John Cena promos. Shit, this week had a 20-minute Daniel Bryan promo.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Well, aren't you and I cut from different cloth then.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Hell no. I can't Lanny

    ReplyDelete
  88. I like it better in the dimly lit TV tapings when the ring announcer would go through who was the state athletic commissioner, the doctor in attendance, the timekeeper..

    ReplyDelete
  89. it's THE ohio state

    ReplyDelete
  90. Extant1979 - Mr. Cable AccessNovember 29, 2014 at 8:36 AM

I am always curious about the doctor and whether or not he's worthless...

    ReplyDelete
  91. They're in my top 3 favourite hip-hop groups of all time.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Back in those days, Zahorian was the doctor and he definitely had some value.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Extant1979 - Mr. Cable AccessNovember 29, 2014 at 8:38 AM

So, by my count, we're 260 songs into the 640-song tournament, with 38 days left of qualifying rounds.

For some folks here, the Greatest Song of the 90s tournament will be their longest relationship...

    ReplyDelete
  94. Extant1979 - Mr. Cable AccessNovember 29, 2014 at 8:39 AM

And every doc since has been less and less useful.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  96. Let's forget all our troubles with a big bowl of strawberry ice cream!

    ReplyDelete
  97. Oh, I am stoked. Why must I wait a year for this!

    ReplyDelete
  98. Every in-house doctor. But they go to Andrews when it's serious enough.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Extant1979 - Mr. Cable AccessNovember 29, 2014 at 8:43 AM

Does anyone actually see the value in a Kelly Kelly shoot interview? Especially one conducted by Tommy Dreamer? What could she POSSIBLY bring to the table of interest in a shoot?

"Oh, I wasn't REALLY an exhibitionist. That was just for the cameras."

    Fucking fascinating.

    ReplyDelete
  100. I was just reading that if Austin asks Vince about the Punk podcast, Vince will "give a corporate answer and move on quickly." If this happens, I hope Austin won't let it die and keeps hounding him until a real answer is given.

    ReplyDelete
  101. I was hurt by that too. Tesla was my favorite band for a long time.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Extant1979 - Mr. Cable AccessNovember 29, 2014 at 8:44 AM

I'm sure they'll agree on what they'll talk about beforehand. Austin and Vince are friends, ol' Stone Cold isn't going to blindside him.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Neither has Sheldon Cooper.

    ReplyDelete
  104. 640 songs was way too many; that's over 1 song per week. Half the songs I never even heard of or haven't listened to since the 90s. 200 songs would have been enough and instead of top 5 songs, top 2 would have been better.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Extant1979 - Mr. Cable AccessNovember 29, 2014 at 8:46 AM

They got rid of the GOOD announcer they had and kept the marblemouthed mook from Brooklyn? God, TNA...

    ReplyDelete
  106. Ha ha. ESPN is playing that song now.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Did you see that cut of Big Bang Theory when they cut out the laugh track, and it turns the show into this dark and uncomfortable piece. Where everyone is just awful and awkward to each other?

    ReplyDelete
  108. I think Ryback would have fun with it, or ignore it. But yeah, HHH... Look out... I'm actually looking forward to it myself, and I never had a problem with good ol' Haitch.

    ReplyDelete
  109. So are we voting on literally every song of the 90's?

    ReplyDelete
  110. I've heard of the car and the scientist; never heard of the band until a few years ago

    ReplyDelete
  111. It's even on Yahoo.com. So yep, it's mainstream.

  112. Extant1979 - Mr. Cable AccessNovember 29, 2014 at 8:48 AM

Most of the days in the competition, there are tons of tough choices where I wouldn't be able to narrow it down to 2. Shit, I have trouble sometimes narrowing it down to 5.

I'm fine with 640 songs - there was a lot of good shit in the 90s, maybe too much.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Extant1979 - Mr. Cable AccessNovember 29, 2014 at 8:48 AM

I think there may have been a few songs released over a decade that didn't make the list.

    ReplyDelete
  114. I like Tenay, but I also think replacing him with Matthews might be a good move, so I'm willing to keep an open mind about it. It'd also be cool if TNA did this because they want to start a youth movement in the company.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Extant1979 - Mr. Cable AccessNovember 29, 2014 at 8:50 AM

Again, my problem isn't with replacing Tenay, it's with replacing Tenay while leaving Taz on air. If you're going to make a change, take out the bigger problem, not the lesser of two evils.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Vince, HHH and the rest have the mindset that their audience are casual fans and pre-teens that don't dig deep for insider info. If the CM Punk chants start, everyone will ignore them. But I can see Big Steph going rogue on that.

    ReplyDelete
  117. I would have narrowed it down to 2-3 songs per artist. There have been some really obscure ones even from artists I like.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Wouldn't it be better to have Matthews be the play by play with Tenay on color? Taz is useless.

    ReplyDelete
  119. According to Mr. Orton, she probably screwed about a dozen or so wrestlers while she was there. So, there's that, I guess.

    ReplyDelete
  120. There are tons on the lists that I've never heard.

I kind of like that it's a huge list though. Almost everyone gets to see their own personal favourite that way, and there will probably be some surprises.

    ReplyDelete
  121. But think of Botchamania!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  122. Nice, screw their awful product

    ReplyDelete
  123. haha, nope, but that sounds good. They did the opposite with Breaking Bad, adding a laugh track to it. It's equally awesome (on youtube somewhere)

    ReplyDelete
  124. "So just how badly does steroids affect..."

    ReplyDelete
  125. Are there any current wrestlers who are well known by the general public? Most people know the rock, Brock, flair, hogan, austin, but what about people current wrestling?

    ReplyDelete
  126. Extant1979 - Mr. Cable AccessNovember 29, 2014 at 8:57 AM

The only thing I would have changed was having more than one group in a day, which I think is what they did for the TV characters tournament. We'd be almost done by now with the play-in rounds.

    ReplyDelete
  127. Extant1979 - Mr. Cable AccessNovember 29, 2014 at 9:00 AM

I've only watched it the one time, I need to see it a few more times.

    ReplyDelete
  128. Cena, Vince McMahon and Big Show are the only ones that spring to mind.

    ReplyDelete
  129. The wwe has told shareholders over and over that they need 1.3 to 1.5 million domestic network subscriptions to replace the domestic ppv market. That 76k is the domestic and international total. They are still far away on this.

    ReplyDelete
  130. Extant1979 - Mr. Cable AccessNovember 29, 2014 at 9:01 AM

Brock counts, doesn't he? He still kind of wrestles currently.

    ReplyDelete
  131. Damn CM Punk for being happy, telling the truth, and being out of fucks to give! He must die!!!

    - HHH

    ReplyDelete
  132. Something slightly related, when watching WM 30 at the theatre, the girl next to me said she had not watched wrestling in about 12 years. So the 1st match was "HHH vs That little guy". The 2nd match was Kane and the New Age Outlaws against those 3 riot gear guys. The battle royale was The Big Show eliminated by that strong bald guy.

Funny how every match at first had an "old school guy" vs a new guy.

    ReplyDelete
  133. I'd honestly rather see 20 minute Triple H promos over 20 minute Bryan promos. Hunter at least has 15 years experience of doing them.

    ReplyDelete
  134. Not great compared to what they needed to get to turn a profit. That 731k is a wide number by the way. They were under 700k domestically. The american subscription base has stayed the same basically all year long. That is very bad

    ReplyDelete
  135. Yep! No Network in Canada back then (still sucks now), so I often watch the Rumble and Mania at the theatre. It's actually a super fun atmosphere. I'm doing it again this year, assuming it's available.

    ReplyDelete
  136. Triple H has his "Randy Savage."

    ReplyDelete
  137. If they did similar shows here in the UK (never gonna happen due to time difference) I'd jump on that in a second.

    ReplyDelete
  138. I would also mention Chris Jericho because of dancing with the stars and Stacy Kiebler for same reason and dating George Clooney

    ReplyDelete
  139. Extant1979 - Mr. Cable AccessNovember 29, 2014 at 9:05 AM

I would love to go to the theater to watch the Rumble. It's the perfect show to watch in a group.

    ReplyDelete
  140. haha, are you the "anti high 5 guy"? I don't recall who that was.

    ReplyDelete
  141. I'm not excited for the new Star Wars really. I got my fill of that universe with the movies they released. Ultron>Episode 7

    ReplyDelete
  142. Fun thing was last year's Rumble, I arrived about 5 minutes before the 1 hour pre show... And I was legit the ONLY person there for about 20 minutes. Thank goodness it ended up with around 100 people. Wasn't looking good for a while!

    ReplyDelete
  144. I saw Rumble 2013 at my local Buffalo Wild Wings, That was awesome to see with a different type of group of people and to see some of the adult marks come out who thought everything was real

    ReplyDelete
  145. Cena, Triple H.

He's retired but all my female cousins had the hots for Edge.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Compared to it not hitting the million they've been expecting all year--the million they need to be profitable. Also every time they've released a new subscriber number the total of new subs since previous has been less. They lost so many subscribers over the summer that the global rollout resulted in a positive net gain of just a few thousand. The free month will likely inflate the next numbers a bit, but it's also a month where they made no profit off new subs.

As for the PPV buys still being high, while it's good news in one respect (earning money), it still shows there are fans out there willing to spend money on WWE yet can't or won't take advantage of the better deal the Network offers. You either have to believe these fans are so loyal they choose to give WWE $50 instead of $9.99; that there just rock stupid; or they simply haven't subscribed for some technological or other practical reason. Extrapolate these numbers to the overall fanbase in particular, and the population in general, and WWE really has to start wondering if the Network was a viable venture to begin with.

As much as it's going to take time to build up, and WWE needs to be patient and stay the course, well... we know Vince McMahon isn't patient, and is prone to changing things often. And with investors breathing down his neck to make the Network show a profit...

    ReplyDelete
  147. I've done the theatre thing, it's usually pretty fun.

    ReplyDelete
  148. the guy in front of me was complaining when both Diesel and JBL entered the Rumble. If I had pop corn, i would have dumped it on his head. Those 2 were awesome!

  150. Yep, watched them all for the 1st time around 2007, was shocked by how much I loved it... But I didn't watch that "Clone Wars" cartoon movie... or any of the TV series.... And I just feel "Meh" about this upcoming one. It's like, it's DONE. (note: Since I watched them all in the span of 1 month, I am 100% accepting of the 3 prequels, since I had 0 expectations or nostalgia)

Knowing WWE, they'll turn him heel and have him do the same spot to Ziggler, the guy fans love.

This is WWE, they don't ignore grudges, they hold on to them.

  158. Tenay isnt very good at doing the color. TNA really needs to copy NXT and have a veteran wrestler (who can still work) be the color guy like Regal, so they can involve him in storylines occasionally.

  159. Lanny needs to be doing something, but I think he's trying to keepa good relationship with WWE (and WWE with him, probably to induct Randy in the HOF this year).

Personally, I'd like to see Lanny do a bunch of talking heads stuff for whatever projects they can come up with.

I enjoy how both Matt Striker and Josh Matthews are still able to have a career in wrestling thanks to Lucha Underground and TNA. Both were underrated in my opinion.

  161. I'm to same. When I love something I can't get enough of it.

While I loved the Star Wars movies I've gotten my fill of them. This movie could be great but I'm just not frothing at the mouth to see it.

For the first few minutes, sure. Then it got tedious, like all long promos do.

  167. Hurting... no. But it is a company showing either zero growth or drops in a number of key stats and revenue streams: the most troubling being live event attendance. TV ratings are a dangerous measure of success because the last things fans do before going away is giving up watching the free TV show.

There was A LOT of talk about how poorly WWE treated Punk in terms of his medical needs being ignored. That could get the company in a lot of trouble.

  178. To be honest, I'm shocked that house show crowds are even as big as they are. It has been accepted even by casual fans that there is ZERO that is going to happen there, and every big match/angle is on TV instead (aka, the opposite of the 80's/early 90's.

I think the only draw really IS to see how big the Big Show is in person.
