WWE Made Last Minute Changes to the WWE Title Match?
According to PWInsider.com, and this was prior to the main event, the WWE was concerned about Reigns as the champion would be a bigger issue with the fans than having him lose his first WrestleMania main event. There was also a belief in the company that if they put the title on him too soon that it would hurt Reigns in the long run to the point that he would never be able to recover. They also reported that there was talk about last minute changes to the creative plan of the match.

Problems Between Steve Austin and WWE?
Austin was originally scheduled to attend WrestleMania last night but ended up not making it to the show and there was word going around that it was due to an issue he had with Vince McMahon, possibly about using his podcast on the Network.

Trips' at 27 may just be the greatest entrance ever.
ReplyDeleteShe must love that we're in the era of "a guy can't even blink the wrong way at a woman". Jericho got over huge just on the basis of calling her a trashbag ho who'd been with every dude in the locker room and her shocked and indignant reaction. Now she'd just say "Chris, that's a disgusting and hurtful thing to say to a woman" and no sell it.
ReplyDeleteReigns can still be salvaged
ReplyDeleteLOL
I think its like when a Momma is so fat that it takes two trips to haul ass.
ReplyDeleteBest part of the night: Brock says to Roman, "Suplex City, BITCH", and suddenly #suplexcity becomes the number one worldwide trend on Twitter. Just awesome.
ReplyDeleteAnd am I the only one who finds dark, brooding crow-Sting screaming like bouncing bleach blonde colorful babyface Sting something of a paradox?
Pretty damn good show overall, even if Rousey didn't break Steph goddamn arm.
Yeah, for all the talk of him looking like he drank from the wrong Grail in Indiana Jones/Last Crusade, he looked and moved like same old Taker. He should've shaved his head, though, that hairline is getting to Scarred Kane levels.
ReplyDeleteHe can be. I think people really do want to cheer for him, just not when he's getting the silver-spoon treatment. Either with a heel turn or a better booked face run, he can still be a valuable major player for them.
ReplyDeleteAlso, when they threw up the Suplex City trending graphic, it definitely gathered some steam as a chant. Hopefully it will catch on.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I didn't like the NWO being in Sting's corner. (Ignore tomato face wolfpack Sting for a moment). Hogan and Sting were arch enemies, Hall and Nash are friends with HHH (must be known by non internet fans too right?) It should have been DDP, Booker T, and Flair like you said. Flair was right there.
ReplyDelete"Oh sure, they bring that move back after 12 years and it’s for JOHN FUCKING CENA?"
ReplyDeleteHe did a kinda-sorta, slingshot type of stunner. How's that any different than the variations R-Truth, of all people, has done?
cheers to Sting for being involved in both the Robocop and Terminator crossover promotions... legendary
ReplyDeleteI loved the show and good lord was that stadium huge.
ReplyDeleteBlo bun bis bighteous - bot beven bun.
ReplyDeleteWho is your favorite Met?
ReplyDeleteThey really should call JR for advice. The Undertaker entrance was the worst, just let it soak in and let him tell the story himself.
ReplyDeleteInteresting, it was my first trip to Levi's and I was surprised that it felt kinda intimate for a full-scsle arena; maybe because it's really tall (the pre-show panel was way up there). The staff there was great, helpful and friendly, but the concession stand I went to during the concert ran out of water and Gatorade, which seems like a really big gaffe considering it was really sunny and presumably a lot of people were drinking.
ReplyDeletei have lost all hope buddy. watch tomorrow's night raw if you want to see how much a man can be hated
ReplyDeleteBrock & Ambrose
ReplyDeletevery unlikely in near future.
ReplyDeleteI CAN
ReplyDeleteI WILL
That Rollins would cash in during the match?
ReplyDeleteYa Big Dummy
ReplyDeleteMaybe it was just tall or due to it being day time. It looked huge on TV.
ReplyDeleteThey should have brought him in just for Goldberg in '03.
ReplyDeleteIt was awesome! Only thing that would have made it better is if Piper then three-stooges poked Flair in the eyes
ReplyDeleteThe Ronda segment went perfect, and call me crazy but I agree with the Big Show winning the battle royal.....have to keep at least SOME credibility if a) Hes going to be "the favorite" in every battle royal/Royal Rumble - when is the last time he actually WON a Battle Royal? WCW World War 96? - and b) If they are going to push him as a heel (for now) every week on RAW anyway
ReplyDeleteLook on the bright side: The LESS of 50 year old Corporate Kane we see, the better
ReplyDeleteWildfire Tommy Rich?
ReplyDeleteThe "geek" terminology around here is pretty silly, not that it's a big deal. "That guy isn't a strong character in wrestling, I bet he plays dungeons and dragons and wears a pocket protector at home!"
ReplyDeleteAny way, seems like a pretty good show... I was watching the replay and skipping around because I got home late and was intoxicated so I haven't seen the main event or half of the HHH/Sting match (I fell asleep, not from boredom).
I know I'm in the minority but I don't like the idea of building up a WM main event between two guys and it ending with a third guy winning. It's fine for any other show but lame for WM. They should have just had Brock win.
ReplyDeleteAre we just gonna overlook that X-Pac/Syxx was at least as equally closely affiliated with nWo than DX?
ReplyDeleteSurprised they weren't busy focusing on serious shit like Who's showering with Michael Sam? Or reporting that there's ABSOLUTELY NOTHING happening with Adrian Peterson
ReplyDeleteI see Scott's point....probably would have worked better if there was some sort of screwy false finish, and the match was re-started - THEN Rollins came out with the briefcase
ReplyDeleteThere's just no comparison: The Ambrose hologram thing was pretty stupid. If they were going to do that, it would have been good for a RAW main event, not a PPV.
ReplyDelete"Quietly frankly nobody cares if R-Truth uses the Stunner. People can't see him in the dark arena's anyway, which is why he needs to dance more."
ReplyDeleteYea that was pretty good.....and good for them for not stopping the match to treat the wound, or nothing stupid like they have done before....adds to the match.
ReplyDelete(.......crickets.....)
ReplyDeleteI'm interested in watching the show on the Network and seeing how the show looked in broad daylight. It was a really cool look throughout.
ReplyDeleteA man can be hated and still get turned around. Like his cousin; he's no Rock on the stick but he has things he brings to the table that can get folks behind him.
ReplyDeleteBahaha, I didn't even mean that. Well done.
ReplyDeleteIt's not like Rollins came out of nowhere, though. It might not've been hyped up that overtly but he was definitely a known possibility to leave as champion. I was on the fence about it as as a WrestleMania ending myself because I thought it was a strong possibility, but the way it played out I absolutely loved it.
ReplyDeleteHe was playing a character which was supposed to be "hip to the room," but it came off as poor play-by-play instead.

The ending of the main event was amazing. Even though many of us suspected how it would end, it was incredible. Also, anyone who has the opportunity to go to one of these live, please do so. It's so much more incredible doing the live experience even rewatching it on TV hours later was not as cool as having been there.

I'm thinking Big Show would be the perfect squash victim for a newly-reinvested, harder-edged Roman Reigns. The guy Reigns couldn't put away decisively earlier in the year just gets unceremoniously destroyed by Roman, now a silent killer with a chip on his shoulder. Only viable use of Big Show at this point
ReplyDeleteIt would be really fun, especially if HHH was willing to make it his last match. You just KNOW he would love the revisionism of the three of those guys standing in the ring together for the last time while Cole/JBL scream about the "Three Icons of the Attitude Era"!!
ReplyDeleteSurprisingly, I think I'm in the minority in thinking that this was not a very good overall show.
ReplyDeleteThe ladder match didn't do anything for me. Admittedly, I'm a little over the "bunch of guys try and climb ladders" matches. There is just so little that hasn't already been done in those matches and there's no psychology or anything to them. I thought with a fairly fresh group of guys, for a match like that, they would leave us with something memorable. Didn't happen. **1/2 at best.
Orton/Rollins was a Raw main event, as we all expected it would be. Good work with a couple of good spots. ***
HHH/Sting started strong but once all of the interference began, the wrestling match was essentially over. The booking didn't make sense as the NWO involvement, consisting of guys who feuded with Sting throughout the whole angle and HHH's buddies, was a stretch. Also, Sting should've gone over, plain and simple. He was booked to look like a guy who didn't belong there, just as HHH has said all along. ** for what wrestling there was.
Divas were okay. About as good as you would expect. **
Cena/Rusev was decent as matches between these two are going to be about like what've seen, no more and no less. I liked the body of the match a little better than FastLane but the finish was not as prolific as it should've been, considering the guy was undefeated. Essentially a Raw distraction finish. ***
Rock/Rousey/Authority segment seemed out of place and took too long. Stephanie was great as usual, but, again, something like that with zero build or expectation at WrestleMania seemed out of place.
Wyatt/Taker was bad. Undertaker just doesn't need to be out there anymore. Yes, he looked in better physical shape than last year, but he moves and looks like an old man. Really a letdown performance considering this was placed right before the main event.
Reigns/Lesnar was great, and I could easily it going down as my favorite WM main event. The way the match unfolded up to the cash-in was almost perfect. The only thing I thought was a stretch was that it just took one ringpost shot to turn the tide after Brock had looked like he wasn't human up to that point. Minor and ultimately meaningless flaw as the cash-in was brilliant, made Seth look like a million bucks, allows for a Reigns rebuild without killing all of his credibility and the significance of his accomplishments, and keeps Brock as a monster that was taken advantage of. **** for the match. ***** for the booking.
You just know there is an urge for HHH & Steph vs. Brock & Rousey, with the McMahon contingent somehow winning to give Dana the finger.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite:
ReplyDeleteCrowd: USA! USA! USA!
Cena: I fight for the USA!
Crowd: BOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Rusev: I HATE CENA!
Crowd: YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!
Rusev: BUT I'M THE HEEL!
Crowd: YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!
Rusev: AMERICA SUCKS!
Crowd: Oh...uh...BOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
Rusev: But, Cena sucks, too!
Crowd: YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYY!
Rusev: But I still hate America!
Crowd: YAAA--,uh, BOOOOOOOOOO! USA! USA! USA!
*Sigh*...
Coach Buzz Stern wants a word with you.
ReplyDelete"Extreme Rules" 2015 ?:
ReplyDelete- Rollins vs. Orton, WWE Title, 'Extreme Rules'
- Reigns vs. Big Show (complete and utter squash by RR to reset him as Shield-era badass)
- Cena vs. Rusev, US Title, 'Last Man Standing'
- Bryan vs. Ziggler, IC Title, '2/3 Falls'
- BRC vs. Usos, TAG Titles
- Divas Junk
- NXT 10-Man Tag (Team Balor vs. Team Neville, before both guys end up on the main roster?)
- Barrett vs. Sheamus
Bye pal
ReplyDeleteAmbrose and Wyatt should both just go away from TV for a while. They will hopefully be hot(ter) again when they return
ReplyDeletenWo vs. DX tonight on Raw, with HHH turning on both and being touted as "bigger" than both and the real star of the Attitude Era???
ReplyDeletelos Matadores would probably do OK at NXT vs the Lucha Dragons, Vaudevillains, et al.
ReplyDeleteSo Global Force has TV tapings huh?
ReplyDeleteHe has plenty of DDP Yoga shirts to shill
ReplyDeletedoes Jushin Liger count?
ReplyDeleteIn my section, just about everyone was cheering for Rusev and there was even a Russia chant going at one point. I was sitting next to a kid who was probably 9 or 10 who cheered every single heel and it was so funny to me. His dad had a Reigns shirt on and he had a Brock shirt on. Future smark in the making.
ReplyDeletePretty much spot on with my recollection of the show being there live. I was excited to be able to go to a WM but I also knew the build up was horrid. Completely blew away my expectations and I marked out like a little kid who still thought it was real when Rollins cashed in. I was yelling "WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! PIN HIM!" to Seth after his first curb stomp to Brock when he went to look at Reigns on the outside. I'm 28 years old and I was jumping up and down like a child when he won, just an unbelievable end to a fantastic show.
ReplyDeleteAnd my day started off pretty great because Mick Foley was being carted around the parking lot and I got to fist bump him. He was my favorite WWE guy during the Attitude Era so that was like so awesome to my 12 year old self.
Even though I hate Show, I don't have a big (pun intended) problem with him winning. The battle royal win didn't do shit for cesaro anyways, so it doesn't really matter to me that mizdow lost. He still got a monster reaction. Plus, Show idolizes Andre and they probably gave it to him as a gift.
ReplyDeleteI feel that the reaction would've been better if he came back as American Badass Undertaker to freshen it up a bit. As it is it was just a normal lame everyday entrance.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't see a lot from the arena but was Reigns smiling through his whole beating? I definitely saw a few smiles, but didn't really understand why he was grinning while getting his ass beat. How did they sell it on tv?
ReplyDeleteEveryone in our section was just about the same. :)
ReplyDeleteI much prefer the Alex Lifeson HoF voice for fg's posts. "Blah blah... Bluh! Blah blahblah blaaah blah."
ReplyDeleteI suppose the "Grownups in Charlie Brown" voice would work for this as well.
He was trying to say, keep beating me, I don't care. You know, he tough. And he followed Paul Heyman's dictum; Theres Roman Reign who took an ass whooping like no other.
ReplyDeleteThat was called a "follow-up question" there, Skippy. Not replying to myself. But I see how you could be confused.
ReplyDeleteGuess we found fake Dougie again.
ReplyDeleteEven the dramatic entrance was a let down itself, no cool flourishes like the undead hands reaching out to him like last time.
ReplyDeleteWould have been a good segment if it weren't so long.... I wasn't timing it but my god, there was a stretch where no one said a word for an interminable amount of time. Instead of say 40 minutes, they could have done it in 15-20 max.
ReplyDeleteI thought the story they told in the match would help Reigns a little bit. Maybe it'll take some time. He didn't win but he took an ass beating and kept fighting. Plus he gave it to Brock, busting him open hard way early (plus Brock had quite the shinner forming on his cheek) and with the steel post shot blade job toward the end. And yes it was a blade job. On the Straight Shoot Podcast they were trying to say it was hardway. But it definitely was not. Brock had a Shawn Michaels like deft blade job but it was a blade job for sure.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I liked Reigns in this match. I just can't help but feel a heel turn would help re-create the badass persona. You mentioned the Rock, it was the heel turn that turned it around for him.
I don't agree with ALL of this, but I'm generally on-board with it. I thought the Rock/Rousey segment was waaaaaaay too long, especially for such a weak-looking payoff. And if the idea is to build toward something for WM XXXII, do that shit on Raw next March. Don't waste 20 minutes on an already overly-long show.
ReplyDeleteI did thoroughly enjoy HHH/Sting, although I think the wrong guy went over. Not a great match in the traditional sense, but the booking was perfect to disguise the limitations of the guys in the ring.
And Lesnar wrestling himself to a **** match was nothing short of incredible. That guy is worth every penny that they're paying him. Great booking here, too, as we're not only spared a Reigns reign, but Brock's eventual pinfall loss becomes a huge deal for someone...unless it's fucking Cena.
Taker/Edge rocked harder than it should have... and had a lot to live up to considering the drama that went on before it. There's no reason the crowd should have been that hot for the match... but Edge was just so damn good as a heel. He was very much under appreciated while he was active.
ReplyDeletePersonally I loved the main event, but I could take or leave the rest really. Not a bad show, but nothing really stands out. The HHH/Sting match was OK for what it was. The Rock/Stephanie segment was just death.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I didn't love it either. Sting/HHH had no stakes other than the vague Sting taking HHH down, and he failed. And it turned into a nostalgic Monday Night Wars thing, which was fun but more of an Old School Raw thing. Then HHH shakes his hand in one of those mutual respect moments they should have had backstage since HHH was full heel again an hour later for a talking segment to make the surprise appearance of a part timer (if that) a bigger deal than most of the roster. Undertaker comes back for his annual dye job in his old man pants which means nothing without the streak...and the main event has the monster heel cheered against the face, which they knew would happen based on months of crowd reaction, so their best option is to have a guy who wasn't in the match win....sums up what I don't like about their "writing".
ReplyDeleteAustin here
ReplyDeleteThe Rock/Stephanie segment would have been better if (1) it was 10 minutes shorter, and (2) Rousey had beaten the ever-loving shit out of Stephanie. Still, I was entertained.
ReplyDeleteRobocop vs Terminator!
ReplyDeletehttp://img1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20090428192238/terminator/images/b/bf/RobocopVTerminatorComic1.jpg
I tried listening to straight shoot a few times, can't get into it at all.
ReplyDeleteI can understand that. I don't love it or hate it. The host guys voice is kind of a annoying and he does seem like a WWE homer. But it's OK when there is nothing else to listen to. And it was the first post Wrestlemania podcast to come up. So there was that.
ReplyDeleteNice report. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteCool moment, way too long. SHIT payoff.
ReplyDeleteVince is all about the money. I'm assuming it is more profitable for him to do it this way then the other. I know how much we spent on our tickets (floor ringside row 13 for Wrestlemania and RAW), and we would not have spent that much for a regular RAW and probably most house shows or PPVs.
ReplyDeleteI was there too. Agree with everything you typed up. Great review/report.
ReplyDeleteFor some reason, Roman Reigns was WAY over in my section up in the cheap seats. Like, the people thought the match was real, kind of over. It was like something out of the Attitude Era or maybe even the territories in the old days. It was wild, especially considering how much he was booed elsewhere in the stadium. The beating Reigns took from Brock got him over even more in the section as a sympathetic underdog. Wild stuff.
I saw that Lana look a like. What a babe.
ReplyDelete
