Austin also does alternate commentary with Jim Ross on his DVD for his match with HBK at WrestleMania 14, though it's a bit of a downer as he pretty much hates that match. He gives a lot of insight on how much pain he and HBK were in at the time, though.
I really think Zingano will pull it out. She is undoubtedly Rousey's toughest test so far and hearing Zingano's backstory really makes me think she'll want it more. Plus, I don't think Rousey's striking is all that good.
It's always funny when ESPN covers MMA thoroughly, esp on SportsCenter. I remember when UFC was breaking out, SportsCenter had some boxing writer schmuck and Joe Rogan debate about MMA's legitimacy and even with Brian Kelly, of course in the corner of the boxing fellow, turning it into a handicap match, Rogan DESTROYED them with fact after fact. When they tried to bring up the "someone could die, it's barbaric!" angle, Rogan brought up that more boxers had died on ESPN's Friday Night Fights in that year alone than in UFC's history. Even when Kenny tried to get the last word with "still nothing better than a perfect KO", Rogan rebutted with submissions being just as great. A year later, they started covering UFC.
They've added a ton for free through DLC and vastly improved the game from how it was out of the box. They've done a great job continuing to make it better
So, I asked in another thread, but do you guys think I should go to Mania this year?
It's about 2 hours away for me, and I don't have shit to do Monday so it's not like I'm fucking with my schedule, but do you think it'll be worth it? I haven't seen that much live wrestling (only other show has been SummerSlam 2013) and I probably won't get a WM in my backyard for a good long while. However I'm only going to get the shittiest of shit seats and I don't know if I can persuade anybody to go with me.
Right? They could've easily said fuck it, were done, but they've been great in balancing the game post-release and added big names for free like Dillashaw, Diego, Rampage, Hughes, Arlovski, and BROCK LESNAR
My wife and sister are currently engaged in fawning over Roman Reigns and discussing how he totally looks like Aries from Xena. Somebody slit my throat.
I stayed at work an extra 45 minutes watching the daily motion video of Austins wrestlemania 17 podcast synced up with the match against Rock. Got totally caught up in the video. Hearing Austin pick that match apart is so interesting. If you haven't seen it, check it out.
I bought the 360, I've been playing UFC3 non-stop. I think EA UFC is missing is some wall to wall mechanics and more game options(tournament, event mode, ladder style), something I'm enjoying in UFC3
Another thing is you get to pick your opponents at the career mode, I like that option and is missing in EA UFC.
For a long time I had no problem with WWE going away from hardcore style. But dammit it's been long enough that I would like to see a little hardcore stuff again.
It's worse in the league I have 50 bucks on and am in a tight matchup. Just want to go in the bathroom and wreck shit a la Adam Sandler in Punch Drunk Love
Would ROH be more successful on Spike than TNA? I think if they got enough money from Spike to just make their visual presentation look better than they could easily equal the ratings that TNA was getting.
Yeah, I think they could steadily build more and more of an audience with that sort of exposure on Spike, whereas TNA always tried to hotshot everything.
It seems like a more viably booked alternative than TNA which always felt more like they were trying to do the same stuff WWE did(despite exceeding them in some areas like KO and X Division)
Star Trek IV - The Voyage Home in honour of Leonard Nimoy's passing. The film was Nimoy's directorial debut. Going to watch it with Nimoy and Shatner's audio commentary turned on. #LLAP
Currently reading a January 97 Wrestling Observer and Dave says something VERY similar to someone we know today: "Helmsley has potential, but at this point, he's being pushed only on potential and politics, and because he's got a good head of hair. His work is only slightly better than average and his interviews and persona are below average."
I think something that hasn't been brought up about Reigns, that kind if interestingly juxtaposes with the givedivasachance movement, is the idea that having Reigns on top will bring in more women viewers to the product because he's attractive. I have to wonder if WWE wants to convert those Total Divas viewers who don't watch Raw or Smackdown into viewers with a guy like Reigns being front and center. I think that goes along with giving more emphasis and better stories with the divas because I think that would actually impact having more female viewers over the long term.
Bruins vs Devils for me tonight. Sucks that he got traded to the Panthers b/c I really like watching him play. Funny to see that Jagr has been playing longer than the Panthers have been a franchise.
Hopefully they can avoid the ratings chasing itch and carve out a nice spot for themselves.
I think that has been TNA's problem. They seem like they want to be #1 #1 and the focus is on that rather than just focusing on becoming a viable #2.
There's absolutely nothing wrong with being #2 especially if you can be a healthy and profitable #2. TNA's Chase to be WWE has prevented them from even becoming a healthy #2 at times.
I live near Scarsdale NY (which is where Captain Lou Albano's funeral and after dinner were years back) and apparently Sandman showed up all fucked up and started fighting one of the relatives--it was all over our Local News.
I get the reasoning but the timing is the worst. Rock leaves the next day, they keep Hunter heel, they have WCW and the invasion on the horizon. Just a huge blunder.
Wrestlemania III...how good were the Can-Am Connection? Also Monsoon just called someone in this match the excellence of execution. Funny to hear that phrase applied to someone other than Bret Hart.
Got mad that the Bruins didn't get him back for this season. He played for the B's in 2012-2013. But after Googling him, I noticed that he only scored 2 goals in 33 games including the playoffs. But he then scored 24 for NJ the next season. I think he may be done.
Because Rock ain't stooping down to Austin's level. Rock's making legit A-list movies and much as I love Austin he's doing redneck reality shows and B-Movie action flicks.
Never found out why Tom Zenk left the WWF to leave "Chico" w/o a tag partner. I sure as hell liked them mush more than the Killer Bees. Never liked the Bees at all.
Zenk felt (like most wrestlers do eventually) that McMahon was being greedy with the payouts and told him that what he was making was not what he signed for. He told Vince to fuck himself and actually left.
Yeah, which is weird because Zenk got nothing going in WCW. He's your perfect good looking WWF baby face. He could have ridden that for years. CanAms probably would have gotten the titles from the Harts like Strike Force did.
ACH vs. Alberto El Patron - Short, but fine match between the two. ACH is so damn athletic. ***1/4
Mark Briscoe vs. Michael Elgin - Awful match. Elgin's new gimmick sucks. The crowd is dead for hi matches. *1/2
TV Title: Jay Lethal vs. Roderick Strong - Good match between the two. Nothing spectacular, but perfectly fine for TV. The re-start was pretty cool. ***1/4.
Matches were all edited down from the Winter Warriors Tour. Still a solid episode. The 13th Anniversary main event between Jay Briscoe (defending the ROH title) vs. Tommaso Ciampa vs. Hanson vs. Michael Elgin is going to be all kinds of bad. The crowd isn't into Elgin, at least with this gimmick, and Hanson is green as goose shit.
Florida and B's are fighting for the 8th spot. Yeah it was lopsided but no surprise they made the deal. I know Jagr sucked for us as I said before but they need a right winger. A lot of fans including me are still pissed they gave away Boychuk to the Islanders for nothing right before the season started. We could use him right about now.
Whatever happened to Elgin. He was getting hype in 2011-2012 and had that kickass match with Davey at their Mania weekend show. It seems like he's floundered since then.
He was doing really awesome in the ring, then won the ROH title, then the crowd turned on him per usual for new ROH champs. He then had a big falling out with ROH that saw him leave the company for a bit and he trash talked it. Now he's back with some cheap fan hating heel gimmick.
They were good. But I thought Martel was better fit and made a better opponent for Santana when he turned. Zenk walked out over money and with buzz that surrounded him in the late 80s, his career was a disappointment.
Every single time they turn on the champs. Steen was never really turned on. He was so over the top at the time though. The crowd hated the SCUM group he was in though.
I think my only problem with Santana is that he had such a pre-established career as a single guy, it seems weird to see him in a tag team. Plus he kept the Strike Force tights LONG after the split with Martel.
Started earlier this week after coworkers told me to. Up to episode 7, and I'll be iced in most of the weekend so I should be able to knock out the first 2 seasons
Their deal with NJPW is very intriguing. I really liked the interpromotional shows last year. Plus, they have been signing some good talent like AJ, Joe, Bad Influence, Del Rio, etc.
I find it odd that all Austin plays are serious, angsty roles. Why hasn't some low budget director not cast basically cast him as Stone Cold but an action hero instead of a wrestler?
I don't know how much you know about the story, but what happened to Shaloub's character is worth its own movie. I read about it in Maxim years before I saw the movie.
That's what's got me intrigued. Familiar, solid name talent like AJ who has been reenergized, Joe maybe if he can get motivated, Bad Influence was always good, I'm not a big Del Rio fan but I'm interested in seeing him in new places, and that NJPW deal is interesting too.
Santana was tag team champ with Ivan Putski and Martel was tag team champion with Tony Garea during my first years as a fan so them as a team didn't weird me out. Besides, the talent in 1989 was pretty deep so Strike Force was a good career for them. As far as the trunks go, Vince probably like it on Santana and when Santana complained about it, VInce made him dress like a matador. Maybe.
ACH is from here so he's on every indy card we have, usually with Ricky Starks (a guy who WWE has put in backstage segments recently). Love watching those two work.
The Bruins are fucked by the cap but they can put Krejci on IR or something like that and can free up 6 million or so but they haven't done that for some reason.
Lashley defends the World title against MVP Mr. Kennedy returns to action Kurt Angle cuts a promo A guy that isn't even with the company anymore (Joe) will be wrestling Aries
Over/under: Cat Zingano lasting five minutes against Rowdy Ronda Rousey?
ReplyDeleteOver, she's actually a credible challenger, but Mrs. Psycho #3 still wins via ARMBAR.
ReplyDeleteIt's a shame they never let the Steiners suplex the shit out of Yoko. That would have been fun to see.
ReplyDeleteBaths > Showers.
ReplyDeleteZingano wins.
ReplyDeleteThis is why down votes need to come back.
ReplyDelete*spills drink*
ReplyDeleteAre you serious, my platonic love will slay Zingano.
Over
ReplyDeleteDat girl in your fave five, boi

ReplyDeleteYou have a point with Ronda, she TKO'd her last two opponents.
ReplyDeleteAll Zingano has to do is stretch the fight out a bit and she'll drag Rousey into barely familiar territory.
ReplyDeleteRemember when Jeff Hardy got booed out at BFG against Aries?
ReplyDeleteSame thing happening with Reigns, only X60 bigger.
In his defense, this is why he prefers them:

ReplyDeleteShe has cardio, everyone thought it was over in the Miesha rematch, but she kept the pace well.
ReplyDeleteFollowing the $
ReplyDeleteI'm seeing footage of the EA UFC game, looks decent in some areas. But I think the roster is thin.
ReplyDeleteThey've added a ton for free through DLC and vastly improved the game from how it was out of the box. They've done a great job continuing to make it better
ReplyDeleteWOW, that's something I've never seen from modern EA. Free and good DLC?
ReplyDeleteI think Dana joked once that if Ronda beats Zingano, Holm and Cyborg, he'll probably send her to fight Dillashaw.
ReplyDeleteSo, I asked in another thread, but do you guys think I should go to Mania this year?
ReplyDeleteIt's about 2 hours away for me, and I don't have shit to do Monday so it's not like I'm fucking with my schedule, but do you think it'll be worth it? So, should I stay (home) or should I go now?
That feel when the women's MMA fighters this weekend all weigh more than me.....
ReplyDeleteRight? They could've easily said fuck it, were done, but they've been great in balancing the game post-release and added big names for free like Dillashaw, Diego, Rampage, Hughes, Arlovski, and BROCK LESNAR
ReplyDeleteToothpick.
ReplyDeleteMy wife and sister are currently engaged in fawning over Roman Reigns and discussing how he totally looks like Aries from Xena. Somebody slit my throat.
ReplyDeleteBah, being 135 ain't so bad.
ReplyDeleteLimp Bizkit may be terrible, but you can never take away My Way or Rollin'
ReplyDeleteI stayed at work an extra 45 minutes watching the daily motion video of Austins wrestlemania 17 podcast synced up with the match against Rock. Got totally caught up in the video. Hearing Austin pick that match apart is so interesting. If you haven't seen it, check it out.
ReplyDeleteOnly two hours is nothing so go.
ReplyDeleteGo, then you can say you've been to two PPVs at the same time as the resident fantasy sports guru on the BoD, DBSM
ReplyDeleteRIP Spock :(
ReplyDeleteI bought the 360, I've been playing UFC3 non-stop. I think EA UFC is missing is some wall to wall mechanics and more game options(tournament, event mode, ladder style), something I'm enjoying in UFC3

I wish WWE brought back the old blue bar cage.
ReplyDeleteI weigh more than you , around 69kg.
ReplyDeleteMick Foley doesn't...
ReplyDeleteWith blood and piledrivers.
ReplyDeleteIf the card looks shitty don't go.
ReplyDeleteGoing despite a shitty card just serves to prove their "ah it's Mania people will pay no matter what" theory right.
For a long time I had no problem with WWE going away from hardcore style. But dammit it's been long enough that I would like to see a little hardcore stuff again.
ReplyDeleteA match that deserved to be hardcore, HHH/Orton at Mania 25.
ReplyDeleteNo reason whatsoever we shouldn't see some juice 3-4 times a year.
ReplyDeleteAmbrose/Rollins was begging for blood.
ReplyDeleteOh fuck me, I forgot to set my fantasy lineups. Jesus fucking Christ
ReplyDeleteDo it, then you can report back to us how the crowd was.
ReplyDeleteHomie be slippin'
ReplyDeleteIt's worse in the league I have 50 bucks on and am in a tight matchup. Just want to go in the bathroom and wreck shit a la Adam Sandler in Punch Drunk Love
ReplyDeleteBasketball or Hockey?
ReplyDeleteWhat to watch?
ReplyDeleteGuardians of the Galaxy or X-Men First Class?
Guardians.
ReplyDeleteI feel like those are the only two movies you ever watch lol.
ReplyDeleteGuardians.
All of my leagues, money bball league, Bod bball, BoD hockey
ReplyDeleteNooooo
ReplyDeleteI will always have a soft spot for them. I'd take Limp Bizkit over dreck like OAR or DMB any day
ReplyDeleteGuardians
ReplyDeleteOh wow so you REALLY blew it! Someone is becoming the 1 in 19-1!
ReplyDeleteOh yeah my team has shat the bed all week anyway
ReplyDeleteWould ROH be more successful on Spike than TNA? I think if they got enough money from Spike to just make their visual presentation look better than they could easily equal the ratings that TNA was getting.
ReplyDeleteFor sure, ROH's booking is safe.
ReplyDeleteI think they've got a better talent roster and their deal with NJPW is a plus. Also they don't have awful initials like TNA so that helps.
ReplyDeleteI would be behind ROH getting on Spike. I haven't watched the company in a few years but I'd pick back up to see whats what on an accessible channel
any rewatching going on tonight?
ReplyDeleteYeah, I think they could steadily build more and more of an audience with that sort of exposure on Spike, whereas TNA always tried to hotshot everything.
ReplyDeleteOne thing I like about ROH is that they always make long title Reigns for their World Champions
ReplyDeleteIt seems like a more viably booked alternative than TNA which always felt more like they were trying to do the same stuff WWE did(despite exceeding them in some areas like KO and X Division)
ReplyDeleteStar Trek IV - The Voyage Home in honour of Leonard Nimoy's passing. The film was Nimoy's directorial debut. Going to watch it with Nimoy and Shatner's audio commentary turned on. #LLAP
ReplyDeleteNot having the Network, maybe I'll continue watching ROH shows where I left off. It's been about a year lol.
ReplyDeleteAnd of course, guys on my bench who would've been in my lineup are off to great starts. Fuck this fucking bullshit
ReplyDeleteCurrently reading a January 97 Wrestling Observer and Dave says something VERY similar to someone we know today: "Helmsley has potential, but at this point, he's being pushed only on
ReplyDeletepotential and politics, and because he's got a good head of hair. His
work is only slightly better than average and his interviews and persona
are below average."
Spoiler, Briscoe has the belt again.
ReplyDeleteI don't care for hitting people using cookie sheets but I would like more intensity in the product. It should be okay for guys to hate each other.
ReplyDeleteActually planned on watching it tomorrow morning.
ReplyDeleteI think something that hasn't been brought up about Reigns, that kind if interestingly juxtaposes with the givedivasachance movement, is the idea that having Reigns on top will bring in more women viewers to the product because he's attractive. I have to wonder if WWE wants to convert those Total Divas viewers who don't watch Raw or Smackdown into viewers with a guy like Reigns being front and center. I think that goes along with giving more emphasis and better stories with the divas because I think that would actually impact having more female viewers over the long term.
ReplyDeleteDid anyone ever watch Sho Kougi ninja movies from the 80s?
ReplyDeleteMe.
ReplyDeleteYeah I agree. I don't even demand bloodshed or thumb tacks. But INTENSITY in these gimmick matches at least.
ReplyDeleteBruins vs Devils for me tonight. Sucks that he got traded to the Panthers b/c I really like watching him play. Funny to see that Jagr has been playing longer than the Panthers have been a franchise.
ReplyDeleteWell Im still back in 2004 in my ROH viewing haha
ReplyDeleteI'm going in order all their shows from 2002-2007ish.
Jagr is still around? sheesh. what is he now? pushing 50?
ReplyDelete43
ReplyDeleteYeah, ROH seems to have more of a hard hitting Mid-Atlantic type feel whereas TNA always seems like they want to relive the Attitude Era.
ReplyDeleteGo. It's Wrestlemania.
ReplyDeleteI saw something about a Sandman O.D. Is that real? and was it brought up here? I don't remember ever hearing about it.
ReplyDeleteAustin's pop at WrestleMania X7 is pretty much the most ungodly pop of all time.
ReplyDeleteI t most on DVD now. My dad and I watched the hell out of them. Talk about fun flicks!
ReplyDeleteYeah, that's definitely a plus over changing the title every week on a whim.
ReplyDeleteDid you saw the one with JCVD?
ReplyDeleteI still love most of his pops in 98-99--insane (especially that Mankind wins the title one). He's amazing
ReplyDeleteThat one always gives me chills, it's insane.
ReplyDeleteHopefully they can avoid the ratings chasing itch and carve out a nice spot for themselves.
ReplyDeleteI think that has been TNA's problem.
ReplyDeleteI'm currently watching 2008-2009 stuff. The Age of the Fall went on forever.
ReplyDeleteTurning Austin heel has to be one of Vince's biggest mistakes.
ReplyDeleteso he's still alive?
ReplyDeleteYeah Black Eagle. I got that and a bunch more on a trading board a few years back.
ReplyDeleteCaptain Lou's funeral was in Mahopac. I went.
ReplyDeleteThe rationale made sense but it was just the absolute worst time, especially with Rock going off to film The Scorpion King
ReplyDeleteYeah, and right now the industry desperately needs a viable number two promotion.
ReplyDeleteIn America that is.
ReplyDeleteGenerico/Steen made me watch ROH.
ReplyDeleteHeading home soon and will catch up on this week's Better Call Saul and the ESPN doc on the Von Erich tonight.
ReplyDeleteI get the reasoning but the timing is the worst. Rock leaves the next day, they keep Hunter heel, they have WCW and the invasion on the horizon. Just a huge blunder.
ReplyDeleteAn Austin/Rock podcast would be best for business. Followed by a buddy cop movie.
ReplyDeleteIt's surprising that he got protected so much after Hall and Nash left because early HHH really wasn't that much bigger than Bryan, just taller.
ReplyDeleteYeah, they were almost guaranteed to put on a good match.
ReplyDeletestill don't know why the buddy cop thing hasn't happened. It'd be hilarious.
ReplyDeleteI've always loved Boiler too. Great song when I'm pissed off or at the gym. Or both.
ReplyDeleteWho's gonna be the serious cop, who would be the loose cannon?
ReplyDeleteAustin serious. Rock loose cannon quipster.
ReplyDeleteAs long as they add in Vince as the police chief.
ReplyDeleteIt's a sad state of affairs when the most viable #2 is WWE's own NXT.
ReplyDeleteWrestlemania III...how good were the Can-Am Connection? Also Monsoon just called someone in this match the excellence of execution. Funny to hear that phrase applied to someone other than Bret Hart.
ReplyDeleteGot mad that the Bruins didn't get him back for this season. He played for the B's in 2012-2013. But after Googling him, I noticed that he only scored 2 goals in 33 games including the playoffs. But he then scored 24 for NJ the next season. I think he may be done.

ReplyDeleteYou mean, Sho Kosugi? That guy was the ultimate ninja B-movie actor, along with Michael Dudikoff (American Ninja).
ReplyDeleteAnd Bolo Yeung.
ReplyDeleteFair enough, but it wouldn't kill Rock's career to make something I would find watchable.
ReplyDeleteOops, darn auto correct. He was amazing. Revenge of the ninja is my favorite, with enter the ninja a close second. They were all get though.
ReplyDeleteBloodsport, baby.
ReplyDeleteActually it's Martel with Zenk in the Can-Ams...they brought Tito on to make Strike Force.
ReplyDeleteNobody fucks down, not by choice at least.
ReplyDeleteWould've been awesome if Austin had a cameo as Rock's partner in The Other Guys.
Your getting Bayless'd
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of which, you can find the Can-Am Connection's debut RIGHT HERE on Stranger's Dailymotion channel.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2hxkbv_superstars-11-15-86_sport
I think he's fine as a bottom six guy, if he's willing to play that role.
ReplyDeleteZenk felt (like most wrestlers do eventually) that McMahon was being greedy with the payouts and told him that what he was making was not what he signed for. He told Vince to fuck himself and actually left.
ReplyDeleteI think it was a contract dispute.
ReplyDeleteAfter watching Hercules I don't know if that's true....
ReplyDeleteYou're right! I'm sorry, I was confusing it with Paul Heyman. The after dinner was in Yonkers, you're totally right.
ReplyDeleteCorrect
ReplyDeleteI thought it was a lopsided trade for the Devils. Florida just overbid.
ReplyDeleteHe was Shawn's boy (and Shawn was Vince's boy toy).
ReplyDeleteYeah, which is weird because Zenk got nothing going in WCW. He's your perfect good looking WWF baby face. He could have ridden that for years. CanAms probably would have gotten the titles from the Harts like Strike Force did.
ReplyDeleteAnyone else binging House of Cards? I'm up to episode 3.
ReplyDeleteMost likely yeah. But w/o him leaving the WWF, we never would have got the Z-Man!!
ReplyDeleteYeah, it's pretty crazy when you think about it. If they could get a company that isn't WWE to book a show like NXT then they might have something.
ReplyDeleteHercules was fine.
ReplyDeleteWestchester represent!
ReplyDeleteI love The Rock's movies. He hasn't made a stinker in a while.
ReplyDeleteProblem is that NXT has WWE's bankroll and resources behind it. Other companies wouldn't have that luxury.
ReplyDeleteMeh. It was interesting though that they had Rock as a former wrestler play a guy who was working everybody to get them to think he was Hercules.
ReplyDeleteWent to a house show in Indiana back in 98 with Austin/HHH on top. Yeah, Austin was over - and my hearing just about returned by the time I got home.
ReplyDeleteWhich is a total booker thing. They will always try to find a way to screw over talent for a few bucks.
ReplyDeleteMy friend summed it up perfectly: It's The Rock as Hercules.
ReplyDeleteBrief ROH 2/21 TV Recap:
ReplyDeleteACH vs.
A lot of fans including me are still pissed they gave away Boychuk to the Islanders for nothing right before the season started. We could use him right about now.
ReplyDeleteHa, never noticed Earl blading Rock RIGHT in front of the camera after the monitor shot at X7.
ReplyDelete...And the Invasion. Anyone that knew anything saw it made zero sense for Austin to align with WCW.
ReplyDeleteACH is a future world champion written all over it, anyone who disagrees must have a head exam.
ReplyDeleteWouldn't be easier to book, AJ/Briscoe. It's not that hard ROH.
They had to because they were so fucked by the cap. I think Florida overbid and also used it as a ploy to fill the arena. Not a fan of Dale Tallon.
ReplyDeleteWhatever happened to Elgin. He was getting hype in 2011-2012 and had that kickass match with Davey at their Mania weekend show. It seems like he's floundered since then.
ReplyDeleteDid you watch Final Battle 2014? If so, is it worth a watch?
ReplyDeleteThey took a long time to give him the belt, when he got the belt he had visa issues.
ReplyDeleteHe was doing really awesome in the ring, then won the ROH title, then the crowd turned on him per usual for new ROH champs. He then had a big falling out with ROH that saw him leave the company for a bit and he trash talked it. Now he's back with some cheap fan hating heel gimmick.
ReplyDeleteThey were good. But I thought Martel was better fit and made a better opponent for Santana when he turned. Zenk walked out over money and with buzz that surrounded him in the late 80s, his career was a disappointment.
ReplyDeleteI watched bits and pieces. Most reviews have been very positive.
ReplyDeleteoh so he eventually did win the strap?
ReplyDeleteWhat the hell is the deal with fans turning on the champs? Eddie wasn't champ long enough for fans to turn on him at least.
Did fans turn on Steen too?
Looking at Rock's movies:
ReplyDeleteGI Joe was pretty bad, but everything post Tooth Fairy, has been at worst, watchable.
Wow you are correct! Guess I have to work on my 1987 WWF history. lol
ReplyDeleteElgin isn't bad in the ring, but the guy has NO charisma at all and is worse than terrible on the mic. And Hanson just sucks.
ReplyDeleteHere's hoping Jay gets a "You're a faggot" chant.
Nope, because Steen was a cool heel. Bryan was smart and became a heel too.
ReplyDeleteEvery single time they turn on the champs. Steen was never really turned on. He was so over the top at the time though. The crowd hated the SCUM group he was in though.
ReplyDeleteShazam should be interesting.
ReplyDeleteI think my only problem with Santana is that he had such a pre-established career as a single guy, it seems weird to see him in a tag team. Plus he kept the Strike Force tights LONG after the split with Martel.
ReplyDeleteElgin is literally a Dr. Death ripoff now. He even wears the same robe to the ring.
ReplyDeleteS.C.U.M sucked, Steen as the lone agent of chaos is better.
ReplyDeleteSnitch was fun even if the based on a true story is stretched beyond belief.
ReplyDeleteHerb's the word, spin's the verb.
ReplyDeleteI can't see them putting the belt on Styles. I mean, what kind of company would put its world title on someone who's hardly ever around?
ReplyDeleteI thought Pain and Gain was pretty good.
ReplyDeleteWhen Steen became champ is around when I stopped watching ROH(not because of him though)
ReplyDeleteI think the last ROH shows I watched were their Mania weekend shows in 2012.
Started earlier this week after coworkers told me to. Up to episode 7, and I'll be iced in most of the weekend so I should be able to knock out the first 2 seasons
ReplyDeleteI liked Pain and Gain (hey, Kurt Angle!) even if it was too much. The Rock was awesome.
ReplyDeleteWWE.
ReplyDeleteTheir deal with NJPW is very intriguing. I really liked the interpromotional shows last year. Plus, they have been signing some good talent like AJ, Joe, Bad Influence, Del Rio, etc.
ReplyDeleteSupercard of Honor from last year is solid.
ReplyDeleteDel Rio is taking the TV title.
ReplyDeleteSCUM was fine when it was just Steen, Corino, and Jacobs, but it fell off the rails once they started adding losers like Compton and Hardy.
ReplyDeleteI feel the same way. I liked Pain and Gain but those scenes with Shalhoub were uncomfortable to watch.
ReplyDeleteI think that's the point, to be uncomfortable. The real life case is even crazier.
ReplyDeleteI find it odd that all Austin plays are serious, angsty roles. Why hasn't some low budget director not cast basically cast him as Stone Cold but an action hero instead of a wrestler?
ReplyDeleteI don't think so. I read somewhere that Del Rio will have very limited ROH appearances.
ReplyDeleteI don't know how much you know about the story, but what happened to Shaloub's character is worth its own movie. I read about it in Maxim years before I saw the movie.
ReplyDeleteThat's what's got me intrigued. Familiar, solid name talent like AJ who has been reenergized, Joe maybe if he can get motivated, Bad Influence was always good, I'm not a big Del Rio fan but I'm interested in seeing him in new places, and that NJPW deal is interesting too.
ReplyDeleteCorino and Jacobs joining Steen made no sense, I really enjoyed Corino as a face at that time.
ReplyDeleteSantana was tag team champ with Ivan Putski and Martel was tag team champion with Tony Garea during my first years as a fan so them as a team didn't weird me out. Besides, the talent in 1989 was pretty deep so Strike Force was a good career for them. As far as the trunks go, Vince probably like it on Santana and when Santana complained about it, VInce made him dress like a matador. Maybe.
ReplyDeleteDel Rio is motivated again.
ReplyDeleteThose thighs aren't meaty enough, pal, into matador pants with you!
ReplyDeleteACH is from here so he's on every indy card we have, usually with Ricky Starks (a guy who WWE has put in backstage segments recently). Love watching those two work.
ReplyDeleteAnd Play is the Adjective.
ReplyDelete"SEND THE ROOKIES TO THE ARMED STAND OFF GODDAMMIT! I KNOW THEY HAVEN'T HAD MUCH TRAINING BUT THEY HAVE THE RIGHT LOOK WE NEED FOR THE SITUATION!"
ReplyDeleteHave you ever talked to him? Is he nice?
ReplyDeleteThey have a PPV on Sunday. I'm sure there will be streams posted up on here. Try it out, you'll probably like it!
ReplyDeleteThe Bruins are fucked by the cap but they can put Krejci on IR or something like that and can free up 6 million or so but they haven't done that for some reason.
ReplyDeletehaha, yupp! I'm actually only a few houses away from that awful murder suicide this week.
ReplyDeleteTonight on WWE Smackdown 2006:
ReplyDeleteLashley defends the World title against MVP
Mr. Kennedy returns to action
Kurt Angle cuts a promo
A guy that isn't even with the company anymore (Joe) will be wrestling Aries
You really jumped the shark, finally!
ReplyDeleteHarrison, repesent! The younger girl who died was apparently a big wrestling fan.
ReplyDeleteI'm in Northern Westchester.
Have you guys saw the little feud Ronda is having with the ring girls?
ReplyDeleteYeah. If I were those ring girls I wouldn't bark too much because Ronda has a big bite.
ReplyDeleteEmpire State was pretty bad, too. But, mostly agreed. He's in perfectly acceptable movies that I forget immediately.
