Much like Raw, delayed because of the snow storm, or something. Nothing major this week, so we'll deem this a Dragon Gate installment of 4MOTW.
DG: Dr. Muscle vs. Eita - [1/12/15]
The vacant "Open the Brave Gate" title is on the line here in the finals of a tournament to crown a new champ, as Flamita (kayfabe) walked away from the title in December. Here in the finals we have Eita, multi-time former tag champs with T-Hawk. He goes up against the mysterious Dr. Muscle, a man with ties to the Mad Blankey clan (more on that, next...)

DG: Millenials (T-Hawk, Eita, U-T & Yosuke Santa Maria) vs. Mad Blankey (YAMATO, CIMA, Gamma, Cyber Kong & K-ness) - [1/16/15]
A sweet piece of business here, and one of the big building blocks of where the company goes from here. We have the Millenials, whose Mexican-based flavor and pride of being born 1990's has led them to multiple titles over the course of the last few years. However, with Flamita's departure they are running thin here having to go up 4 against 5 with the newly revamped Mad Blankey, who recently added some new members in Kzy, Don Fujii, CIMA & Gamma. However it's what happens after the match that may even the sides up a bit.
T-Hawk, Eita, U-T, Yosuke ♥ Santa Maria vs... by JAHMAL1111

ALSO: Ricochet vs. Low Ki
This one surfaced on You Tube this week. Ricochet, the first ever American to become Dragon Gate World Champion ("Open the Dream Gate") takes on the one and only Low Ki. The camera work sort killed this one for me, but hey it's a rarity of a match-up between two of the modern greats.

Nattie has definitely munched some carpet in her life. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if her and Tyson did some threesomes (that lucky bastard).
ReplyDeleteWhen will it be my time to marry a lesbo leaning chick?
When will it be my time indeed.
For the record, I've always loved this format and wouldn't change a thing. But maybe I'll love the new format more, who knows? Either way, great job as usual you two. :)
ReplyDeleteI would have put Reigns (without winning the rumble) against Cena in a face vs face showdown at WM in the sub main event (with Lesnar vs Bryan for the title being the main event). Reigns would have almost certainly be cheered agains Cena, and could win without the audience getting angry.
ReplyDeleteI massively disagree, but respect your opinion of course. Out of interest, did you never feel that 2 World titles lessened the importance of each belt? I've never liked the 2 World Champions in one company thing.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree. I only started watching NXT six weeks ago after recommendations from people here, and that show gets everyone over and progresses multiple feuds with one hour. It's like chalk and cheese. You'd never believe it was the same company.
ReplyDeleteWell given how Mr. Perfect came back in 2002 and was still a better worker than most of the roster, I'd say guys like that could get over in any decade.
ReplyDeleteI'd rather there not be 7 hours of programming each week. Who the hell watches all 7 hours except for some basement trolls in their momma's basement who don't work?
ReplyDeleteI really hope it's not the splitting of the World title again. I'm not a fan of that. One World title makes it all the more special. The pinnacle. The triple threat on Sunday was more special because it is for THE big title, not following on after another 'World' title match. Plus, it would be a cop out, an easy way out of the Bryan/Reigns situation which avoids the actual problem.
ReplyDeleteSplitting the brands? Not a big fan of that either. Unless it's a hard split (like the mooted WCW/WWF split in 2001) it's a bit pointless. Just give people programs and feuds spread across the 7 hours (!) of programming each week. NXT manage this with ONE HOUR. People don't need to be on every show.
Just my opinion
I would make it a hard split, though, for definite.
ReplyDeleteRaw gets the WWE, Intercontinental,Tag and Divas belts, Smackdown gets the Heavyweight, the US and the re-introduced cruiserweight title, and we go back to the old situation where the crazy storylines and "crash tv" sort of stuff is on Raw, but Smackdown becomes the de facto "technical/high-flying wrestling" show.
It also means people being promoted from NXT can be put into the show that suits them best initially - Corbin, for example, being a big bruiser who will no-doubt be a squash machine can head onto Raw, while someone like Neville goes straight to the faster-paced Smackdown.
Could work, as long as they keep the hard split hard. By all means have a yearly draft, but make that a network-exclusive, perhaps the night after WM, as the RAW pre-show or something.
As much as it's uninspiring, a short feud between Kane and Bryan was logical and pays off an angle from nine months ago. Bryan went over definitively and now he can move on (to something that doesn't seem to have been thought of yet).
ReplyDeleteThanks for giving me the option. I think I'll go with young green panther, although I was tempted to try out young woman and see what that was like.
ReplyDeleteI think it's something I'll never truly be sold on. I like the World Champion to be the main man, and you're lucky to have one true candidate to carry the company in that way.
Respecting someone else's opinion? You're not going to get far on teh interwebz with that attitude, young man/woman/green panther!
ReplyDeleteI think it depends on how they're positioned. If you do the brand split properly, you have them each as the champion of their own brand, and make it feel important on the respective show.
Then I would add some spice to it - once a year (at Bragging Rights, say) you have a Champion v Champion match - and make a BIG DEAL of it. Non-title, but with a stipulation along the lines of, for example, loser has to defend their own title in the next PPV in a fatal fourway, or winner gets to pick the stipulation of their own next title defence, or something. Try and add a sense of importance to champ v champ matches, rather than throwing them away to fill five minutes of air time with a DQ finish...
Yeah I'd like to think the casket was symbolic of "closing the lid" on this feud. Now Bryan can sit back and wait to be factored into the main event at Mania
ReplyDeleteMatt, you missed the obvious followup of Big Show turning heel and punching Brie.
ReplyDelete"... then turns face to cry about it, then turns heel again and says he doesn't care about the fans or Brie, then turns face and said he had no choice, then..."
Second this.
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty interested in seeing where they're going with this whole "Rumble being controversial" thing. The whole "the fans think Bryan and Ziggler should have won" is a massive break of kayfabe unless it's leading somewhere.
ReplyDeleteIt is odd, especially since 'controversial' is clearly a euphemism for shitty booking. They can rearrange the card, but in no way should they crowbar Bryan into a Reigns/Lesnar title match.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I didn't watch last night, but from what I'm understanding, they're kind of breaking the fourth wall with all this "controversial" stuff. Considering Bryan, Ziggler, Ambrose and Mizdow all got tossed kayfabe legit, he can only be talking in terms of fan reaction to the final four and the eventual winner, both situations being created by WWE management, in which case they're saying "what you are watching is pre-determined."
ReplyDeleteI may have explained the obvious there.
I forgot to watch or DVR this ..The review didn't seem to mention it some I'm curious what was the Reigns crowd reaction?
ReplyDeleteI've heard reports of 75% boos, 25% cheers. Some "Let's go Roman, Roman sucks". So basically, this week he was John Cena....and we all know how much Vince has no problem with that.
ReplyDeleteReigns wins because Kane interferes setting up a Kane Bryan 3 stages of hell Mania match. Inferno, Ambulance, Buried alive.
ReplyDeleteinteresting...I'm wondering if it will get worse the further from Stamford they get.
ReplyDeleteThis show was a giant pile of shit. And if they stick Kane with Reigns after this then they really don't have a fucking clue.
ReplyDeleteI didn't see it but based on the reviews it is frightening to consider that is what they came up with with 3 extra days to plan and only having to fill 2 hours instead of 5 for the week.
ReplyDeleteYou really shouldn't change your format due to what Danimal says. One nutter a readership does not make.
ReplyDeleteWe'll see. I think the big markets will hop on the Philly train. It's those shitty small town hick markets that will be all "70% kids going with their parents" demo that could cheer for him regularly.
ReplyDeleteThanks for giving Vince hope, Lafayette, Louisiana.
It's weird. In isolation the Rumble told quite a good story at times. It was just the wrong people in the wrong roles at the wrong time. So this is very much a break of kayfabe.
ReplyDeleteThey really need like a "character continuity" chart or some shit.
ReplyDelete9am. I am still in traffic
ReplyDeleteYeah, it's one thing to say it caused a lot of talk, or something like that, but you can't take it that step further into admitting that people felt it should have been done differently. Still, they're making things interesting when they were looking like they'd be pretty boring going into Mania with that main event.
ReplyDeleteI don't know why --- maybe it's the Mark Brunell avatar, or the thought that this may be your first post of the day -- but I laughed at "This show was a giant pile of shit."
ReplyDeleteWell, the other option (and it's one I've suggested in the past) is to make the brand split like a "leagues" system:
ReplyDeleteNXT is Division 3 - you do well there, you advance to:
Smackdown, which is Division 2 and the IC title is exclusive to it and the top belt in the brand. Perform well on Smackdown and eventually you move to:
Raw - the top weekly show, where the World Title is.
You could use Main Event as a cross-brand "tryouts" show - give NXT guys near the step-up a chance to hang with Smackdown guys, and have Smackdown guys interact with Raw guys.
Could be interesting?
I read some utter bilge in one of the other threads I was breezing through from last night about how people weren’t even booing Reigns because they disliked him, it was just because it was the new cool thing. It’s so dumb. Anyone who goes into that "anti-smark" talk like that makes my enemies list. I would never boo somebody or something unless I really disliked them.
ReplyDeleteBut I think the boos will die down though even if he fails to win that many people over, because he’s just not as teeth-grindingly obnoxious as Cena is, and as poor as his push is right now, he’s not actually that hateable a character.
The whole thing is very odd - if you go by the booking, the Rumble wasn't controversial at all, the fans just hated it. Instead of fixing the booking, they're just breaking the fourth wall and saying "sorry you hated our booking." I don't know if this is a good idea.
ReplyDeleteYES! YES! YES! <- Reserved for only Daniel Bryan and DON F'N HENLEY!
ReplyDeleteThey just need to stop giving him corny lines, let him be more himself, and he'll be just fine. Let him beat people up, maybe give him an Achilles Heel so that he seems more like a real person....I don't know. Just stop giving him looney tunes lines and making him seem douchey.
ReplyDelete[insert Iron Clad contract]
ReplyDeleteI need the daily update, Bayless. I have to be able to pretend I'm working today.
ReplyDeleteI haven't managed to see Raw yet, but apparently he was more serious there. But then I just recall the odd great serious promo Cena would do, and how the next week he'd be totally different. If Reigns shows up on Raw next week showing photoshopped pictures of Lesnar in a diaper on the Titantron or some shit, I'll be pissed. But not surprised.
ReplyDeleteAlso I assume the announcement will be that Don Henley will be at Fast Lane to preform Life in the Fast Lane.
ReplyDeleteI don't think the roster is all that thin at all, tbh. It's just that they don't utilise the entire roster properly - there are guys on there you'd be lucky to remember even exist until they randomly pop up once in a blue moon (Darren Young for example).
ReplyDeletePlus, they have a wealth of talent in waiting at NXT ready to step up to the next level, but they can't all be The Shield, so I honestly think the brand split would (if done right) be beneficial to those guys too, as NXT has a very deep roster for a 1-hour-per-week show, but a lot of good workers will be lost when they take the step up to Raw/Smackdown as it currently stands.
Stop posting comments while driving you damn menace to society.
ReplyDeleteAnybody advocating a brand split and a separation of the title isn't thinking clearly.
ReplyDeleteThe roster is thin as shit, and the idea of one world title makes it all the more prestigious. I hope they do neither of these things.
Exactly. Although I don't think Bryan should be in the main event, they've made their bed, etc.
ReplyDeleteEven better.....in a squash!!
ReplyDeleteListen to that crowd!
If you can post a comment in traffic you can darn well post a daily update in traffic!
ReplyDeleteWATCH OUT FOR THAT SQUIRREL!
ReplyDeleteI haven't moved in 6 minutes. Accident up ahead.
ReplyDeleteI detest that theory too. Not going to call out the person that said it but it's stupid. They ain't booing Reigns because it's cool they're booing him because they want Bryan not him right now.
ReplyDeleteStuck in the same place for 6 minutes? Ooofa. Add that to the reasons mornings suck list.
ReplyDeleteSounds like he needs to move to the...Fast Lane!
ReplyDeleteThat's talent, damn it!
ReplyDeleteWhen you put your wellfare and the wellfare of every person around you on the line to bring a group of wrestling nerds the news on their fake sport.....well, that would bring tears to even Bret Hart's eyes.
Almost goes without saying, but the crowd reaction after Bryan won was huge. Really nice sweeping shot of the crowd YESing too.
ReplyDeleteWith a tear in his eye, Bret told me that I write the greatest fake wrestling federation with a guy who loves ice cream that he has ever seen.
ReplyDeleteI can't remember who said it, it'll probably be said by loads of people as times goes on.
ReplyDeleteWith that avatar he really needs to say "When HHH said it would shake the WWE to its core......I ...just didn't believe him :holding back tears:
ReplyDeleteFuck traffic! The BoD comes first sir!
ReplyDeleteThreadjack outta nowhere!
ReplyDeleteSo, I'm sure Bayless will bring this up in his new thread, but Impact is now available online for Canadians.
http://www.impactwrestling.com/videos/canada
It brings many tears to Ric Flair's eyes but that isn't much of an accomplishment..
ReplyDelete:/
ReplyDeleteWILL YOU STOP?!!?!!
Hey, don't give Hoss all the love. What about STRIKE FORCE 2.0? When will we get what's due to us?!
ReplyDeleteThis Lebaron don't pay for itself, Bayless.
He told me that Zenk & Martel could not hold a candle to you two and never even appreciated their windbreakers
ReplyDeleteHis music got a woman shriek before being drowned out by boos, much of the match was mainly boos(75/25 seems fair)but there was a fair seized Roman Chant at one point at his win got a pop too.
ReplyDeleteWatch Here===>>> http://www.mmaweekly.com/
ReplyDeleteCan-Am were half pussified! Martel needed a damn Mexican, and he knew it!
ReplyDeleteSitting in the waiting room quietly shitting myself. I'm hoping I get called back soonish.
ReplyDeleteWait.
ReplyDeleteWhat?
Oh right! I'm totally awake for this. Good luck and Godspeed brother.
ReplyDeleteWhat's wrong?
ReplyDeleteThanks. I'm sure it'll go fine just nerves
ReplyDeleteTo be fair, no one likes Big Show. You gotta cheer for someone, I'd wager.
ReplyDeleteTelling him he got free valet parking brings tears to Ric Flair's eyes.
ReplyDeleteThat's true. Ol' Blue Pants has got more fans than Big Show.
ReplyDeleteBut...from what I hear, he's to be seen live, and his hands are as big as frying pans.
ReplyDeleteAllegedly.
Oral surgery, I messed up my mouth years ago in a car accident and this is the first of two surgerys to fix it.
ReplyDeleteGood luck dude.
ReplyDeleteThanks. Let's just hope I don't get a massive boner while I'm knocked out.
ReplyDeleteThat's what I'm doing, this, reddit, goat simulator. Should be called back to just start getting ready. Doctors not here yet though.
ReplyDeleteNo bullshit --- I saw Andre live in 1988.
ReplyDeleteJAYZUS.
It probably helped that I was nearly 8 years old, so I was small, but...
JAYZUS.
I don't know, that sounds like a pretty good story to me.
ReplyDeleteI think I'll hope for the boner.
Ha! Implying you could achieve a massive boner in the first place.
ReplyDeleteTake my blind completely not based in fact insult!
Cena's frat boy outfit is pretty funny
ReplyDelete"I think I'll hope for the boner"....
ReplyDelete.....funny enough, not the first time I've said that.
Ask your mom!
OHHHHH!!
I'm bored.
"After the penis enlargement we just decided to add 4 inches to your height as well and add muscles in all the places there used to not be any"
ReplyDelete-is something Id like my doctor to do for me.
Ouch. I hope everything goes smoothly. And don't you worry because around 4pm you can read an electrifying review of the 3/7/87 WWF Boston Garden Show including a showstopping 11 minute long match between SD Jones and the Outlaw, Ron Bass!!!!!
ReplyDelete9 AM Bayless. Time to pay the piper.
ReplyDeleteBoD Traffic Update:
ReplyDeleteI have parked my car and am heading into work so I can write up the BoD Daily Update.
Credit Brian Bayless
I wish *I* was Captain America. :(
ReplyDeleteThat's basically what I deacribed isn't it? Yes I would like to be Captain America.
ReplyDeleteHurrah!
ReplyDeleteIt's about Time(and the Rani)!!!
ReplyDeleteLast time I'm using that joke. I swear it.
Not enough was made in the movie of what was no doubt an incredible new penis for that man.
ReplyDeleteJust like the Mountie is HandsomeBraveandStrong, I can be TimeandtheRani!
ReplyDeleteFans of magic should DEFINITELY have stuck around for the show that guy was plugging, Wizard Wars, which followed SD.
ReplyDeleteGood luck dude! Hope your underwear's not on backwards when you wake up.
ReplyDeleteI understand the nerves. I got nervous just waiting for the cable guy to show up today. You'll do fine. Just occupy yourself with some BOD so you aren't left with your thoughts to drive yourself crazy waiting.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure how big that'll be. Cena was at least over and cultivated his fan base for a few years before the anti-Cena movement blew up so he had an established fan base to counteract his detractors.
ReplyDeleteHow many die hard fans has Roman cultivated? And how many of those are also die hard Bryan fans?
BoD Daily Traffic Update
ReplyDeleteYep, Natalya is totally the butt monkey of this show.
ReplyDelete*I'm* TimeandtheRani!
ReplyDeleteIts up!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWe're nearing the point where the WWE will start conducting multiple marketing surveys throughout each show, sending some empty suit out to hold up an entire segment and ask everyone to go online and score the New Day match that just happened from 1-10, along with supplemental questions about their ring gear and music. Also, would you like more promos tonight?
ReplyDeleteFlair saw Charlotte write down her name and he was reduced to tears of pride.
ReplyDeleteThis happened last week.
I'm cool with it. All about getting the brand out there.
ReplyDeleteHey some people pay good money for a service like that!
ReplyDeleteHow can you be both!
ReplyDeleteIt's a combination of the two.
ReplyDeleteThe boos are gonna cause a backlash pro-Reigns crowd as well. The days of silent Reigns matches are over, I'd say.
ReplyDeleteIt’d be pretty cool if you woke up and the doctors were all “While you were out we got bored and just figured we’d give you a penis enlargement operation as well”. It’d be such a great surprise.
ReplyDeleteWho is the Rani and who is Time? I'm confused
ReplyDeleteI've seen the bastard live and I gotta say he looked a lot bigger on top of the beanstalk.
ReplyDeleteYes you say it despondently every night whilst staring at your crotch!
ReplyDeleteOHHHHH!
Even more bored.
Mind blown!
ReplyDeleteAnd what's the reason? HHH mentioned some controversy. We know what the controversy is in the real world, but what is the controversy in kayfabe terms?
ReplyDeleteI was there last night and it was lots of fun. The building was full and that was impressive.
ReplyDeleteLuke Harper and Dolph Ziggler put on an amazing match on Main Event. Well worth seeking out. I loved the "Wash Your Shirt" chant for Harper.
Always sit in front of a heavyset woman of color at live events. It never disappoints. Upon seeing Roman on the tron-- "That's Roman Reigns?? Oooh girl, he cute. Heeeyyyy Roman!" She also called Luke Harper "Dirty Jesus" during his match.
The reaction to Reigns was weird. So mixed. It was kinda like "we're supposed to boo this guy because it's cool, but we're not sure exactly why so we'll half-hearted boo him".
Meanwhile Daniel Bryan is getting the Hogan/Austin god-like reactions to every move he makes, yet WWE is not making him their top guy. WHY? Why can't they simply go with what's working?
I say next to A heavyset woman of color at Smackdown once. She liked Edge and yelled "don't be doin that to my man" like 30 times.
ReplyDeleteInteresting. If the crowd supported him in the match, all is not lost.
ReplyDeleteI thought you were literally shitting yourself.
ReplyDeleteSee? Screw Cole and Lawler. That's the kind of commentary I need with my sports entertainment.
ReplyDeleteStarting to think you don't know your days of the week.
ReplyDeleteYeah, and it's not like Lesnar has a slower rate of meaningful title matches than Hogan did. I don't think there's a need for the world title to be threatened on a weekly basis.
ReplyDeleteI would pay extra for that as a commentary option on the Network. "Who dis fool?" on wrestler debuts and "Ain't nobody got time for that!" during long-winded HHH promos.
ReplyDeleteI am thankful I don't watch this because my head is spinning between kayfaybe wrestling and kayfaybe reality and reality and Russo reality and even Immanuel Kant would be confused at this show.
ReplyDeleteI say keep it. There's nothing wrong with it. For God's sake, you're reviewing Total Divas! Do whatever you want, you poor bastard!
ReplyDeleteThe majority seem to really like it. We might end up keeping it. The new format we kicked around kinda sounded like an uneven mish-mash.
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting the Low Ki v Ricochet match!
ReplyDeleteMan, I was really good friends w a justin stark thru school. Guessing its not your real name but if it is you in SD?
ReplyDeleteI agree. Love the current format. Matt's comments need to be in the context of her recap and it matches my thoughts at the same times.
ReplyDeleteYup, it ain't broke, don't fix it
ReplyDelete^^^the smart mark is trying too hard to sound 'smart'
ReplyDeleteIt actually is, but nope, not from the SD area.
ReplyDeleteFrankly Miz's title run was entertaining as hell. He had nuclear heat with it as well I actually think they could have run with him as champ for a lot longer instead of jobbing to Cena one month after Mania. It was Honky Tonk levels of trolling for 5 plus months and I loved it including Alex Riley and Cole jumping on the bandwagon.
ReplyDelete
