Went to a ballgame with my wife last night, so I just watched them this morning. Holy jumpin balls that was awesome. Arlovski turned back the clock (I will always root for that guy - he and I are the same age), Cerrone looked like a boss again, Chris Weidman shut Vitor Belfort up (which he deserved for that haircut alone), and although I would have liked to see Rumble win, DC seems like a good dude. Didn't like him talking shit about Jones, though. Jones whipped his ass fair and square.
Yeah. I figure Jones would destroy Cormier again, I'm not hyped for a rematch with those even if it's possible. I also wanted Johnson to win. Hoping Gusstafson wins his next fight and gets back in the picture.
That Arlovski fight was insane, as much as Browne was wobbling I still thought he'd come back and win because he was eating SO many shots and Arlovski just couldn't put him down. The guy's made out of titanium.
And I'm SO glad Belfuck got put away. For good hopefully. Enough of those TRT guys.
You know what's interesting about HoH? I've watched a couple of the weekly shows they've produced for Fight Network, and it's really not a hardcore show. I mean, it had Rhino on it, but he wasn't using chairs. And, the main on the first show was London/Kendrick vs. Bucks, which was closer to a ROH match than an ECW match.
Chris really took the high road after the fight, too. I'm not much for his "MURICA! JESUS!" stuff, but at least he was smart enough to clarify that he thanks Jesus for the good things in his life, not for winning the fight.
Given that Vitor's testosterone levels (while not high enough to trigger a flag) were wildly varying again (at one point he was 4 times as high as Weidman), I'd say he found something to do that he can hide.
Chris had every right to talk shit about that in the postfight interview, but chose not to. That was classy.
I always wanted TNA to be a similar alternative to the WWE and not something special like ECW. Just another competition so that the WWE has to be more creative than they had to be. Just like back then when WCW was there. Funny thing, (as far as I know) TNA exists not only longer than ECW but even longer than WCW (technically, if you only take the WCW name brand, not the NWA heritage). And from 2005 to 2010 TNA WAS IMHO better to watch than always the same HHH/Batista/Orton/Cena matches we had in the main event.
To compare it with ECW is a little bit unfair, because from the facts TNA was always better BUT from the heart ECW was something completely different.
Yeah, 05-06 was great, though there were warning signs like how much that Sting/Jarrett stuff was dragging out. When Russo was brought back after Bound For Glory 06, it was over. They had a few random periods after that where they recapture the greatness (the early 08 and late 09) but they squandered them.
Oh yeah, it's not strictly an ECW reunion show -- Dreamer does an excellent mix of different styles. Shane Douglas's "Extreme Reunion" series is more of a "sad collection of 40 year olds hitting each other with chairs", but I think he's no longer promoting those
Still, HoH has a little bit of ECW fumes powering it.
A TNA reunion show would just be Kurt Angle and the like doing WWE nostalgia shows. That's the problem with TNA - aside from the X-Division heydays of 04-06 they have no identity.
Homicide was in Ring of Honor years before TNA. Suicide was portrayed by Low Ki (voice), Kazarian, Daniels and Manik... I guess Kazarian is a quasi-TNA-original but the rest had been in promotions like PWG and ROH that offered not much less exposure to the Only-On-PPV-era TNA. I'm not sure which one Punk showed up in first, he debuted in both ROH and TNA at around the same time.
Either way, it kind of pales in comparison to a list that contains Mysterio, Guerrero, Jericho, Malenko, etc.
The man has no personality. I know he visits all those make-a-wish kids but has anyone ever asked them later whether they actually enjoyed the visit? I bet they were bored out of their minds.
I'm glad football doesn't start that early here. A bad result would really ruin an entire day rather than just the second half of it. Plus you couldn't drink during it.
For some people having a tenuous connection to a celebrity is the highlight of their lives.
I work in entertainment journalism and I've interacted with hundreds of celebrities, minor and major. To watch members of the public interact with some celebrities is often sad and even sometimes infuriating.
I still am stunned how this is not an automatic thing for everyone. Even if Im going three blocks, my seat belt is on every time. I'm not getting ragdoll'd out the windshield
If you don't believe the stuff about the competitors being locked in a room with no light, food, or water for 24 hours before the match, which is reasonable, but knowing TNA, they mey have actually done it.
Mostly about Once Upon a Time in America. I try not to talk about the same old shit with celebrities and try to bring up less famous work that they don't get asked about all the time.
When I told Robin Williams that I loved him in Popeye he laughed his ass off. Making the funniest man alive laugh makes you feel good about yourself
When I met Penn after his vegas show, I mentioned something from his podcast which had just started a couple weeks prior. I made him laugh because I was the first person after one of his shows to reference his podcast. So we spent a couple minutes together talking about his podcast even though there were a bunch of people waiting to meet him.
I expect that sort of thing from kids, but the adults who do that shit, come on. Hey dumpy 25 year-old woman, Beyonce is not going to come hang out with you.
Ok but who cares about what made more money, other than the people making money off of it? Are people really fans of watching people make money, even if it's making something they don't enjoy? If so they should leave wrestling and comic strips alone and start following Exxon/Mobil and various Chinese banks.
Lemme say it yeah lemme say out loud and lemme POINT to the PRESIDENT of the World Wrestling Federation the Macho Man is not haaaaaappy with your decision yeah I AM THE CREAM of the World Wrestling Federation
Yeah it takes the shine off these people pretty quickly when you have to tell a TV star they called too early for your interview, and to call you back in a half hour. I wasn't dealing with Ahnold and De Niro, though.
Have your parents ever imposed restrictions on whom you could date when you were at school? I still remember my mum being mad as hell when she found I was making out with this Pakistani chick in junior high(I'm Indian). After that, she made me swear that I'll only ever marry a Hindu. So of course,I only ever dated non-Hindu chicks after that.
absolutely. After penn, we met teller. We were the last people in line and there was no one to take our picture. So teller just said "here give me the camera." so we gave it to him and he took it and said "say selfie."
When you have a show in Vegas like that, it pays to be good to your fans. They need people like you to talk about how great they are. It's free publicity because it builds a lot of great goodwill
I remember commenting somewhere online several years ago that I just couldn't watch TNA because it stank too much of a Frankenstein corpse made up of bits & pieces of WCW, ECW & cast-off WWE stars all stitched together. That was before they did the straight-up ECW reunion shows and brought in Hogan & Bischoff.
For all the great matches they've had (even I can say I've seen them put on some legitimately great ones), to me I can't really point to any extended periods where they followed up on that stuff their fans went crazy over and seized upon it as a basis of forming their own identity. You can't say that about ECW. Pretty much from the moment they became "Extreme" til the day Vince bought 'em they were different.
I think their legacy will ultimately be one of disappointment because of those flashes of greatness they showed. They've had some of the greatest talent in wrestling history in their ring. Many great minds in the business came and went behind the scenes. They had probably the 3rd best television presence of the modern era. All of that, yet look where they are now.
I laugh when you see "Pls follow me!" to celebrities. From 14 year old girls to Taylor Swift I expect it. When it's a 28 year old -- especially a 28 year old dude -- you're a sad, pathetic human being
No, I guess mainly because I was rubbish with girls. But Dad did go through this weird phase where he wouldn't let me listen to Megadeth because he didn't want Satanist bands in the house. We weren't even Christian. Obviously Megadeth became my favourite band for years.
I've had similar jobs working with famous sports people... it really changes your perspective on celebrities, and how batshit insane most commoners are about them.
Worst question I ever heard someone ask a celebrity: Someone asked Cyndi Lauper if it was exciting visiting New York and if she did anything touristy in the city. Without being mean about it, she responded, "Well, I'm from Queens, so I'm not really a tourist."
I didn't feel like Cormier was talking shit, more like he was just addressing the elephant in the room and acknowledging he's ready for him for the fight he deserves when he comes back.
I mean, I'll gladly get paid millions to do what I love (sports, acting, music, whatever), but to have deal with batshit crazy fans can't be fun.
I have seen middle-aged women lose their shit in the presence of Ben Affleck and have to be held back by security guards. Others spoke to him as if Affleck waited his entire life to hear what she had to say
While I will say that much of the "ECW Love" is because WWE "endorsed" them (if WWE hadn't, do you REALLY think that so many people would be chanting "ECW" and claiming they've been fans since they were a thing? No. ECW would be a thing remembered fondly by a few thousand people, and there would be no real "ECW" chants at all. Let's not kid ourselves that the ECW "popularity" has all that much to do with ECW itself), TNA is in no way greater than ECW was.
They could have been, mind you.
If they'd stuck with what they were good at -- being a bridge between the wrestling of the indies and the "soap opera" of WWE, TNA could have been a very viable thing. Actually, even the WWE has picked up on that with their booking of NXT.
TNA should have been doing what NXT is doing now, but on a greater scale. When they did this stuff is when we saw amazing things from them -- the X-Division, Joe/Daniels/AJ, The Phenomenal Angels vs LAX, XXX vs AMW, Angle vs Wolfe, Roode vs the World.
When they didn't -- when they decided to "out WWE" WWE (which they seemed to try constantly) we end up with stuff like VKM and reverse battle royals and whatever the hell they did to MEM (which started out great as a concept, and deteriorated quickly)
As a "realistic TNA fan" (I guess ex TNA fan, since I haven't watched them since 2013 except for the occasional clip), it's really disappointing. Not because of what TNA is, but what they should have been and easily COULD have been without much effort at all.
More than WCW, more than ECW, they'll go down as the most disappointing fed ever, simply because they had all of the pieces, none of the crap of "guaranteed contracts" that screwed WCW, but seemed to CHOOSE to do stupid things. It's like they couldn't help themselves. And now, it's pretty much too late -- the ship is irreparably broken -- they need to jump.
Well, that's great to say, but you realize that they "became world champions in the company that matters" because ECW couldn't pay them, right (or at least not what WCW and WWE were paying)?
Had ECW stuck around and actually been a viable entity to work for, how many of those wrestlers would have been young enough to WWE to hire after 7,8, 10 more years? Do you think that if Benoit or Eddie or Austin or Foley had been able to make a living in ECW (and were happy there), do you think that they would have gone to WWE or WCW to begin with? Do you think that if they were with ECW for 10 more years that WWE (if it was still in business) would be banging down their doors to make them world champ?
I guess history is rewritten by the victors, but your claiming that ECW built the major careers of guys is just rewritten history to the point of fiction. People left ECW because they weren't being paid enough and then they happened to be world champs. They weren't necessarily world champs "because ECW".
Watching The Song Remains The Same on Palladia. Think we'll ever see a rock group in the future that will attain the same level of success and notoriety like Led Zeppelin?
I'd never expect anything at the level of a press release, but certainly something on social media: something as simple as a tweet saying they are pleased with Impact Wrestling. There's gotta be someone working in the PR department that knows this is going on.
Unfortunately, no. Rock music, as far as marketing and sales, is on the decline. More rock radio stations are changing formats because there is no support, really.
So I watched NJPW on AXS from Friday night this morning, and I dvr'ed both episodes as I am completely new to NJPW and couldn't help but immediately be intrigued by Bullet Club and wound up spending hours on YouTube watching clips, and not trying to troll at all, but how is this different than NWO in that they have now been around for 2+ years without a clear payoff in sight. Do the Japan storylines just not go to a natural conclusion the way American storylines do (like I said this was my first exposure to NJPW and basically Japan in general other than some FMW dvds years ago)? Or is NJPW in a "boom" period and just can't let go of that t-shirt money the same way WCW couldn't with NWO?
I'd say maybe on the success. The right group at the right time... ? But as for notoriety, no. The fabled excesses of rock stars are pretty much commonplace now.
Double Wide Grill. Fuck yeah. Get in my face, seitan wings!
ReplyDeleteSo anyone else watching Indy?
ReplyDeleteThat was quite the UFC card last night. Those fights were crazy.

ReplyDeleteMight be my favorite tweet of all time. I am forever referring to Cena as John Scenario now.
That just...... fits.
ReplyDeleteIt's only 10am and already have United soccer and "Tombstone" under my belt. Good start to today
ReplyDeleteNow I'm craving some hot wings. Thanks buddy.
ReplyDeleteI thought the colts don't play for a few more months and the pacers are out of it

ReplyDeleteMy god.
Tombstone is one of the most rewatchable movies of all time.
ReplyDeleteare you surprised?
ReplyDeleteRaiders of the Lost Ark is great, but I don't care much about the rest of them.
ReplyDeleteYou only have two starters going today. That ERA and WHIP is up for grabs today.
ReplyDeleteYeah. I figure Jones would destroy Cormier again, I'm not hyped for a rematch with those even if it's possible. I also wanted Johnson to win. Hoping Gusstafson wins his next fight and gets back in the picture.

John Nash (the beautiful mind guy) died yesterday
ReplyDeleteI'm watching Paige VanZant UFC fights. God damn this girl is adorable.
ReplyDeleteYou know what's interesting about HoH? I've watched a couple of the weekly shows they've produced for Fight Network, and it's really not a hardcore show. ReplyDeleteYeah just read about that, crazy. Ejected from the vehicle in a taxi accident
ReplyDeleteAlways,ALWAYS wear a seatbelt while in a car.
ReplyDeleteBecause NXT doesn't have fifty writers doing fifty things while Vince and Dunn treat it as their own personal in-joke
ReplyDeleteChris really took the high road after the fight, too. I'm not much for his "MURICA! JESUS!" stuff, but at least he was smart enough to clarify that he thanks Jesus for the good things in his life, not for winning the fight.

ReplyDeleteAnd one of the manliest
ReplyDeleteWeidman sounded like a low-rent Brock Lesnar.
ReplyDeleteStill kicking myself for not starting Paxton but two good starts can turn it around
ReplyDeleteI was shocked when I did the math, too. Those WWE years are immortalized, while a good portion of the audience probably think he died in 2006.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah, it's not strictly an ECW reunion show -- Dreamer does an excellent mix of different styles. Shane Douglas's "Extreme Reunion" series is more of a "sad collection of 40 year olds hitting each other with chairs", but I think he's no longer promoting those

Of course! ROH! ROH! ROH!
ReplyDeleteHe let his FISTS DO THE TALKING YEAH. It was good to see Weidman get a real decisive quick win like that. I think he really needed that.
ReplyDeletehttp://cdn.meme.am/instances/500x/62491672.jpg
ReplyDeletehis wife from the movie also died
ReplyDeleteA TNA reunion show would just be Kurt Angle and the like doing WWE nostalgia shows. That's the problem with TNA - aside from the X-Division heydays of 04-06 they have no identity.
ReplyDeleteNo doubt. His vendetta run at the end is fantastic
ReplyDeleteI think I'm just gonna spend all day checking out weird twitter wrestling fandom.
ReplyDeleteLol the Indy chairman got Kanye'd by his granddaughter while doing the "start your engines" intro

So... his wife or the person who played his wife in the movie?
ReplyDeleteThe multiple hacked posts are funny tho.
ReplyDeleteHas anyone seen the trailer for Knock Knock, the new Keanu Reeves movie. It looks epically shitty in the best way possible.
ReplyDeletehis wife
ReplyDeleteFinally, the Braden Walker doc we deserve!

Despite its flaws and overall mediocrity, Garfield every now and then has flashes of brilliance.
ReplyDeleteGarfield = WWE!!
I don't think "I'm a Dixie Carter guy" would have the same impact as "I'm a Paul Haymen" guy
ReplyDeleteJohn Scenario's twitter is awful. Just nothing but motivational messages.
ReplyDeleteYikes, first time in 20 years that no movie hit $40 million on Memorial Day weekend
ReplyDeleteThat's usually the big super hero spot.
ReplyDeleteThose teeth...
ReplyDeleteThe man has no personality. I know he visits all those make-a-wish kids but has anyone ever asked them later whether they actually enjoyed the visit? I bet they were bored out of their minds.
ReplyDeleteI think you might have to expand that to like 30 years because, damn, C&H have been gone a long time :/ But yeah, the point stands.
ReplyDeleteECW is to wrestling what "The Velvet Underground and Nico" is to music.
ReplyDeleteAll wads were blown with Avengers and Mad Max. Nothing special opened up this weekend.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad football doesn't start that early here. A bad result would really ruin an entire day rather than just the second half of it. Plus you couldn't drink during it.
ReplyDeleteReal question: What exactly is unique about Monster's Ball? Isn't it just a 4 way hardcore match?
ReplyDeleteTomorrowland was supposed to be, but bad reviews and a too-secret John Carter-esque marketing campaign squashed it.
ReplyDeleteThere are people who put the date that someone famous followed them or responded to a tweet in their bios.
ReplyDeleteI bought their complete box set over a decade ago.

Worth EVERY penny.
Would the TNA reunion show run in Vance Middle School Gym, a 95% empty minor league ballpark, or a small corner of the Astrodome?
ReplyDelete20 years, Watterson's last strip was Jan 1 1996.
ReplyDeleteActually, only X-Men has had releases in that spot in terms of superheroes, but it's a big sequel window -- MIB 3, Indy 4, Episode 3, Hangover 2, etc
ReplyDeletesame with pitch perfect
ReplyDeleteVance Middle School would be too large for the crowd. I'm thinking a CZW staple, the outdoor field with folding chairs and car headlights.
ReplyDeleteFor some reason I was thinking about the first week in May.
ReplyDeleteAlso isn't ECW responsible, at least on a notable level, for the three-way dance? That trumps every gimmick match TNA came up with.
ReplyDeleteOnly celeb who ever Tweeted me back was Jay Bilas and it was over us both joking about his role in the Dolph Lundgren classic I Come In Peace.
ReplyDeleteAlthough Maffew has favorited a few of mine during PPVs, too. But I hardly tweet in recent times.
You mean people actually went outside? No freaking way!
ReplyDeleteThis is the reason why TMZ and the like will be around in the Idiocracy Era: too many weak people living vicariously through celebrities.
ReplyDeleteTrumps WWE triple threat matches too. Fuck the first person to get a pin wins bullshit.

ReplyDeleteLike PPV results over the last five years, it just all blends together
ReplyDeleteEven the Reverse Battle Royal?
ReplyDeleteand people who you have no idea why they are a celebrity like the kardashians, honey booboo and duggars
ReplyDeleteThe day after Wrestlemania, JBL blocked me on Twitter.
ReplyDeleteOn May 22nd 2015, Vince Russo blocked me on Twitter.
What the hell is this outside crap, pal?! Who needs Vitamin D goddammit?!
ReplyDeleteCuz dem peeple izz on da teevee.
ReplyDeleteI've interacted with a few celebs on twitter. Talking with Richard Dreyfuss about Encounters 2 was cool.

ReplyDeletelmao
who is the most well-known celeb you have met?
ReplyDeleteI still am stunned how this is not an automatic thing for everyone. Even if Im going three blocks, my seat belt is on every time. I'm not getting ragdoll'd out the windshield
ReplyDeleteI'm still chuffed beyond words that I've chatted with John Petrie on here. Not kidding.
ReplyDeleteIf you don't believe the stuff about the competitors being locked in a room with no light, food, or water for 24 hours before the match, which is reasonable, but knowing TNA, they mey have actually done it.
ReplyDeleteand the people who don't do it are some of the most stupid people ever (excluding john nash)
ReplyDeleteMet (as in had a conversation with): Robert De Niro
ReplyDeleteSeen (as in been within 5 feet of but didn't have a personal conversation): Arnold Schwarzenegger
Who is John Petrie?
ReplyDeleteFor shame.
ReplyDeleteI was actually surprised that Arnold wasn't taller. Spotted him in Solvang, CA a long time ago
ReplyDeleteI was within 5 feet of Tom Cruise. Was so fucking tempted to yell out something about Scientology.
ReplyDeleteGov Schwarzenegger came to my school about 10 years ago. all of the kids were super fucking excited
ReplyDeleteI would've probably bugged him with What About Bob quotes till he blocked me.
ReplyDeleteYou think he's gone?! He's not gone that's the whole point! HES NEVER GONE!!!
No, INCLUDING Mr. Nash. Stupid is stupid.
ReplyDeleteYes, I think he would have probably reacted exactly like he did to Bob in that movie.
ReplyDeleteso what did you and robert deniro talk about?
ReplyDeleteThat's sound advice
ReplyDeleteYeah, he's definitely not the 6'2" he claims. I'm 5'11" and I thought I was slightly taller.
ReplyDeleteAlso when Dreamer or Team 3d appears at some indy show you can hear "ECW" chants. When ex-TNA guys appears it's "Fuck TNA" chants
ReplyDeleteI do believe that was sarcasm.
ReplyDeleteThe biggest celeb to tweet me back was Austin. He's pretty interactive, though.
ReplyDeleteNot worth the risk. They'd totally find out you were and go after your entire life.

ReplyDeleteI seriously don't know who John Petrie is.
ReplyDeleteWhen I met Penn after his vegas show, I mentioned something from his podcast which had just started a couple weeks prior. ReplyDeleteHe defintely looked 5'11" tops, it was weird.
ReplyDeleteTo be a page that doesn't exist? You insensitive tool. I have goals, and one goal is existing.
ReplyDeleteI used to not like that rule, either, but I've come to appreciate it more, due to the near fall scenarios it creates.

ReplyDeleteRob Petrie's evil brother. HE was the one who put the ottoman in his way.
ReplyDeleteI scouted her out in Invicta a couple of years ago. She's super-cute, even more so I think when her hair is braided for fights.
ReplyDeleteHave your parents ever imposed restrictions on whom you could date when you were at school?

No, because I'm not a douchebag.
ReplyDeleteYeah. Even leaving ECW out of it, Ring of Honor absolutely trounces TNA in terms of influence.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, from my experience most actors tend to be a lot shorter than you think.
ReplyDeleteabsolutely. After penn, we met teller. We were the last people in line and there was no one to take our picture. So teller just said "here give me the camera." so we gave it to him and he took it and said "say selfie."
ReplyDeleteNo, in fact, I was so much an introvert that my parents were almost begging me to go gIVE a girl a pregnancy scare
ReplyDeleteDixie Carter's mentions are hilarious.
ReplyDeleteWhen you have a show in Vegas like that, it pays to be good to your fans. They need people like you to talk about how great they are. It's free publicity because it builds a lot of great goodwill

Many great minds in the business came and went behind the scenes. They had probably the 3rd best television presence of the modern era. All of that, yet look where they are now.
I laugh when you see "Pls follow me!" to celebrities. From 14 year old girls to Taylor Swift I expect it. When it's a 28 year old -- especially a 28 year old dude -- you're a sad, pathetic human being
ReplyDeleteNo, I guess mainly because I was rubbish with girls. But Dad did go through this weird phase where he wouldn't let me listen to Megadeth because he didn't want Satanist bands in the house. We weren't even Christian. Obviously Megadeth became my favourite band for years.
ReplyDeleteIf you ever do see p&t, go about 20-30 min early to see a couple behind the scenes stuff like penn playing the bass
ReplyDeletelooooooooooool
ReplyDeleteI bought Youthanasia on a church youth group Christmas shopping trip, lol. And I was proud of that.
ReplyDeleteNo. My trash parents were pushing me a pump out a kid by 14.
ReplyDeleteI better see Rusney Castillo using two hands when he shags those fly balls.
ReplyDeleteNice. It was 1994 when all this was going down. Good album.
ReplyDeleteI've had similar jobs working with famous sports people... it really changes your perspective on celebrities, and how batshit insane most commoners are about them.
ReplyDeleteWorst question I ever heard someone ask a celebrity: Someone asked Cyndi Lauper if it was exciting visiting New York and if she did anything touristy in the city. Without being mean about it, she responded, "Well, I'm from Queens, so I'm not really a tourist."
ReplyDeleteRoH is to WWE what Ohio Valley was to WWF circa 2001.
ReplyDelete"And if you feel just like a tourist in the city you were born
ReplyDeleteThen it's time to go."
-Death Cab for Cutie, "You Are a Tourist".
TNA is to WWE what that promotion that produced Nathan Jones was.
ReplyDeleteOne very fascinating person.
ReplyDeleteWWA
ReplyDeleteOh no. I need to leave St. Louis. The horror.
ReplyDeleteI would on principle.
ReplyDeleteIt's a shame. I like the Illinois college town where I live, but the rest of this region is really crummy.
ReplyDeleteMegadeth on Nitro got alot of flack for the lack of ratings, but Goldberg coming out to Crush Em was a great moment.
ReplyDeleteSo great they went straight to commercial without warning.
I didn't feel like Cormier was talking shit, more like he was just addressing the elephant in the room and acknowledging he's ready for him for the fight he deserves when he comes back.
ReplyDeleteI mean, I'll gladly get paid millions to do what I love (sports, acting, music, whatever), but to have deal with batshit crazy fans can't be fun.
ReplyDeleteI have seen middle-aged women lose their shit in the presence of Ben Affleck and have to be held back by security guards. Others spoke to him as if Affleck waited his entire life to hear what she had to say
Went to BWW for the show (like usual). Hell of a time. The people there were loud as hell and oohing and aahing the whole night.
ReplyDeleteFar too much TNA talk on this blog lately. Can't we have some good CM Punk leaving is a work emails instead?
ReplyDeleteWasn't it Barbara Walters who once asked a celebrity if she were a tree, what kind would she be?
ReplyDeleteTomorrowland didn't interest me (and apparently a lot of other people), and I still need to see Mad Max. Hopefully tonight.
ReplyDeleteYou gotta admit TNA is worth all the chatter lately. A modern day WCW that's ready to die the same way WCW did.
ReplyDeleteYou mean Jane Fonda killed TNA, too?
ReplyDeleteI don't know, but I remember Kathy Lee asked Martin Short how he and his wife remain married so long... almost 2 years after Short's wife died.
ReplyDeleteThe YouTube clip was so cringeworthy because Kathy Lee is asking him about his wife in a way that she clearly thinks she is still alive
My buddy is Indian and only dated Asian chicks. But as he grew older, he wanted (and married) an Indian girl based on familiarity of culture.
ReplyDeleteWhile I will say that much of the "ECW Love" is because WWE "endorsed" them (if WWE hadn't, do you REALLY think that so many people would be chanting "ECW" and claiming they've been fans since they were a thing? No. ECW would be a thing remembered fondly by a few thousand people, and there would be no real "ECW" chants at all. Let's not kid ourselves that the ECW "popularity" has all that much to do with ECW itself), TNA is in no way greater than ECW was.
ReplyDeleteThey could have been, mind you.
Thank you, Mike Napoli. 4 HR in the last 3 games.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of bad celebrity interviews, I miss The Chris Farley Show
ReplyDeleteChris Farley: You remember when you were with the Beatles?
Paul McCartney: Yes.
Chris Farley: That was awesome.
Yep, my friends and family in attendance threw garbage in the ring.
ReplyDeleteGood lord. Never heard of that one. Now I have to look it up.
ReplyDeleteThat's one of the ways they're cutting costs in the future.
ReplyDeleteRemember when those rumors came out about you dying? That was a hoax, right?
ReplyDeleteHa ha. I saw that email. That was a very interesting take on their death.
ReplyDeleteTNA was never close to anything like WCW.
ReplyDeleteIt's been 4 days since the "Destination America is cancelling TNA" rumor went to press.
ReplyDeleteDestination America has yet to confirm or deny it, and statements from TNA seem intentionally vague
That is true but they were run pretty much the same way.
ReplyDeleteWell, that's great to say, but you realize that they "became world champions in the company that matters" because ECW couldn't pay them, right (or at least not what WCW and WWE were paying)?
ReplyDeleteHad ECW stuck around and actually been a viable entity to work for, how many of those wrestlers would have been young enough to WWE to hire after 7,8, 10 more years? Do you think that if Benoit or Eddie or Austin or Foley had been able to make a living in ECW (and were happy there), do you think that they would have gone to WWE or WCW to begin with? Do you think that if they were with ECW for 10 more years that WWE (if it was still in business) would be banging down their doors to make them world champ?
I guess history is rewritten by the victors, but your claiming that ECW built the major careers of guys is just rewritten history to the point of fiction. People left ECW because they weren't being paid enough and then they happened to be world champs. They weren't necessarily world champs "because ECW".
Remember when you got arrested in Japan?
ReplyDeleteStupid stupid! I'm so stupid!
Meltzer is being worked by a sloppy angle.
ReplyDeleteWhy would they? TNA is so irrelevant to anything, there is no reason for DA to do anything.
ReplyDeleteWatching The Song Remains The Same on Palladia.
ReplyDeleteThink we'll ever see a rock group in the future that will attain the same level of success and notoriety like Led Zeppelin?
Great booking and angles > great in-ring product. 1980s WWF proved that, and so did ECW.
ReplyDeleteNotoriety in what way? That they stole all their music from people without giving them credit?
ReplyDeleteI'd never expect anything at the level of a press release, but certainly something on social media: something as simple as a tweet saying they are pleased with Impact Wrestling. There's gotta be someone working in the PR department that knows this is going on.
ReplyDeleteKaren?
ReplyDeleteShame, enjoyed Tomorrowland
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, no. Rock music, as far as marketing and sales, is on the decline. More rock radio stations are changing formats because there is no support, really.
ReplyDeleteDoes that mean the cut and paste dirt sheets are giving us sloppy seconds?
ReplyDeleteLOL awesome.
ReplyDeleteBest analogy ever.
ReplyDeleteI'm still annoyed by Bryan being depushed and put with the Wyatts.
ReplyDeletePretty sure he means the sex, drugs and devil worship.
ReplyDeleteLong Memorial Day weekend. PR guys are on vacation and no one gives two shits about TNA. (I'm owly today)
ReplyDeleteThe man or woman who sent this email should be institutionalized.
ReplyDeleteNOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteOh. Well in that sense, Zeppelin has been outclassed by numerous bands already.
ReplyDeleteThat has been happening in the music business since day one and continues to this day.
ReplyDeleteI know, kid. It's heartbreaking, really.
ReplyDeleteShe asked that to Katherine Hepburn
ReplyDeleteSo I watched NJPW on AXS from Friday night this morning, and I dvr'ed both episodes as I am completely new to NJPW and couldn't help but immediately be intrigued by Bullet Club and wound up spending hours on YouTube watching clips, and not trying to troll at all, but how is this different than NWO in that they have now been around for 2+ years without a clear payoff in sight.
ReplyDeleteI'd say maybe on the success. The right group at the right time... ? But as for notoriety, no. The fabled excesses of rock stars are pretty much commonplace now.
ReplyDeleteI love that apparently that's exactly what Chris Farley was like
ReplyDeleteNever thought of Zeppelin as a devil group though Jimmy Page was pretty out there in his mansion with his teenaged girlfriends.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't really dead
ReplyDelete
