Just the man I need. I have a very VERY serious problem that I think you are just the man to help me with.
We are moving to a much bigger and newer office building... I have a choice between 2 offices... one is much bigger than the other... but the smaller once is in a better place in the building with a better view. WHAT DO I DO?!?!?!?
Anybody ever play the Mat Dickie series of PC wrestling games? I reloaded Wrestling Encore from a CD after a computer crash a year or two ago and now I can't get the damn game pad to work with it.
Maybe 25% smaller... not really sure how to explain it. The smaller one is closer to an entrance where I can come and go as I please and is closer to the only attractive girl in the company... and the view is spectacular.
They both have private bathrooms... I mean we aren't savages.
Jake calling CM Punk's title reign the "Reign of Terror" is hilarious for all the wrong reasons.
Unlike Triple H's "Reign of Terror" new stars were made by being associated with Punk. AJ, Bryan, Ryback, and the Shield all got over by association during that "Reign of Terror".
Ok that's exactly where I was going with that. If they both have private bathrooms than take that smaller one dude. But to put some sizzle on that steak I'd absolutely try and act like I was doing a magnanimous thing by taking the smaller office. "Oh that is just so big, X should have it/it's just not for me/I'm a simple guy etc." Then you get the best of both worlds.
I know him as the guy who scolded me for calling profession wrestling art. I think he's just a troll. Fun avatar though. I was always a bullwinkle guy but Rocky makes for a fine avatar.
I think I started to not come to the site as much when the trolls seem to disappear...it's almost as if we started turning on ourselves and got more negative. (while trolls seem to unite people around here in the sense that there's a common enemy)
Yeah he had crazy charisma in Scott Pilgrim ("Chicken isn't vegan??") and here as Atom, but Returns gave him nothing to do. He would be a perfect Supes with the right script.
God, I can't imagine Patera ever actually being good. Admittedly my exposure is limited to stuff I've seen on the Network, but he's a cure for insomnia, even in his one or two '70s matches that are on there.
I need to see proof of this brilliant 78-82 run because all the stuff I've found on the Network involving him is godawful and boring (but then, so was most everyone in New York in the 70s it seems).
Did he have great matches/promos I can easily find?
I will re-watch the Owens-Zayn match. (That's a pretty good way to spend a Wednesday, frankly.)
One thing that might be coloring this is that they decided (wisely) that they didn't need to build up Owens with a Goldbergian number of squash matches. They managed to make him a credible monster with some non-match actions. Owens has only fought who he's had to fight to get (and keep) what he wants...and Alex Riley, who he just wanted to torment.
He's beaten the best (and Riley)...immediately. I think we're expected to accept Owens dominance as read.
That said...I totally agree with you that the booking has great. I like your reasoning for why Itami may be the guy to win.
Just keep him away from Baron Corbin. They'd have a pre-match staredown that would extend for two weeks worth of NXT episodes.
(Would Kevin Owens vs Samoa Joe be redundant or awesome?)
The first time I saw Ken Patera was at a house show in Charlotte in the spring or summer of 1978 when he took on Andre the Giant in a match that ended when Patera threw Andre over the top rope. Patera also had a pretty good feud with Tony Atlas over the Mid-Atlantic title in 1978. The other memories I have of Patera are breaking Billy White Wolf's neck and holding the Intercontinental and Missouri titles simultaneously.
I'm not saying that Owens is a joke or a coward. He's definitely a threat, but I appreciate that NXT has set it up so that any of their top guys is perfectly believable any of their other top guys. It's not Cena>Everyone Else. It's Sami/Finn/Adrian/Kevin at the top, with Itami/Corbin/Breeze right below them (and any of those secondary three could beat any of the main four given the proper circumstances without it looking like a fluke).
I appreciate what they've done with Owens because when he moves up to Raw, he won't need to slaughter everyone to look convincing. He can have close victories that make him look good without destroying the other guy. His heel heat comes just as much from his dickhead "Got a family, doesn't matter" gimmick and his petty cruelties as it does from him beating all the top faces. So when's floating in the mid-card, he won't be the Ascension who look like total goobers.
I've never really been a fan of monster showdowns. Owens and Joe both work better with smaller guys, in my experience. People who can bounce around for their big moves, and both of them can take the ranas and DDTs and other high-flying stuff (some big guys look awkward selling smaller peoples moves, these guys don't). Also, as neither one is very big they look outmatched by bigger guys when it comes to monster stuff. And can Owens even powerbomb Joe? I'd rather see Joe come in as a tweener and go up against Sami (as more of the "I can beat fat dudes" angle) or face Itami (as a continuation of the Kenta stuff).
And I'd love to hear what you think of the match and my read of it, so if after you watch it you want to respond, I'd be fine with waxing poetic about wrestling that makes me happy.
The 5/80 Texas Death Match against Backlund from MSG was the WON Match of the Year and deservedly so...which is saying something considering the visceral hatred the Observer readership had for Backlund. It's a top-5 or top-10 WWF Match of the '80s.
Your mileage may vary but I love the feats-of-strength contest from Mid-Atlantic between Patera and Tony Atlas. Patera is such an unbearable jerk--it's a wonder he was ever a babyface at all.
People think of the AWA as a stodgy, boring territory for old people, but Patera as the Olympian selling out to Adnan al-Kaissie was a huge, huge, HUGE heat-getter. As in, fans jumping the guardrails trying to get after him huge--especially after they topped that by piledriving Verne Gagne on the floor. The Sheiks vs. High Flyers matches are gold, seriously. Patera and Blackwell were a fine team, even if Blackwell was admittedly the workhorse.
MELINA VS ALICIA FOX

ReplyDeleteGot the tooth pulled today and I feel quite better. Why is that stuff they shoot you up with available at the drug store? It really should be.
ReplyDeleteNothing would ever get done.
ReplyDeleteJobber!

ReplyDeleteTrue, at one point last night I was thinking it wouldn't be bad to have Laurel be the free roamer between shows and bring Sarah back to Arrow
ReplyDeleteYAH YAH YAH YAH YAH!
ReplyDeleteShe is much better when they let her be less uptight. I think she will do well in the spinoff.

ReplyDeleteAlex Morgan is one of the most stupidly attractive people in the world right now.
ReplyDeleteTaking that guy seriously is in the same league as getting in arguments with youtube commenters.
ReplyDeleteRouth got a raw deal as Supes, he's good at the Reeves-Goofy-Charm-Supes
ReplyDeleteYou have got...A CLASSSSSS D LICENSE!

ReplyDeleteEven as a soccer fan, I give zero shit about womens soccer, but she is crazy hot. Dat Sports Illustrated body paint.
ReplyDeletefrom State Farm
ReplyDeleteI would respectfully date her and perhaps introduce her to my mother
