Hatesong is typically the bottom of the AVClub barrel for features, but Chris Jericho cutting a crazed heel promo on "Cotton Eyed Joe" while the interviewer tries to play along politely is probably the best one they've done.
Hatesong is usually top-of-the-line unless they get some dipshit indie musician who ignores the point of the feature and uses their space to self-promote or tell unrelated stories.
I dunno, maybe it's because RAW & SmackDown have looked the same every week for a decade, but I think some people forget that WWE wrestlers actually spend hours every day travelling to different cities, and do the bulk of their wrestling on house shows. Judging them on how hard they work by what they do on TV is ridiculous.
Who worked harder this week: Natalya or Dean Ambrose?
They do indeed blast that stupid song at hockey arenas everywhere up here. Also, Stompin' Tom Connors. You'll also get a lot of Tom Cochrane's "Big League" which is rather ironic considering the subject matter.
This is a fun read.

ReplyDeleteI'm glad to see somebody else shares my utter disdain for Mambo No. 5. I hated that fucking song since I was seven.
ReplyDeletePlease....I'll take Cotton Eye Joe over any and every Fozzy song
ReplyDeletethere were much worse songs in 1995 alone.
ReplyDeleteThat made my morning.
ReplyDeletePlease...we all know that "Great Job, Internet" is the true bottom of the barrel for AVClub.
ReplyDeleteMan that's a lot of tickets left for Wrestlemania.
ReplyDelete"Did...did...the pot make you gay?"
ReplyDeleteI got back from the doctors a few minutes ago and dont even want to read through this whole thing.
ReplyDeleteYeah, got a new PCP and havent had a physical in 9 years.

Don't. It's essentially arguing over the worth of Divas, speculation about attendance figures, and mayo jokes.
ReplyDeleteAnd don't forget wrestling fans' misogynistic views on women.
ReplyDeletewhat you didnt like that "do you wanna go to war" video by fozzy they posted at the end of the piece lol? horrible.
ReplyDeleteThank you! This is something that is being majorly overlooked.
