I'm curious about Brickhouse. I'd vote for him only to hear about Col. DeBeers and the watermelon.
ReplyDeleteNot New Jack or Dundee . Their crazy drunk bullshit is tiresome and offers no more insight into wrestling than any half mad hobo you'd find on the street.
ReplyDeleteDidnt they do that with Rusev vs Swagger on the raw before the ppv the first time they fought? I didnt mind that. It was different.
ReplyDeleteI think one reason Foley going off the Cell in '98 was such a HOLY S*** moment was that it happened so early in the match. No buildup, no teases, Taker just pitched him off the cell within a minute or so. No one saw that coming, at least not that soon.
ReplyDeleteSpeak for yourself. I couldnt get enough of the Usos/dust brothers variations we had to sit through for 3 months.
ReplyDeleteBrickhouse or Doring, I've seen both and they're funny guys. Although, Brickhouse is clearly fucked up for this. New Jack and Dundee are trash.
ReplyDeleteWe're all anxiously awaiting you B. Good review.
ReplyDeleteI have to get the photos up. They keep fucking up when I download them from my iPhone. I might have to sneak in more pics tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteIt's the "ECW" chant of this age, anything remotely entertaining will usually get it, because people want to chant it.
ReplyDeleteI believe in you. I love what I've read of it so far.
ReplyDeleteHe beat Zayn with Swiss Death during their insane 2/3 Falls match on NXT. Other than that, yeah, I have no idea.
ReplyDeleteHe should really revive the Shake, Rattle & Roll. No one's done that for 20 years.
ReplyDeleteI might go back for a shake and add that to the end. No kale bowls for me though.
ReplyDeleteBrickhouse Brown easily. The story about his first match alone is worth the price of the shoot.
ReplyDeleteCome on DASTARDLY DANNY~!
ReplyDeleteOh, that match was the drizling shits though.
ReplyDeleteFinisher kickouts can work in the context of a great match. Spamming them like a game of No Mercy is super dumb
"Hey Vince, I'm in the wrasslin' business."
ReplyDelete"Well, Ted, that's nice...but we're in the business of entertainment."--Vince McMahon
They've successfully destroyed the audience's actual interest in wrestling. Nobody cares about wrestling moves or counters. Nobody's going to get pinned unless they've been beaten nearly unconscious or caught with a small package due to a distraction. Nobody cares if someone works an arm or a leg or concentrates on the ribs to reduce their opponent's breath...because when the comeback happens, they'll forget to sell the arm, leg or ribs...and after the match, they won't sell anything.
I'm not sure that's a genie that you can shove back in the bottle. Once you've thrown Mankind off the top of the Cell, it's hard for an audience to worry, much less react, when their favorite is caught in an arm lock.
WWE should stand for World Wide Entertainment.
Doring!
ReplyDeleteAlways sad to look at the 1980s when people popped for a suplex and bought it as a near-fall (e.g. SummerSlam '91) versus today. But when everyone knows a finisher ends things, why pop for anything else?
ReplyDeleteAnd the commentary doesn't even bother selling the psychology either and laughs at what the see (e.g. Wyatt-Ambrose TLC match)

Wrestlers are literally discouraged from participating with the crowd by management and production (so, Kevin Dunn) since it's so thoroughly seen as a TV product. Hence you have stuff like always turning towards the hard camera for pins and whatnot. It's silly, since having a hot and involved crowd only IMPROVES the TV product.
