Enough is enough with this guy. At the very least they should strip him of the title before he self-destructs completely. I do think if nothing else they should delay the fight for a while and see how it shakes down for him from a legal standpoint. Apparently his magical 24 hours in rehab didn't work after all.
Not stripping him of the title is bullshit. If he can no longer handle the responsibility of being a champion, let someone else step up and take it. I don't care how big of a cash cow he is. At some point he becomes more of a liability than an asset.

ReplyDeleteNo I think he should be stripped and then either hold a tournament for the vacant title or have the top two contenders fight for the title. The whole division shouldn't suffer just because the champion fucked up.

Even with the RVD thing, who was really outraged? I'm sure the sponsors were worried but I doubt the average fan cares enough to get pissed off.

ReplyDeleteI think UFC fans will be happy if Jones loses his title and goes away. Not sure if he's much of a draw as he's kinda hated since he's got some douchey tendencies.

ReplyDeleteThe only time Jones has ever been in any danger (besides to himself) was against a guy who was his size, and Jones still won that fight decisively. Rumble is awesome, but until someone actually kicks Jones' ass, I'm not picking against him.
ReplyDeleteI'm not so sure about that. At all. Rumble has never been pushed like Jon has. I don't know how he'll react at 205 being put in the kinds of situations Jones would put him in.

Heels sell in MMA. That's the main reason Brock was such a draw.

A lot of people said Cormier would beat him, too, and he couldn't even put up a decent fight.
ReplyDeleteI'd hate to see this guy become a self-destructive bust, but I think training and fighting is keeping him together more than hurting him. Take that away, and you have a guy who likes to party with a lot of money and a lot of time on his hands. THAT is dangerous.

ReplyDeleteIf they do nothing (or slap him on the wrist again), the PR reaction could be nasty. They already have a bit of an image problem with the drugs and past criminal acts from the boys, and this would be a big glob of whip cream and cherries on the shit sundae.

ReplyDeleteFighters aren't role models. I honestly don't care. I don't understand why we expects guys whose claim to fame is being able to beat anyone else up better than anyone else in the world to live up to some sort of moral code. I wouldn't strip him of the belt no matter what (unless he is cheating and I dont count using cocaine as cheating), but society seems to disagree and seems to think fighters should be role models. Its BS in my opinion. Mike Tyson was awesome because he wasn't a role model.
