You know guys, I have a day job and stuff...

  1. Day job?. Crap i keep waiting for ya to pick up on the Raw and Nitro recaps from 96

  2. Scott mentioned this awesome match in the mailbag. Aztec Royal Rumble from Lucha: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2e9avf_2015-01-07-aztec-warfare-lucha-underground_sport

  3. "You know guys, I have a day job and stuff..."

We have those, too, and this is how we choose to spend them. So get crackin' and stop whining, or else some of us are going to have to do actual work out of sheer boredom.

    ReplyDelete
  4. LOL @ the "IF HE'S NOT GOING TO WIN THE RUMBLE THEN JUST RELEASE HIM" guy.

    ReplyDelete
  5. The obvious solution is to team Bryan with Cesaro and Tyson Kidd. Duh.

    ReplyDelete
  6. In regards to the last question, they will not release Bryan because he still makes the company loads of money AND because Vince does not want to see him go and make that money for someone else. Let's not forget that while Bryan is not considered THE star, he is A star which is something WWE has very few of right now.

At this point if Daniel Bryan got released and Bryan Danielson returned to Ring of Honor it would be a major gamechanger. I'm not saying that Ring of Honor would automatically be at WWE's level, but it would be significant.

If Vince has been too afraid to release Zack fucking Ryder despite doing nothing with him and having at least 3 rounds of layoffs where he could've been axed, he ain't losing Bryan.

  7. Theberzerker Von HUSSingtonJanuary 27, 2015 at 11:11 AM

We're not ever gonna get Brock/Bryan because to Vince it's not believable. His 3rd grade education deluded carny mind can't conceive of a little guy like Bryan beating a monster like Brock. I think it's that simple.

    ReplyDelete
  8. But Bryan tapping out Batista was believable? Batista is technically bigger than Lesnar.

  9. The Love-Matic Grampa!January 27, 2015 at 11:15 AM

Bryan laying out the perfect Wrestlemania scenario and then having to go "but hey, Roman's cool, too!" just made me sad.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I would love to see Bryan get a bit of an edge and straight up challenge Roman for his spot in the title match.

    ReplyDelete
  11. The Love-Matic Grampa!January 27, 2015 at 11:24 AM

I've never been a big fan of the Rumble in general, but that match Sunday was so poorly planned and executed. Dead spots galore, Bryan going out way too soon, surprise spots being wasted on 90-year old DDP and Boogeyman, no comedy spots to liven up the crowd aside from a brief bit with Mizdow, and that awful ending with Kane and Show lumbering around and tossing the future talent around like garbage in pursuit of another meaningless milestone. Even if Roman wasn't a bust, I don't think people would have been all that enthused about this match anyhow.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Is he saying this site is the "Marty Jannetty" to his day job?

    ReplyDelete
  13. This one doesn't hold water. Plenty of little guys have beaten monsters under his watch. Including Daniel Bryan.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Yeah, forgetting whether or not the winner was a good choice, the actual match sucked and had no heat or flow to it at all. Bored the hell out of me

    ReplyDelete
  15. Nobody I knew liked them

    ReplyDelete
  16. The match was a chore to watch before we even got to that point, but Kane/Show dumping out all the crowd favorites would have been a good heat spot to pay off if we gave a shit about Reigns, or if it was Bryan dumping them to win.

    ReplyDelete
  17. The Love-Matic Grampa!January 27, 2015 at 11:34 AM

Even Reigns hulking up and decisively dispatching the monsters would have been fine. But we didn't even get that.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Eh, I think it was pretty dead by that point. Nothing Reigns was doing was saving the match.
Can't remember if I read someone say it here or if it was a conversation I was having with my smark coworker, but if Reigns was going to win it should've been dumping Bryan at the end. Even if you weren't planning on immediately turning him heel. It would have, at the very least, kept the match from being such an absolute disaster if they had Bryan for which to lose their collective minds the whole match, even if they didn't like the end.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Release him? Why not just book him properly and make a ton of money off of the millions of fans chanting his fucking name and doing his yes! thing.

Oh wait, that makes sense. This company isn't about doing what makes sense.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Dynamite's shelf life was going to be limited no matter what. The broken back or similar injury was a matter of "when," not "if."

    ReplyDelete
  21. The Love-Matic Grampa!January 27, 2015 at 11:42 AM

Oh, it wouldn't have saved the match, but if Roman is the great Samoan Hope who is supposed to stop Lesnar, dispatching two of the biggest monsters in the company is a step in the right direction booking-wise. This Reigns "push" is just bizarre to me, because he should be mowing through everyone in featured main event bouts and saying as little as possible. Instead, he's cutting silly promos and getting countout wins over Big Show on the undercard.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Meanwhile Jarrod Grimm wasn't a pimple on Jason's ass.

  23. ROCK YOU LIKE A HURRICANEJanuary 27, 2015 at 11:43 AM

I love that this is spreading.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Akeem's the same way. He had already peaked for his career, being a top guy for Watts and being a mini-sensation in the early to mid '80s.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Which is saying something because you know everybody.

    ReplyDelete
  26. When you're the champion of your neighborhood like I was, you know everybody

    ReplyDelete
  27. Batista tossing out Cena in 2005 didn't hurt either, I don't know why they felt they had to go mega heels vs face in the one match when it's not needed

    ReplyDelete
  28. Scott is really channeling his inner Hogan. WHEN THEYRE IN THE BUILDING, THEIR MONEY IS ALREADY IN YOUR FRONT POCKET, BROTHER

    ReplyDelete
  29. In regards to that last letter, only a total mark would think that WWE has only two options with Bryan: push him to the moon or release him.

While it's great to be WWE champion, I am sure Bryan is content with the millions he already makes from merchandise sales alone. Considering the guy used to wrestler for Subway Veggie Delight sandwiches in PWG, being the 2nd or 3rd top guy in WWE is fine by him. Could he be making more if he was the top face? Sure, but he ain't going to turn down what WWE offers him because he wants a fake wrestling championship.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I agree, but from the Benoit perspective...Bryan Danielson is one of the single best workers in the world, and while he won't sell merch like a #1 babyface centerpiece, he is a good enough worker that he will always deserve to be in the discussion.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Bryan has probably sold more tickets and sold more merchandise than Benoit ever did. Benoit was a popular guy but he NEVER connected with audiences on the same level as Bryan. Not even close.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Ding ding. If you can tap out Dave, you can be booked vs. Lesnar.

    ReplyDelete
  33. DDP as a surprise was awesome. The Boogeyman...not so much, especially since I had him in my RR pool

    ReplyDelete
  34. UPDATE: WWE stock is up 12% this afternoon.

    ReplyDelete
  35. The match itself has been somewhat lame since Pat Patterson stopped booking them. It used to be an intricate match, with many ebbs and flows...now, it's just a mess.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Do we know when he stopped booking the RR? Because the 2010 RR is awesome and I thought 2013 was a lot of fun.

Don't forget, he was also around for the bad Rumbles in the mid 90s.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Bryan's not leaving anytime soon, but I could entertain the thought of people screaming "YES!" in sync with Europe's "The Final Countdown".

    ReplyDelete
  38. Hey, McNeal, I never asked....how was Sunday?

    ReplyDelete
  39. It sucked. Except for the triple threat and pissing off Miz and Cameron at a gas station after the show

    ReplyDelete
  40. And God, can we just settle this already: Bryan winning the belt was never the plan last year!

    ReplyDelete
  41. That makes it a slam dunk, then!
Bryan is just as good technically as Benoit, but you're right...he's over too.

    I was just making parallels.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Haha, Miz wants him some Funkadactyl Love, it sounds like.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Eddie Guerrero pinned Brock in the middle of the ring on the ppv before WMXX

    ReplyDelete
  44. anyone making anyone else tap out is believable as long as the submission hold is convincing

    ReplyDelete
  45. that would be so freaking cool

    ReplyDelete
  46. I asked him to be nicer to Mizdow. He said no

    ReplyDelete
  47. I hope that most of us are not limiting the issue to Bryan or Reigns. The biggest problem is that they booked the Rumble to not only make every fan favorite look like a jobbing geek just so GODDAMN BIG SHOW AND KANE could make the Final Four, but their hand picked chosen one also looked like a geek, laying around for a half hour selling a bloody lip like he got thrown off a cage. The booking was WWE intentionally going out of the way to say "All those guys you paid to see put on a show? FUCK YOU THEYRE ALL GETTING FIVE MINUTES OF NOTHING"

    ReplyDelete
  48. Haha, I love that you talked to him like a mark.

    "Be nice to Damien, Miz!!!!"

    ReplyDelete
  49. After Bad News Barrettin him, singing Somebody Call My Mama to Cameron, calling Cameron Naomi, what else was there to do.

I was legit disappointed Mizdow didn't pull up behind Miz

    ReplyDelete
  50. In the mailbag, Scott said they should hire whoever's booking Lucha Underground...I'm pretty sure it's Konan. I could be wrong, but I believe I read that somewhere and it seems very reminiscent of his AAA days.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Recon Sniper something something

    ReplyDelete
  52. Vern Gagne & Mad Dog Vachon
Nick Bockwinkel & Ray "The Crippler" Stevens
Jesse "The Body" Ventura & Adrian "Golden Boy" Adonis

(Heavens to the Flying Spaghetti Monster, I'm old...)

    ReplyDelete
  53. Reigns winning wasn't the main problem. It was how badly everyone was booked as stated in the first email. Big Show and Kane all dumped everyone who has a future with the company like losers. They had a perfect chance to reform the Wyatts after realizing it was a bad move to break them up and Reigns needed to look like a world beater on a level of Goldberg if they were gonna book him as a threat to Brock. They did none of these things and as a result we have the weakest Mania build ever thus far.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Also, back then we weren't really looking for it as much. Like not every team broke up and had a feud and one wrestler was elevated.

No one was going... I wonder which of the Killer Bees or Bushwackers is going to be the next big thing.

    ReplyDelete
  55. The Big Show/Kane thing really did seem like a direct message, didn't it? Who were the guys that they nonchalantly picked up and dropped out of the ring in an anticlimactic manner? Dolph Ziggler and Dean Ambrose -- two guys that the fans have truly gotten behind and the fans feel are not being treated properly -- and Bray Wyatt -- while a heel, still somebody the fans seem to want to get behind. All so Roman Reigns -- their chosen one -- could single handedly eliminate them. And this wasn't like 2004, where Big Show was established throughout the match as being impossible to eliminate before Chris Benoit used his brain and grut to eliminate him by himself. This was a little story they began putting together after every single person had entered the ring.
The whole match truly was uninspired. Take Kofi Kingston. He went from being this guy who was so unorthodox and uniquely talented that he was near impossible to eliminate. Now what does he do? He comes in, does a whacky stunt, and is abruptly eliminated. And as others noted, there were so many opportunities to do something more. Why not make an ACTUAL story out of Ziggler going the distance? And how did they miss out on the opportunity to do something more with Miz and Mizdow? There was no ongoing story throughout the Rumble.

  56. Adam "Colorado" CurryJanuary 27, 2015 at 2:24 PM

Yeah, they've been awful at the surprise entrant thing lately. And the entire match in general.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Adam "Colorado" CurryJanuary 27, 2015 at 2:27 PM

I don't think jobbing to Reigns and Fast Lane is going to do anyone any good. Which means it will probably happen.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I agree with your second paragraph, but what you said in it really doesn't have anything to do with the first. You mention the options WWE would have, and then you tell us (correctly, I'd say) why Bryan wouldn't make that decision. Two different things.
From the WWE's perspective, if for whatever reason they've decided that Daniel Bryan is just not ever in their plans to be on top again and they feel that whatever merchandise money he's making for them would be worth sacrificing to not distract from their chosen top acts...I wouldn't agree with it, but I could be talked into understanding why they'd take that financial gamble.

    ReplyDelete
  59. There's plenty of different ways to do it, I agree with that. I just don't think Big Show and Kane dumping all the babyfaces was the problem. If Reigns hadn't laid around like a bitch and then needed Uncle Rocky's help, and more importantly IF WE FUCKING LIKED HIM AND WERE INTERESTED IN SEEING HIM WIN TO BEGIN WITH, then Reigns winning by avenging all of his babyface buddies and dumping the two monsters who took over the match would have been pretty cool.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Hawk wrestled on the opening night in Philly with a lot of tv hype and inclusion on the home video

Animal wrestled in Cincinnati and drew about 500 fans

    ReplyDelete
  61. was a lot of people being Rick Steiner by then, and a big singles push was in line until Rick asked for Scott to be hired from Memphis "where Scott was going broke" and accidentally killed off Alex

    ReplyDelete
  62. use to rent SummerSlam 1990 and WrestleMania 5 to watch the Rockers take a beat down over and over again... good times

    ReplyDelete
  63. Samu and Fatu were pretty interchangeable as the Headshrinkers, so seeing the latter break out as a quasi main eventer on 2000 was pretty surprising. Sure, you went through a lot of stuff before that happened (the Sionne switch, Makin a Difference Fatu, the Sultan, etc.) but who would have thought WWE would put all that effort into making one half of the frickin Headshrinkers into a draw?

And speaking of Sionne, the Powers of Pain were clearly a case of two Jannettys at once. If one of them had even an ounce of charisma they could have separated themselves but they were both pretty dreadful singles acts.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I would have killed for a "Bring Back Pat" Chant..

    ReplyDelete
  65. Doesn't he have Maryse waiting for him at home?

    ReplyDelete
  66. The Love-Matic Grampa!January 27, 2015 at 4:31 PM

And Roman, their noted Chosen One, didn't even look that impressive. Just a failure all around, really.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I think the Barbarian had a lot of charisma and was a decent worker. Sure, he was never gonna be World Champion but as an IC Contender, why not? I can see Bret getting some decent matches out of him.

Also, I'm a Faces of Fear Mark.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Also Flair never really called out Animal in promos, but almost always Road Warrior "Big Bird" Hawk!

    ReplyDelete
  69. Dusty wanted to book Steiner over Flair for the World Title at Starrcade in a squash in 1988.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Master Blaster Iron!!! His partner went on to be OZ and have 3,456 knee surgeries!!

    ReplyDelete
  71. He connected with his family perfectly though.

    ReplyDelete
  72. A million times this. #bowflex2necks

    ReplyDelete
  73. Before the breakup, in the Apter magazines it was frequently mentioned that Shawn was the better of the two. But yeah, I didn't see it either. I was like, "Huh?"

    ReplyDelete
  74. His preference for fuschia tells me all I need to know about Dolph Ziggler

    ReplyDelete
  75. Fat, Ugly Inner-City SweathogJanuary 27, 2015 at 6:34 PM

Indeed. Kane & Big Show were just filler in the Rumble like a dozen fucking years ago, yet now they are treated like a big deal

    ReplyDelete
  76. Fat, Ugly Inner-City SweathogJanuary 27, 2015 at 6:35 PM

Exactly. I loved Benoit in his day, but I never had any illusions about him being a top draw. Bryan connects with fans like only a handful of guys ever did on top

    ReplyDelete
  77. Fat, Ugly Inner-City SweathogJanuary 27, 2015 at 6:46 PM

Seriously, Kane needs to fuck off and retire. I truly don't care that he's "loyal" or "the nicest guy around" or any of that backstage bullshit. Dude was played out by 2002 (at the latest) and only got interesting momentarily when associated with Daniel Bryan as a mid-card act. Sure, he took a one-off Undertaker monster-of-the-week character and went almost two decades with it. Who cares? The whole "longevity" thing is not real. This isn't a real sport. He has been booked to always be important, even at the expense of others. He hasn't done anything--performance-wise or character-wise--that warrants this arbitrary "longevity".

And take fucking Big Show with you.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Charlie Haas is a bit of a Jannetty. Shelton fell short of his grooming, but definitely had a solid presence while Charlie never even got an IC or US title reign. If you can't win a singles title in the modern era, you're virtually an afterthought.

    ReplyDelete
  79. "You know guys, I have a day job and stuff..."
    Oh shut the fuck up.

    I do too, dick.

    ReplyDelete
  80. They should have Reigns beat Show by using his Superman Punch to cancel out the WMD punch. Show goes for the KO, Reigns jumps up and goes for the Superman Punch, their fists collide, Show loses. At the very least they've got a cool, impressive visual for their highlight reel people.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Well Davey Boy Smith by default I guess, actually it pretty interesting thinking about what a healthy Dynamite wudda done solo.
And of course the Hitman, who was obviously leagues ahead of the Anvil.

And just a total side note here cuz I JUST watched the match....but the mid-80's WWF once was pushing the team of the South Pacific Connection....the team of Superfly Snuka & Steamboat. That is so sweet.

    ReplyDelete
  82. link to this info with attendance? I only got my info from PWI, who CERTAINLY considered Hawk and Animal equal. I was 8, but to my memories there was no more hype in 1986 for Hawk as a Singles Wrestler than Animal.

    ReplyDelete
  83. 3900 paid in Cincinnati.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Wrestling Observer at the time, 500, biggest dud of the tour

    ReplyDelete
  85. Hawk's title match at the first of the Bash tour, episodes of World Wide talked a lot about the Hawk match in Philly

    ReplyDelete
  86. thehistoryofwwe.com says 3900 paid. I just looked it up today. Who knows who is right? But you can't possibly argue that Animal was more of a dud than Robert Gibson:)

    ReplyDelete
  87. Hell, Reigns should just eat the punch, drop to one knee like he's out... then just SLAM his fist into the ground, roar and punch Big Show in the fucking face. THAT'S how a Monster Face is pushed.

    ReplyDelete
  88. That works, too. Really, Big Show isn't a bad opponent for Reigns if they want to get him over as a badass face, but it sounds like they're fucking up an easy thing.
