March 29, 1987
From the Ohio Center in Columbus, OH
Your hosts are Bobby Heenan and Gorilla Monsoon
This show aired the same day as WrestleMania III
In action tonight will be Tito Santana, King Harley Race, Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat, and "Adorable" Adrian Adonis.
Mary Hart is backstage with Andre the Giant and Bobby Heenan. She asks him about tossing Hulk Hogan from the ring during the SNME battle royal as he tells her to take care of her business while he will take care of his business.
Greg Valentine w/ Johnny V. & Brutus Beefcake & Dino Bravo vs. Tito Santana w/ British Bulldogs
Tito wins a slugfest to start the match. Danny Davis is shown in an insert promo speaking about how he is not afraid of Tito or the British Bulldogs as Valentine takes control of the match. He puts Tito in a chinlock after getting two with a fist drop. Tito fights out then hits Valentine with a forearm smash. They slug it out again until Valentine counters a mounted punch attack with an inverted atomic drop. He then tries an atomic drop but Tito blocks that then puts Valentine in the Figure Four as the crowd goes nuts. Johnny V. jumps up on the apron as Bravo slides in and pulls Valentine over to the ropes then starts hammering away on Tito as Johnny V. joins in but Beefcake distances himself from the duo until the Bulldogs chase them away with Matilda as the ref signals for the bell as the match is ruled a double DQ (3:58).
Thoughts: Good action between longtime rivals. The end, with Beefcake distancing himself from his allies was the story here as they continue to play up his anger from Adonis accidentally cutting his hair.
Craig DeGeorge is backstage with King Kong Bundy, who warns the midgets that they will get hurt if they try to stand in his way. DeGeorge, the dumbass that he was, then asks Bundy if he is going to be kind towards the midgets as Bundy tells him he has never been kind to anyone in his life. Generic big man promo from Bundy.
Replay of Hacksaw Jim Duggan chasing off the Iron Sheik, Nikolai Volkoff, and Slick with his 2x4.
Rick Hunter vs. King Harley Race w/ Bobby Heenan
Johnny V. has replaced Heenan on commentary and says that Hunter looks like Robert Redford. Race ambushes a distracted Hunter from behind. He continues to beat the shit out of him then puts him away with the cradle suplex as JYD is shown in an insert promo talking about how he will be the king after WrestleMania III (0:38). After the match, Heenan makes Hunter bow then Race knees him in the face.
Thoughts: They actually got Race some heat at the end of this match but his feud with JYD was somewhat of a disappointment as Race was never over as a heel and JYD's popularity was not what it was two years prior.
Gene Okerlund is backstage with Sheik, Volkoff, and Slick as they hype their WrestleMania III match against the Killer Bees. Not much of note other than Sheik referring to Okerlund as "Gene Mean" during his tangent.
Dino Bravo warns the Rougeau Brothers that at WrestleMania III the Dream Team will tear those "French Frogs" apart. Funny moment as when they cut back to the ring, Monsoon joked how Bravo "isnt exactly Irish" himself.
Rougeau Brothers vs. Dave Wagner & Rick Renslow
The Rougeaus use their speed to take control of the match. Johnny V. is shown in an insert promo denying the rumors about dissension within the Dream Team. Renslow slams Raymond but misses a splash off of the middle rope. Jacques tags and slingshots in with a sunset flip that gets broken up by Wagner. Raymond tags back in and hits a crescent kick but Wagner also breaks that up then the Rougeaus double-team both guys in a clunky sequence before putting away Renslow with the Rougeau Bomb (2:23).
Thoughts: Good action here from the Rougeaus who were just not good enough to be near the top of the tag team division due to the depth it was boasting at the time.
"Adorable" Adrian Adonis w/ Jimmy Hart vs. Corporal Kirchner
These two lockup as we get an insert promo from Piper cuts a promo on Adonis, who gets sent outside. Adonis re-enters the ring then beats on Kirchner in the corner until he gets the win with a splash from the top (1:42).
Thoughts: This was okay I suppose and really just another segment to hype the hair vs. hair match at WrestleMania.
Jimmy Jack Funk vs. Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat
Match is joined in progress as Funk suplexes Steamboat as Savage cuts a promo on Steamboat about how Steamboat is overmatched and that he will not lose the title. Steamboat fights back with his "martial arts" offense. He follows with a vertical suplex but ducks his head on a backdrop attempt and gets booted in the face. Steamboat skins-the-cat then backdrops Funk over the ropes as he goes out and roughs him up for a bit. Back inside, Steamboat catches Funk with a back elbow smash then climbs up and hits the flying chop for the win (2:10).
Thoughts: Really fun two-minute match. This was all action. Savage cut an awesome promo on Steamboat here too as they were really making Steamboat out as the underdog here.
Okerlund is with Hogan, who addresses all of the non-believers. He then says that there is no way, with all of the people behind him and all of the prayers and vitamins, that he will stay on top of the mountain. Really promo from Hogan, who sold this match even more here if that was possible.
Next week we will get part one of the "Ken Patera Story" as Heenan is shocked about this. Also in action will be Kamala, Honky Tonk Man, The Islanders, and Billy Jack Haynes.
Final Thoughts: This show was fine. WrestleMania III did not need anymore hyping at this point as I'm sure everyone watching was ready for the PPV. Very few shows have been built up as good as WrestleMania III.
Here is my schedule for the rest of the week:
Thursday: RF Video Shoot Interview with Koko B. Ware
Friday: WrestleMania III
Sunday: WWF Superstars of Wrestling 4/4/87
Tuesday: WWF Wrestling Challenge 4/5/87

Steph has to go out there and kick ass to move some work out dvds
ReplyDeleteThe next tweet was AJ pointing at the WM sign, right?
ReplyDeleteThen Austin should do an episode wherein he talks long shit about the company and doesn't apologize for them.
ReplyDeleteKind of sad that addressing the mistreatment of female talent is most likely an angle.
ReplyDeleteSounds like the main event of the show.
ReplyDeleteUp high! Anyone?
Oh fuck OFF, McMahons. This isn't leading anywhere good for AJ, guaranteed.
ReplyDeleteSo, with that in mind...which kind of shaming will AJ get? Will it be
A) Slut shaming
B) Body shaming
C) Geek shaming, or
D) all of the above, followed by Stephanie beating her ass in the ring, and send her "home to Phil".
I'm gonna go with D.
I don't see any reason for that to suggest it's totally off forever. I wouldn't be so convinced it was happening if taker hadn't already been confirmed to come back this year and that WM is in Dallas next year.
ReplyDeleteIt's sad to realize they have done such a better job building the sign than 90% of the roster
ReplyDeleteWhich is utter bullshit, since Hunter has never been, nor ever will be, any great shakes in the ring himself.
ReplyDeleteThere's nothing inherently wrong with HHH/Sting as a feud, it's the set-up that stinks. There was a built-in storyline with Flair, and instead they're doing this Vigilante crap.
ReplyDeleteUntil HHH calls him out, and we get Hunter/Austin at Mania in Texas, where Austin does the honors for Hunter.
ReplyDeleteBecause apparently, Hunter now believes that HE is a valid reason for wrestling at Mania. You know, like how for years now, guys have called out Taker? Hunter apparently thinks he's the heir apparent to that spot,
When by all means, if the company had one goddamn functioning brain cell amongst the three head-up-the-asses running it, that spot should go to Brock Lesnar.
Brothers In T-Shirts? Why not
ReplyDeletePeople wanted to see Sting/Taker before Russo ever got his hands in it.
ReplyDeleteThe big pastime for many fans during the Attitude Era was daydreaming what a WWF vs. WCW card would look like. A lot of match-ups of that era wrote themselves: Austin/Goldberg, DDP/Rock, and the two mostly silent, pseudo-gothic, dark and mysterious entities from each company: Sting/Taker.
Trust me, no one here fondly recalls Vampiro-era Sting.
Because he fell down a well. And can't get out.
ReplyDeleteIt's more than you did!
If it's a work, then you know for certain that Steph isn't going to be doing the job.
ReplyDeleteLOL if you think Austin would come back to wrestle, much less job to HHH.
ReplyDeleteWhy not? I'm guessing this is an angle, but still....if I were her, I would get the jobbing to Steph out of the way and get the fuck out of that lousy company.
ReplyDeleteDude's a millionaire, I find it depressing that he's such a yes-man. But then, I also find it depressing what an abrasive shill he is. There's no dignity to the advertising on his podcast.
ReplyDeleteLULZ at the Billionaire Whitebread Princess doing a gang sign.
ReplyDeleteIt's not being a yes-man. It's called "realizing that doing business requires diplomacy and doesn't allow you to just say whatever the fuck you want about whoever you want."
ReplyDeleteHHH was the taint of the Attitude Era, if we're choosing body parts to represent him.
ReplyDeleteFor me, the appeal of Sting of in WWE was less about the man himself and more about what he represents: the last WCW original marching into enemy territory. Once that happens, his appeal diminishes immediately, so you better get the most you can out of the debut and his first few appearances. WWE failed to do that, and now here we are: two middle-aged men pointing at signs and trying to suck in their guts.
ReplyDeleteI'm not overly hyped on it, I just think it's going to happen.
ReplyDeletePretty much. You're not gonna job Sting at WM, so why not put him in the ring with a guy who's guaranteed to get the best he can out of him? HHH has probably had a half-chub since confirming that he'd be wrestling his hero's rival and WM30 (and the following shows) proved that HHH can be awesome in the ring when he's motivated (something we've always known, but is really evident now that he can pick and choose to wrestle only the matches where he IS motivated).
ReplyDeleteThe first two house shows I ever went to were at the Ohio Center. The first one there was an elderly gentleman sitting behind me who would yell "BAWLLLLL" after every. Single. Bump. It's burned into my head now.
ReplyDeleteI strongly suspect that this might be another wacky "insider work", but if as someone suggested Brock Lesnar had an issue over PPV/Network revenue ala Punk...WOW.
ReplyDeleteHear that sound? The chickens are coming home to roost.
How do you not recognize that as the Four Horsemen hand gesture made at the 4 MMA fighters at ringside who were guests of hers and jokingly call themselves the Four Horsewomen?
ReplyDelete"Wager equality"??
ReplyDeleteIf these chicks want to waste their money gambling like the men, then I say let them!!
It definitely could be an angle. However, Stephanie being so embarrassingly clueless as to commend someone for standing up for wage equality for women while at the same time the company she runs having a long history of treating women employees unfairly could very well be a shoot. This is the same person that managed to compare the steroid trials to 9/11.
ReplyDeleteThe D is what AJ will be going home too.
ReplyDeleteHey! In WWE the divas are SMART, SEXY and POWEFUL! That's why they sometimes get whole minutes to strut their stuff during a three-hour show! And why the two most recent diva hall-of-famers performed in such empowering segments as "Trish Barks Like Dog For Old Man" and "Lita Has Live Sex Celebration"! #useyourvoice
ReplyDeleteAnd if there's a problem, Brock's fists usually solve it.
ReplyDeleteSolve it to DEATH.
He needs that win back!
ReplyDeleteIf Brock DOES walk out, in theory, COULD Seth Rollins cash in the MiTB case for the vacant belt, and become the champ by forfeit?
ReplyDeleteIt WOULD set up Reigns/Rollins....
He only does it when he rolls in the ring and taps himself out, like at WM20.
ReplyDeleteI just don't care about sting or taker anymore. It is like Harley Race in 1990 WWF. I thought he was just some old wrestler who can't go anymore not a 7-time world champion.
ReplyDeleteUnless they can still put on a good match or be a mentor to the new guys (like dutch mantell), then just retire.
Which worries me...memories of HHH being the designated WCW Killer throughout 2003.
ReplyDeleteHoping AJ gets the Diva farting gimmick.
ReplyDeleteWasn't even looking at the crowd, and it looked like she was trying to cross her fingers and flip her hand, as a gangster would. Maybe it's because NONE of the Horsemen (not even Roma) held the sign up in such a....horrible manner, but yeah, I missed that. Sorry.
ReplyDeleteGuess buttfucking Flair's legacy is a shared interest with her and Triple Poochie.
I don't know about you, but my lifelong dream was to watch HHH pin each and every one of my childhood heroes. That dream is almost complete now... Now if only He-Man would sign a contract with the WWE.
ReplyDeleteLike how WCW vs. WWF being easy money stopped the InVasion from being a vanity angle?
ReplyDeleteLOL
ReplyDeleteYou're hilarious. Live the gimmick, brother.
Like a, um....Slim Jim?
ReplyDeleteI know what I've seen of him over the past few decades, and if THAT behavior is ANY indication, he's so far up his own ass that he's living in his own intestines.
ReplyDeleteTherefore, I can honestly say that I could see him pulling a stunt like that.

We hear you. Keep watching. #GiveDivasAChance
Mania 32
ReplyDeleteSting/Taker
Bryan/HBK
Austin/Punk
Lesnar/Rock
None of those will happen but it's fun to pretend like they could. If they wanna sell out Jerry World, then that's the kind of card they need.
Didn't Piper try that in the WCW feud with Hogan? "They wouldn't have loved you so much if they hated me so much"?
ReplyDeleteIt did to me. But whatever.
ReplyDeleteI prefer Bad Dudes crap to Vigilante crap. (The Skinheads are taking Madonna to their hideout...)
ReplyDeleteWhat's Brian Lee doing?
ReplyDeleteVince: You want divas? I'll give you divas goddammit!!! Pat, call Mae Young!
ReplyDeleteHHH: Uh, Vince, uh, it's Paul
Vince: Paul, call Mae Young!!
HHH: Uh, Vince, she's dead.
And honestly does Austin really need WWE? Sure he could lose podcast money but he has his CMT stuff and he can get gigs wherever. It's like saying Hogan or Rock need to suck up. They don't. I think Austin is legit friends with them and doesn't really care about this shit I just wish he did. We've seen Vince on legit interviews and it's hysterical (see the HBO interview).
ReplyDeleteOTOH I wouldn't call DX totally useless. You had teens and kids doing the "suck it" and all that. So they were over...
ReplyDeleteIf Brock left, how do they get the belt off him? Fictitious title change in Rio de Janeiro?
ReplyDeleteI don't think it's an angle. If they're gonna work in real life stuff with AJ, the Punk stuff is the way to go. Suggesting that the company discriminates against it's female employees for real would be beyond dumb. There's no money to be made in a Steph/AJ program (or any program where Steph wrestles) anyway so I dont think it's a storyline. Also, I think AJ is part-being insubordinate and part-sticking up for women wrestlers. She probably respects the NXT female wrestlers who will be the next wave of shit-on "divas".
ReplyDeleteOh shit, they're gonna start dressing Roman as a girl and give him both the World and Divas Titles. ALL HAIL RONDA REIGNSY!
ReplyDeleteThat is so funny they require vetting. I've inteviewed politicians, etc and Karl Rove of all people had no issue with anything I asked including some uncomfortable stuff. The questions being vetted were to prepare responses not censor questions. Leave it to WWE to turn an interview into a charade.
ReplyDeleteThe reason it might be a work is it's still up there. I assume with WWE has access to the Twitter accounts they promote. If they wanted AJ to take something down and she was insubordinate, they'd just do it for her.
ReplyDeleteYou had me at "shit on divas" #orton #gymbags
ReplyDeleteHuh. Lesnar has private plane money?
ReplyDeleteWhat, is Reigns too tan?
ReplyDeleteSince when has "It would be beyond DUMB" ever stopped a McMahon?
ReplyDeleteThe WCW vs WWF angle they're going with is sort of a natural fit for HHH/Sting. And no, that doesn't mean HHH is better than Taker, Austin, or Rock. But he's the one who can still wrestle decently in 2015 and has actually been around in a role where he represents the company.
ReplyDeleteTaker/Sting would be an ugly match. And the face-vs-face dynamic would suck, too. I don't know why it's considered a "dream match".
I'd much rather see Cena/Taker or Cena/Sting than any of the above, but yeah. Rusev.
That's a good point. But once something's tweeted, it's out there whether it's deleted or not. I think they're just gonna leave it up and deal with it....by painting her as a butt-hurt crybaby like Punk.
ReplyDeleteYeah, fair enough, but I don't have to like it.
ReplyDeleteNo they weren't useless at all...but Austin was the V8 engine pulling that company past WCW and revisionist history is really minimizing him in favor of DX.
ReplyDeleteSting needs to be carried.
ReplyDeleteUndertaker needs to be carried.
The ship of those two wrestling each other and putting on a passable match has sailed.
Stopped them? That's the phrase on their family crest!
ReplyDeleteWWE already beat WCW. I hope they do the right thing and put Sting over at Mania. Don't punk Sting out just to prove a point.
ReplyDeleteWould be pretty hilarious if Brock leaves and then Vince is all "Hey Pal" to Bryan and Bryan's response is "You already devalued me at FastLane you can't expect me to fight Roman again at Wrestlemania?" This whole situation is a mess if true and is pretty ominous for Roman Reigns. Nothing they do is working out pertaining to his big moment.
ReplyDeleteAre you a bad enough dude to rescue the president?
ReplyDeleteAssuming it is a work (which I don't think it is because it's too smart), they could do a lot worse than to give one diva the feminist gimmick. They'd have a lot of material to work with, it would expand their stable of female characters beyond "crazy", "teasing lesbian", "colossal mean girls bitch", "slut". It's an actual serious gimmick that could be good the company's reputation and might make good TV.
ReplyDeleteWhich is why this isn't a work and they wouldn't do it. Because you can't do this gimmick in 45 second spurts so there's no room for it in WWE's 38 hours of weekly programming.
That's brilliant, enough of this The Vigilante nonsense, make him King Sting!
ReplyDeleteSteph just tweeted at AJ thanking her for expressing her opinion. What a heel move!
ReplyDelete6 weeks behind?
ReplyDeleteMore like 6 decades, pal!
Plus, they would only torpedo it into the stereotypical "angry femi-Nazi" that Rush Limbaugh always spouts off about anyway.
ReplyDeleteThe problem is that they'd make it a heel faction w/ a bunch of feminazis. Any criticism the WWE gets (no matter how fair and warranted) that gets turned in to an angle is only going to be used to show us how poor VKM is constantly under attack.
ReplyDeleteIt IS an auspicious start to his career as "the guy", I'll agree with you there.
ReplyDeleteI don't see where Punk acknowledged the tweet. Although he did cryptically reply to Samoa Joe, so I'm creating newz that Joe signed a deal with WWE
ReplyDelete6 weeks? Very charitable of you, sir.
ReplyDeleteIt worked for Hogan. Except in 2003.
ReplyDeleteWell, if this is a work, it makes perfect sense. AJ was rumored to be coming back when they had a good storyline in place for her, and what better storyline than to work with Nipple H!
ReplyDeleteAJ will vicariously live Punk's punishment! Glorious TV! Many ratings!
I'm surprised Dolph Xiggler wasn't fired and working for TNA for beating up Brovk Lednar at 30,000 feet
ReplyDeleteI am going to guess that a publicly-traded company is not going to work an angle that exposes them for treating women like shit in this current media environment.
ReplyDeleteI am also going to guess they will work it into an angle if/when AJ returns.
I want to see Hogan vs. Cena. If Hogan wasn't 161 -- that would have main eventers mania this year.
ReplyDeleteSo it's a battle of the old guys
ReplyDeleteSix Big Steph piledrivers ought to show that mark who's boss. What a mark - she cared about success in her field!
ReplyDeleteI thought for sure the Monday Night War ep that showed how each guy was the backbone of their respective company, was totally to set up a Mania encounter.
ReplyDeleteLess than two is more than two now? Math is hard.
ReplyDeleteYou'd think, but then again, this is the same publicly traded company that tried to turn Mark Henry into the Silverback and foresaw no real issue with that.
ReplyDeleteI'm waiting for the last promo from Adonis before he was fired.
ReplyDeleteTotal angle. Surprisingly they're actially running something current for once
ReplyDelete6 weeks behind pop culture? Try 6 years. This is the same Vince who thought Scott Hall was a genius for pitching the Razor Ramon gimmick in 1992 because he hadn't seen Scarface.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait for the WM video package where Sting claims this started back with the tank incident
ReplyDeleteI could be wrong, but AJ's tweet may have been deleted (or I could just be bad at twitter)
ReplyDeleteWhat is gained by Undertaker working WM at all unless it's with Sting or as a retirement match against Hunter or some other old timer?
ReplyDeleteIt's a chance that they were deleted.
ReplyDeleteDon't forget ending Pirate Paul Burchill just a few weeks before Pirates 2, the whole reason the gimmick was born to begin with
ReplyDeleteTo give Bray a nonexistent rub
ReplyDeleteAs Bob Holly what happens when you try and stiff Brock Lesnar
ReplyDeleteYou're bad at Twitter.
ReplyDeleteHit the "Tweets & replies" tab.
I think women tennis players should be paid the same as men at Grand Slams...provided they are willing to start playing three out of five set matches.
ReplyDeleteEqual pay for equal play.
When women are required to carry twenty minute segments and thirty minute matches, that's when they should receive equal pay.
I do agree with your former point. It's a gulf of difference between three set and five set matches. That said, Id be down for best of 5 considering the women's game is far more entertaining
ReplyDeleteI think the guy is VERY good with his money and leads a very minimalist lifestyle.
ReplyDeleteHe's probably mad he didn't get to wrestle Bryan.
ReplyDeleteI'd tune in just to see if Serena could make it through a 5 set match without dying on the court.
ReplyDeleteI have zero issue with women being paid equally for equal work, but please, for the love all things good and holy, don't let this lead to the Bellas having to prove how "good" they are in the ring. Or worse: letting them talk about how good they really are. I watched every week in 1995 and I don't think I can survive any more focus on those two nitwits.
ReplyDeleteReally though if there's no Brock, won't they just go with Cena then?
ReplyDeleteTheir fucking VP has a history of racist comments and inappropriate behavior (taking an employee to a bar on her FIRST DAY back with the company after rehab??!!) and he's still fully employed with all the benefits.
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised Big Steph wrote or said anything without saying "WWE Universe" 5 times.
ReplyDeleteLolol AJ vs Stephanie at Mania. Shaping up to be a great card! ....
ReplyDeleteNo, because they weren't
ReplyDeletehttps://twitter.com/stephmcmahon/status/570434409981194240
ReplyDeleteYeah, the dirtsheets have mentioned recently how the main roster gals are jealous and annoyed by the NXT women getting good ring-time to show their wares. All I could think was: "That better be Paige and Natalya who are annoyed because if the Bellas start pushing for fifteen minute matches..."
ReplyDeleteSlavery is freedom. War is peace.
ReplyDeleteSting / Vampiro was one of my favorite feuds!
ReplyDeleteIt wouldn't have been very good at any point.
ReplyDeleteWith Stephanie going over, of course, to boost her undefeated streak in recent years to 3-0!
ReplyDeleteThey are? Then what, are HHH and Wyatt wrestling each other?
ReplyDeleteThat's right, WWE! Run a storyline about how you mistreat female wrestlers and consider them a joke because THAT will pop a rating!
ReplyDeleteYeah, that "wage equality" argument in tennis was dumb. "We play two fewer sets but demand more $$$!"
ReplyDeletePrior to Isner/Mahut, the longest professional tennis match in history was a 6+ hour ladies match where the girls kept hitting moonballs at each other. One rally went 643 shots.
ReplyDeleteIt might have exceeded Isner/Mahut had it gone to a third set.
I liked that gimmick. Unfortunately, Vince didn't get it.
ReplyDelete"That said, Id be down for best of 5 considering the women's game is far more entertaining"
ReplyDeleteWhat?
I was easily able to read this in Cole's voice, well done.
ReplyDeleteProbably misses his old glasses.
ReplyDeleteHe can wrestle the belt and do a match like when Ric Flair dropped a bunch of elbows on a WCW magazine with Sting in it.
ReplyDeleteSend a camera crew with Seth to Brock's Abode in Minnesota where Seth has to attempt to legit knock out and pin Lesnar and escape with the belt. Would be the best Raw ever. And probably spawn it's own reality show. "BROCK SMASH INVADER TIME".
ReplyDeleteThe three set vs five argument is a red herring since its all about money.
ReplyDeleteIf the punters are willing to pay as much to watch a three set women's
final as they are a five set men's final then pay the women as much.
Where Bray loses. I love when guys give back to the biz....
ReplyDeleteWWE didnt beat anybody, it was WWF. If it was WWE vs WCW, WCW wouldve put Vince and Steph out of biz...
ReplyDeleteThat's next year's match. A gauntlet featuring He-Man, Optimus Prime, Flint and whoever the main dude from MASK was. A My Little Pony does a run in only to get pedigreed by Aurora.
ReplyDeleteTo be fair, at his best HHH was good to great and he could still go last year.
ReplyDeleteHey! Cover that up with spoiler tags! There are still people on here who can't put 2 and 2 together!
ReplyDeleteYeah that's pretty much it. WWE.com listed Taker vs. Sting as a dream match a short while back. I would think they would do it if both men were upon for it. But they aren't.
ReplyDeleteYou know, its pretty obvious that thumb is not on the pulse of what the IWC wants. I get that. But I'm going to take a stab in the dark and guess that there MIGHT be entertainment gained from it. What more do you want?
ReplyDeleteTaker vs. Sting isn't just a goth vs. goth thing. Taker has always stayed with WWF/E. Sting has always stayed with WCW. They are icons of their respective companies.
ReplyDeleteBody double and cgi him into every RAW
ReplyDeleteIn what will be an absolutely terrible match too. It would be one thing if Wyatt jobbed to someone like Jericho, at least people could say "yeah, he lost, but that was a GREAT match". That's not the case here.
ReplyDeleteAre you sure it's not Roman confused?
ReplyDeleteOh, gee, is it time for Stephanie McMahon to put herself over another wrestler with absolutely no comeuppance on her end?
ReplyDeleteSteph should win with the gts.
ReplyDeleteMatt Trakker was the head of MASK.
ReplyDeleteIt vaguely worries me that I knew that instantly. Hahah!
Reminds me of a drunk guy we sat by at a pwg show in 2005. Prior to each match he kept yelling to the wrestlers "Do it for Bruiser Brody!" Can't hear Brody's name without thinking about that.
ReplyDeleteOr "Ring Sting" - then he can be gross enough to be a Total Divas storyline!
ReplyDeleteThe only person to get over on Steph was Vickie Guerrero.
ReplyDeleteMean Mark Callous was in WCW first, was he not? Or am I misremembering?
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I'd prefer the men just play 3 sets.
ReplyDeleteThey should have never split the Wyatts. Then you could have Taker and Sting v The Wyatt Family. Protects both guys a bit, but lets them both interact while neither has to lose. Then if they're fit, they have a one-on-one in Texas where they both retire and get a gigantic ovation.
ReplyDeleteA mate of mine has a theory. Taker beats Wyatt at wm, then lights go out and sting appears in the ring, points to next year's wm sign, then taker does the throat cutting gesture to accept and they do a year long build.
ReplyDeleteThat would be the PG version of Austin invading Pillman's home.
ReplyDeleteHHH vetted that Chyna question? Really?
ReplyDeleteRemember that AJ cited the NXT women during her Slammys speech last December, not any of the Divas on the actual roster (save for Paige). I suspect her days of trying to put over the Bellas are over.
ReplyDeletePatricia Arquette for special guest referee!
ReplyDeleteWhat's really the point of having an Undertaker/Sting match aside from the trainwreck appeal?
ReplyDeleteTaker can't go anymore, we've seen it last year against Lesnar, and Sting is also in no shape to carry a match. It would be the quintessential Dream Match indeed, the one that can't possibly live up to its hype, and just leaves everybody disappointed (I waited 15 years for this?!).
This generation of wrestlers needs a 'Plane Ride From Hell'.
ReplyDeleteFluttershy is the Pony most likely to lie down for Aurora, which'll lead to Aurora defeating Princess Celestia at SummerSlam when Rainbow Dash turns on Celestia. Because turning the Pony with the element of Loyalty heel is what's Best for Business.
ReplyDeleteI'm not worried at all that I knew that instantly.
I've been watching the AWA documentary on the Network, and I'm starting to wonder how much of HHH's wrestling every reasonably hot act in the last two years is because of HHH's ego, and how much is HHH being one of only two guys that Vince trusts. Has Vince just caught the "family only" booking disease that so many of the old territorial bookers fell victim to?
ReplyDeleteActually, they aren't.
ReplyDeleteThis is Vince's response to that new-fangled "suffrage" thing. He'll be damned if they get the right to vote!
What's the point of having an HHH/Sting match aside from the trainwreck appeal? taker can't go anymore, we've seen it last year against Lesnar, and HHH is also in no shape to carry a match. It can't even be called a Dream Match, as of all the WWF/E guys who could have gone against Sting, HHH would be WAY down the list? They wanna give Sting a one-off Mania match against an older WWE part-timer? Fuck Undertaker and HHH. What about Sting-Rock? At least there'd be one guy in that match who can still move faster than slow-motion.
ReplyDeleteIt worked for Colin "Bomber" Harris.

Nikki Bella is likely the most vocal, from what I can tell from her posted on Twitter and Instagram. The Bella twins' mom (basically the Kris Jenner of wrestling) has been Tweeting about it too lately.
ReplyDeleteRock would be a better option indeed (even if nonsensical), and I'd say that, though Sting/HHH has no Dream Match appeal whatsoever, the Big Nose will still do a better job of carrying oldman Sting than Taker can possibly do.
ReplyDeleteIt's like so many have said already, the time for Sting coming to WWE to have Dream matches should have been 10 years ago. They should have just brought him for the Hall of Fame, maybe endorse some young guy too, and be done with it.
Its a work. Stirring up the internet for a bit of interest and news.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if Vince is a Limbaugh fan. That would explain alot.
ReplyDeleteWatching the Network right now...they're doing their Wrestlemania Rewind of WM18.
ReplyDeleteWhatever it is...Undertaker vs Sting, Triple H vs Sting...it ain't gonna be Hogan vs Rock at WM18.
That crowd is crazy into everything.
This is very true. The non-HBK version was essentially a very over mid card act and you could even argue Triple H was the least over of them all. Austin and to a lesser extent McMahon, Foley and later Rock are the ones who turned the tide. HHH did get very good and very over later on - 2000 to be precise.
ReplyDeleteNow the first DX on the other hand - while only lasting a few months - was edgy, groundbreaking and main event (it helped they actually had a Main Eventer in the group then) and certainly helped usher in the change but even then nowhere near the same level as Austin.
I think they should. Bring in some international talent to make it special too. I'm thinking The Bella Twins vs Meiko Satomura and unretire Sarah Del Rey, I'm sure as they are real wrestlers they will be able to handle a few stiff shots from the Fury kicking queen and Death Rey. Seriously though the Bellas have been wrestling for a long time now, they have access to some of the greatest performers in history and are each in a relationship with the guys that have proven themselves as main eventers, yet I can find women with less than a year's experience better on every level wrestling in leisure centers on a part time basis.
ReplyDeleteThat's pretty much what I think will happen. Once Sting puts over Taker, he's pretty much done in WWE. But doing a feud with Triple H first, where Sting wins is better to set up for next year's match with Taker.
ReplyDeleteI can see the reasoning. Sting has to really win being his first Mania and all and Taker, who only came off the biggest loss of his career in his last match, can't really lose to a guy older than him - plus you'd risk the crowd turning on Sting (in favour of WWE's huge babyface Taker) which you don't really want. HHH can easily eat the loss.
ReplyDeleteThe more I think about it, the more I think they really could have eliminated so many problems by having a big multi man tag match as the Main Event. It would have helped if they'd not used the stupid "Authority goes away" stipulation at Survivor Series.
Sting/Taker/Bryan vs HHH/Kane (yes it makes sense due to history with Taker) and Rollins. Let Rollins and Bryan do the majority of the work, Sting and Taker come in for big spots and have HHH or Kane take the pin. You could even add Big Show to make it a handicaped match if needs be.
You'd keep everybody happy that way with Bryan being the one to put the Authority out for good and him and Rollins getting the huge rub of a Mania Main Event.
Brock and Reigns could do their thing second to top and you could easily do Orton vs Wyatt, Cena vs Rusev etc
But that's gone now.....
I know it's bad but I keep thinking of a Sean Lock joke
ReplyDelete"They say a Woman's work is never done, maybe that's why they get paid less."
In a way you do have to give the Bellas credit. Only a few years ago they were out of WWE and I doubt a single viewer missed them. Then they return, hook up with Main Eventers and suddenly they're the two prominent women (discounting Big Steph) on the show AND given a reality show where, again, they are the stars. Pretty impressive for two women who aren't particularly talented and seem like they're probably total assholes.
ReplyDeleteAnd Vince, in that disturbing, horrible match they had.
ReplyDeleteCould you tell in the promo he was getting canned? I don't remember. All I remember is just seeing one promo post WMIII with him bald.
ReplyDeleteI liked Craig DeGeorge for some reason. Wish he had stuck around longer.
ReplyDeleteShe's probably going to ride that til Aurora Rose goes over to end "the only Streak that matters" at WrestleMania 50
ReplyDeleteI am fine with that.
ReplyDeleteEverything Stephanie says comes across as so insincere, even outside the ring and even in that initial Tweet. Standard WWE celebrity butt licking
ReplyDeleteRead Bob's book and you'll see that story isn't true.
ReplyDeleteAwesome book it is too, BTW
Two things I'd find hilarious:
ReplyDeleteBrock just literally not turning up on the day of Wrestlemania.
Or
Brock being "uncooperative" in the main event, in a Bruiser Brody/Lex Luger sense.
There's nothing wrong with having all these part-time legends clogging up Wrestlemania every year. It's just like when I was a kid, when Bruno Sammartino wrestled at WM6, WM7 and WM8 in feature matches
ReplyDeleteAhem
For those that didn't read the rumour on Reddit:
ReplyDeleteMods: You can PM me if you feel the absolute need to get some certification out of this as to my identity as long as that remains between you and me. I'll try and respond as promptly as possible but I am out the door when I finish posting this. I should be back a little after midnight PT. If I don't reply immediately I'll respond in the morning before again I head out.
Here is the full story from what I have been told from a very reliable source. First, Brock Lesnar was not expected to put over Roman Reigns on the microphone nor was he expected to be part of the segment that featured Daniel Bryan and Paul Heyman putting Reigns over. Rather, Lesnar was expected to be a part of the main event. Lesnar's walkout occurred in the hour or so following the Bryan-Heyman-Reigns segment. It is this reason why literally nothing of particular note to Reigns occurred in the main event aside from the Bryan tag-in which the commentators quickly put over as a bit of retaliation of what happened pre-Fast Lane now that they're all buddy buddy (Bryan-Reigns).
Daniel Bryan was made aware of the situation before he cut his promo. Before Bryan did the professional thing that was required of him, putting Reigns over, you can clearly see much more intensity in the promo. That was the makings of a very good promo. It was also cut straight from the hip from a guy who feels legitimately robbed of his main event status at Wrestlemania for the chosen one who really fucked up in a pretty big way. Reigns failed the WWE's drug testing policy. The higher ups in the WWE were made aware of Reigns's failure early Monday morning.
Clearly all involved are very disappointed in Reigns. It has brought back discussion of Jeff Hardy's drug test failure prior to Wrestlemania XXIV where it was highly likely that he was to win his first championship (which was delayed until Armageddon in December). Many feel that Reigns should be forced to forfeit his position at Wrestlemania and take the suspension. However, Vince McMahon is backing "his boy" and made the decision not to suspend him as there is more than 30-days to go before Wrestlemania.
However, given the current situation in the UFC with the steroids controversy, Brock Lesnar is beyond infuriated with that decision. His legitimate fear is that should he choose to return to the UFC, quite likely given the money that Dana is offering, his Wrestlemania main event status against Roman Reigns links him directly to failed drugs tests in the media. It's a guilty by association issue for Brock and a perfectly understandable one. Lesnar has demanded that Reigns be replaced preferably with Daniel Bryan or John Cena, both of whom he is happy to put over given their popularity. Lesnar does not particularly care if the much smaller Bryan were to defeat him - it's a non-issue due to the known 'scripted' nature of professional wrestling - as it wont effect his UFC reputation. Again, Vince McMahon has said that Reigns would not be replaced in the main event of Wrestlemania. Lesnar walked out.
Push Bryan dammit.
ReplyDeleteHoly crap. If it's true about Reigns failing the drugs test this is beyond hilarious
ReplyDeleteStoryline CLEARLY. Isn't about sting and hhh. Has wcw ever gone over wwe?
ReplyDeleteYou'd lose your house....who says it's his only match? There is a lot of time till next year's hof
ReplyDeleteI think HHH vs The Rock couldn't be that bad.
ReplyDeleteWM5 it was Bobby Heenan, WM6 and 7 it was Jimmy Snuka. ;) At WM8 it was Roddy Piper. At WM9 it was Hogan and Beefcake, at WM10 it was Macho Man, WM11 it was Bob Backlund and King Kong Bundy, WM12 it was Piper again and I think WM13 was the first Wrestlemania without an old part-timer since WM4 or so.
ReplyDeleteAnd everyone still takes a piss during
ReplyDeleteAwesome post.
ReplyDeleteI'd be damn surprised if this is true but good lord if it is...
ReplyDeleteThat chant actually happening would be glorious. Three straight hours of sign chant.
ReplyDeleteWhen the total combined age of the performers is over 100, the match is a no go.
ReplyDeletewait what? Please explain
ReplyDeleteI can't say for sure, but I doubt WWE has access to the Twitter accounts of all of its performers. That's way more work than they want to do & they can just threaten to fire someone who won't take down a tweet
ReplyDeleteThose guys listed are all full members of the roster, and on the whole we're doing the right thing by using their status to put people over. Hogan is the exception, and he'd only been out of the company a year and wrestled full time (ish) for another decade. None of that is really comparable to what the WWE does today with Rock, Taker, HHH, Sting. Putting them in feature matches at WM for their only match all year
ReplyDeleteDavid better make a few guest appearances as well.
ReplyDeleteIt probably was, but they had that series put together back in 2011 for what they thought would be the imminent launch of the Network.
ReplyDeleteI said it's a chance. Never said they were.
ReplyDelete
