Hey Scott,
http://youtu.be/xuIrP4pDIJY?t=27m14s
Isn't that Lex Luger's WCW theme playing? How'd they get away with that?!?
IT'S FUCKING BLUE AND BLACK! How can anyone possibly see it the other way? FUCK!
Anyway, as to the question, they would do those kinds of weird edits a lot. During the Bill Watts era, they would show a clip of next week's main event in the "next week" portion of the taped show in order to attempt to pop a rating for it. I guess they figured that everyone knew it wasn't live anyway.
ENOUGH OF 1996 RAW AND NITRO ALREADY JESUS MAN
ReplyDeleteI want to relive 1996 as much as possible! I was 16, I had my license, I had some pretty hot girlfriends, and I was livin' the dream!
ReplyDelete1996 FOR-EV-ER!!!!!!!!!
ENOUGH OF THIS GUY ALREADY TOO
ReplyDeleteThe best song of 1996 was of course, Spaceman by Babylon Zoo. I don't believe it even appeared in the PTBN's Best Song of the 1990's thing.
ReplyDeleteHey!
ReplyDeleteHey!
Why do you look like Mike Seaver from Growing Pains in your avatar, and who is screaming in your ear?
The resemblance is striking, however that is of course AGENT DALE COOPER on the right, with BOB screaming in his ear.
ReplyDeleteWe deserve answers!
ReplyDeleteSo, on the most recent Live Nerdist podcast, someone asked if they'd interview more wrestlers. Hardwick said they'd like to, but who would be interesting to interview.
ReplyDeleteIron Sheik was mentioned, to which the guys immediately turned down. They said they'd love to have the Rock on.
Anyone else you guys think they should get on?
TNA are doing that "next week" thing now, showing clips of next week's show at the end of Impact. I'm not a fan.
ReplyDeleteThat said, I'm finding Impact unwatchable anyway due to the camera work, so no great loss.
But, yeah, 1996. X-Files is getting a bit shit.
I have no idea who either of those people are.
ReplyDeleteIs this some British thing? It's a British thing.
Really, by 96? Is that Season 3? I thought X Files was smashing it then. Think it probably should have ended in 98 maybe.
ReplyDeleteIt's Twin Peaks, Matt!
ReplyDeleteOh. Yeah. Okay. Laura Palmer. Got it.
ReplyDelete1996 is the best year ever for wrestling, mostly because of ECW, however.
ReplyDeleteHow dare you.
ReplyDeleteLex Luger's WCW theme (like Goldberg's) is a stock theme. Think "freelance music", where it's written, and wrestling companies can pick it up for themes, or the History network can pick it up for WWII dramas.
ReplyDeleteOn this note, Lex's 1996-1998 theme and Goldberg's WCW theme are fucking badass and suit the characters to a tee.
Good man. The funking dress is blue and black!
ReplyDeleteI was just going to post this. Another common example of this is Marvelous Marc Mero and either Joe Gomez or The Renegade having the same production song for a theme. Also - Benoits first WCW theme was often used by Fox in commercials for their prime time shows.
ReplyDeleteIf that dress looks blue and black to you, you need to brighten your monitor up a bit.
ReplyDeleteWhat's this about a dress now?
ReplyDeleteTNA shows clips from the following week also now.
ReplyDeleteWhite and gold btw .
ReplyDeleteTNA could show clips of October's Impact at this rate. SPOILER - Tommy Dreamer's there.
ReplyDelete100% Blue and Black - the manufacturer says so:

Some of the reviews are quite funny, though :)
Season 4 started in 96 and I personally thought it was on the downward curve at this point (working from memory). I loved the show for the first 2-3 seasons but hate stuff that gets stale (like a big chunk of the current WWE roster)
ReplyDeleteStanding on her momma's porch...she told you that she'd wait forever...
ReplyDeleteA lot of WCW music was stock music. Jericho said his first theme was used for sports highlights, I've heard Lugers in random commercials. I think even the Hollywood Blondes theme I heard somewhere else.
ReplyDeleteAdditional spoiler: he's fat and emotional
ReplyDeleteYou're dyslexic.
ReplyDeleteThose were the best days of his life.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure both WWF and WCW were using Marc Mero's theme at the same time, WCW was using it for some jobber guys I think
ReplyDeleteThe Brian Kendrick - was there nothing he couldn't do?!
ReplyDeleteHow is that not blue and black? What's the deal with this? Why is this a thing? Who started it?
ReplyDeleteSome gimp with a shitty cameraphone took a photo with terrible exposure and white balance and it seems to have hit some sort of bizarre sweet spot in people's perception where - to many - it looks white and gold, because they're insane...
ReplyDeleteIt was a mixed bag for me by season 5. I still liked the stand-alone episodes, but I felt the aliens/government conspiracy stuff was all getting a bit too confusing and not really all that interesting.
ReplyDeleteAh, okay. This seems like a perfectly reasonable use of news and the internet.
ReplyDeleteI used to hear the Hardy Boyz music on commercials all the time.
ReplyDeleteThat and Hardcore Holly's theme. Constantly featured in commercials on Spike, as well as any sciency type channel.
ReplyDeleteTHERE ARE FOUR LIGHTS!
ReplyDeleteWait, no, sorry.
Tangent - on NXT, what was the name of the guy who seemed like a bit of a "Next Kurt Angle" type?
ReplyDeleteI only remember seeing him once (I think he lost, but looked very impressive) but I can't remember his name.
If it's someone really obvious, I'll hold my hands up to being an idiot. :)
