Randy Orton's stalled return is starting to approach 'Yokozuna returning to join the Hart Foundation' territory.
ReplyDeleteGood morning America!
ReplyDeleteStill a ways to go, and I don't personally think the actual product itself has any real long term prospects, but I'm pretty impressed and surprised by TNA's ratings.
ReplyDeleteDid anyone hear JR's podcast yet? His booking idea for Reigns would be to have him turn heel and align with Heyman before Mania. Hadn't considered it, but it's a good plan, which also ensures the match doesn't get shit on with Reigns as face.
ReplyDeleteIt's as easy as this: no more football.
ReplyDeleteWait, that was a thing?
ReplyDeleteIt never was. But if you were on the interwebs around the time the Hart Foundation was formed in '97, it was a rumor that was everywhere all the time and was almost made out to be a sure thing.
ReplyDeleteRandy Orton's return is as "methodical" as his matches.
ReplyDeleteI guess you could also say the entire northern part of the country was bored and snowed in that night, so that may have also helped.
ReplyDeleteNot inconceivable, but I think you need Reigns as a babyface somehow, just because I'm just sure who he could match up with as a heel champion besides you-know-who.
ReplyDeleteThey desperately need another strong babyface to go with Cena and Bryan, and it may take a long time and a lot of character development to get there, but I think turning Reigns might be a little trigger-happy, despite all the hate he's gotten.
There hasn't been football on Monday Nights in almost a month, and RAW's ratings had been tanking horrendously before this past Monday.
ReplyDeleteIf he ain't jobbing to Bray, keep him away.
ReplyDeleteGiving Bray "the rub" by having him lose to a 50 year old man who looks 70 doesn't do anything for anyone.
The only rub needed is Ben Gay for Undertaker's old feeble bones.
The Rumble backlash (or whatever you want to call it) will have had some part in it. All publicity is good publicity, and all that.
ReplyDeleteAmbrose and Ziggler would like to say hello. They're immensely over (as much as anyone can be over in the Dead Crowd Era). Book them strong again and put them at the top of the card and they'll get there.
ReplyDeleteWhat do those amoint of viewers equate to in an actual rating?
ReplyDeletePeople were curious about what they were going to do in the absence of a live Raw.
ReplyDelete3.28,I think
ReplyDeleteOkay, sorry. No football, borerdom from the snowstorm, and possible curiosity after the Rumble.
ReplyDeleteSure. But that means they need to be booked strong. And when does that happen for them?
ReplyDeleteThe National Championship game was two weeks ago on a Monday night.
ReplyDeleteHeel Reigns vs Bryan at Summerslam would be great. Have Reigns duck Bryan at every opportunity before then and have Bryan work his way back to the top.
ReplyDeleteWell, therein lies the problem: the WWE is run by inept, brain-dead lemmings. But in a perfect world, there are people on the roster that could fill those roles if they'd let them.
ReplyDeleteVince would never, ever allow that to happen.
ReplyDeleteSee, turning him heel around the summer time would be something I'd be more interested in.
ReplyDeleteIt most certainly was reported by al issacs at scoops.
ReplyDeleteHe'll be a heel in the Mania match anyway, so why not turn him before?
ReplyDeleteIronically though, that RAW did a better rating than the week before and after, which I chalked up to a lot of people not wanting to watch it.
ReplyDeleteHey if the show is bad you could always have fun booing the fuck out of it.
ReplyDeleteOr Micasa.
ReplyDeleteif Brock's leaving they need something for him to do
ReplyDeleteIntroduce a little tension, make Heyman think he's the reason for Brock's success and that he's not getting enough credit.
ReplyDeleteThe National Championship game was the highest rated college football game ever. 33.4 million people watched it.
ReplyDeleteSporting News is incorrect.
ReplyDeleteYeah, but the journey to one of those two destinations will be long, tedious and arduous.
ReplyDeletePlus, it'll probably suck.
Reigns winning is fine;the systematic(and hugely successful) attempt to make every fan favorite look like a fucking doofus is not. There needs to be a sea change in the mentality of the people running that company before I'd even consider watching the product again.
ReplyDeleteGood job to TNA! Now they're getting HALF the TV audience they did before the move instead of 33%! YAAAAYYYY MATH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHeyman aligning with Reigns against Brock would be retreading the Brock-Big Show 2002 feud, where Heyman turned on Brock and aligned with Show. Pass.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. It's a stupid idea.
ReplyDeleteThe earliest they go back to Bryan would be Summerslam IMO. The ship has sailed. It's just a question of whether Reigns wins as a babyface or whether the reaction's so hostile they have to turn him either prior to or during the Wrestlemania match.
ReplyDeleteThe big news is if Taker doesn't work Mania, then Bryan/Wyatt pretty much becomes a lock and that will be a good match.
The only flaw in your thinking is that they're already starting to position Reigns as a Cena-clone. So it'll be more of the same if he succeeds. That's one reason why he's the chosen one and not someone like Ambrose, who has maniac charisma and can connect to the fans.
ReplyDeleteI really wish they'd treat Ambrose as the Piper to Reigns' new Hogan.
I can see the Tigers being the pick - they did win the division after all, but anything below second place is an insult to KC
ReplyDeleteGood point, but the real problem is the way they've gone about it. Like you say he'll either prove us all wrong or bomb massively and either way it's all good, but the blatant middle finger to everyone watching the Rumble goes deeper than just pushing the wrong guy. They lent no drama to the match, eliminating all our favourites (Bryan, Ziggler, Wyatt, Ambrose) with no fanfare by Big Show & Kane of all people. Then the Rusev tease at the end as one last FU to everyone.
ReplyDeleteThey can push who they want at the end of the day, but why be such dicks about it?
Damn. Too late on the joke. Well done.
ReplyDeleteHeyman aligning with Reigns (without them introducing the possibility of Brock leaving right after WrestleMania into the storyline) makes absolutely no sense. Heyman has spent over a year telling everyone how he has this once in a lifetime athlete, a beast who cannot be conquered, etc. And he's gonna dump him for some unproven kid who's never accomplished anywhere near as much as Brock?
ReplyDeleteOnly concern? Reigns ends up like Cesaro.
ReplyDeleteLOL THE CUBS?!
ReplyDeleteFor what it's worth they have the Yankees at 4th place too. They pick the wild card as White Sox vs Angels with the Sox winning
ReplyDeleteI have no issue with Heyman eventually siding with Reigns - you can take the angle that Heyman wants align with the guy who toppled the indestructible Lesnar. Pre-Mania just isn't the right time though. Totally could see that happening over the summer.
ReplyDeleteBttF2 will have everyone picking the Cubs.
ReplyDeleteI think you just have to let it play out.
ReplyDeleteSufferin' succotash, you better belee dat.
ReplyDeleteTBF, #s after a PPV/Network special are usually pretty high among the casuals who want to see the fallout. Add to the fact that curiosity perked as to what RAW would run for a snowstorm, and there's your explanation.
ReplyDeleteRaw up! Impact up! Is another boom period on the way?!?!
ReplyDeleteThat's why I said they'd have to introduce Brock leaving into the storyline. Otherwise, Heyman would look like an idiot to abandon Brock for Reigns.
ReplyDeleteCena can work though and already was getting massively over as a face for a year and a half before he won the title. Reigns has worked one singles match and BOOM, TITLE TOWN USA
ReplyDeleteMagic beans.
ReplyDeleteTHE ROMAN EMPIRE HAS CONQUERED THE WWE UNIVERSE MAGGLE
ReplyDeleteHow about this, the title match goes on mid show, and Brock wins.
ReplyDeleteThat's the exact same angle they took with Punk vs Heyman. Didn't work.
ReplyDeleteI think the rating drew a huge number because people really wanted to see how they dealt with the crazy reaction to Reigns
ReplyDeleteMy dad asked me about the Rumble, so I guess some of the boost is due to the mainstream media/Twitter coverage. Throw in replaying PPV matches (including the popular Rumble match), no football, and it being the road to Wrestlemania, the numbers should have gone up. Still a good number. If the numbers had been the same with Bryan winning, wouldn't you then be genuinely saying Bryan = Ratings as opposed to (most) saying Reigns = Ratings sarcastically?
ReplyDeletedon't know if he ever served any time, but there were/are bank fraud charges against him
ReplyDeleteIf I had my way, it goes on mid-show, Reigns wins, but is in bad shape, and Rollins cashes in and wins. Then you have Reigns vs Rollins to ride out for the next 2-3 months.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure getting free PPV matches helped.
ReplyDeleteSomeday I wanna see the arrogant heel who's screaming "this is my year!" (like Bray this year, or Punk in 2010) win the Rumble from a really early number. HBK and Benoit won from #1, but were plucky underdogs, Flair won from #3, but he was hanging on by a nail throughout.. I want someone to toss bodies throughout, brag about it, and win the rumble.
ReplyDeleteIt's funny cuz he's old!
ReplyDeleteI don't know that I'd call a 3.2 an incredible number for Raw when they were in the mid 3s not that long ago. I'm very curious to see if they can sustain this number or if the high 2s is the new normal. I hope it stays up because more interest in the WWE means more interest for everyone.
ReplyDeleteSwiss?
ReplyDeletewat
ReplyDeleteTeamwork and good communication out there is key today.
ReplyDeleteBald.
ReplyDeleteProbably not a good sign that many people were interested in seeing how big of a train wreck your product is.
ReplyDeleteI have no desire to see Taker wrestle again. However, they should make his retirement a HUGE fucking deal. I get that the Brock loss was kind of spur of the moment, but Taker's first Mania loss felt like it should have been a major production, both immediately afterward and the next night on Raw. Instead, it was just kind of there. I know they weren't sure if he was going to wrestle again and didn't want to make it out like the End, but it was not at all the "old gunslinger's last stand" that people try to ret-con it into now. It just wasn't.
