I'm not sure how many people remember Herb Abrams, but he was probably the worst owner in professional wrestling to get a national TV deal (and PPV), with an eccentric personality (to say the least), a habitual liar, someone who constantly stiffed workers on pay, ordered Steve Williams to break another wrestlers nose for whatever personal issues he had with him, and eventually died wearing a diaper, covered in baby oil, and chasing hookers while high off his ass on coke… and yet, I don't know if that's enough to be worse than Dixie Carter.
Ignoring the obvious, like letting guys like A.J. Styles walk with low-ball contract offers and throwing butt-loads of money at marginal celebrities and MMA fighter wrestling fans don't care about, here's a few things I can come up with…
Gives a "motivational" speech on TV that basically tells the entire roster that she is the supreme knower of all and they can either like it or leave it, and the speech wasn't part of a storyline.
On Hulk Hogan's last night, willingly lets him make the decision to have her, the newly minted "heel authority", begging and sobbing on her knees for him not to leave as if the entire world depended on 60 year old Hulk Hogan showing up.
Spike TV gives her one demand, not to hire Vince Russo under any capacity. It's the equivalent of Ren telling Stimpy not to press the self-destruct button.
The situation with Jesse Sorensen, among others with non-payment of injured talent (Zema Ion, Daffney…)
#askDixie. 'Nuff said.
And in an unrelated topic, who you got for Game 7, Rangers or Lightning?
I got the Lightning in the battle of teams who are about lose to the Ducks.
As bad as Dixie is, she at least seems to know her ass from a hole in the ground, so that's one up on Herb.
Yeah, I don't think there's any need to overthink this one. Let him continue to run roughshod over NXT through the summer, and at the next special in September, he drops it clean to Balor or Joe or whoever.
ReplyDeleteI would have him be in like a steel cage or lumberjack against joe or Sami or balor. He tries his stalling tactics but it doesn't work because he is trapped. He loses after his opponent beats him fair and square.
ReplyDeleteSo, since Owens just signed a new contract to go to the main roster, does that mean that Vince McMahon likes him? Wasn't there a rumor that Vince didn't like his look or something?
ReplyDeleteThe Ducks are done, man. Typical Ducks.
ReplyDeleteI'm still trying to figure out what I was supposed to dislike about Herb Abrams.
ReplyDelete"eventually died wearing a diaper, covered in baby oil, and chasing hookers while high off his ass on coke"
ReplyDeleteTalk about a way to go.
I'm trying to figure out why it was dumb to let AJ go. After she let a lot of the higher priced indy talent go she was pulling the same ratings she was with them so if anything from an ownership standpoint it seems like a smart move.
ReplyDeleteZayn or Joe cost Owens the title.
ReplyDeleteThat's about he only way i can go down.
Something similar to the Eddie Guerrero/Brock Lesnar match where Eddie won the belt.
Ref bump, either Zayn comes out and pummels him, or Joe comes out hits a muscle buster.
Balor, who's been hurt, gets to his feet, sees Owens down, heads to the top, foot stomp, new champ.
Protects Owens, gets the belt off him, puts a bow on the Zayn or Joe feud.
It think it's more the fact when used correctly, Styles is showing that he can help carry a promotion and be one of the best workers in the world. TNA just doesn't know how to create stars.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't say it was "dumb", but if he was the face of your promotion (he was around since day 1 and pushed like it most of the time), it comes across as a slap in the face when you offer him a salary cut and still wanted to pay Hogan X-amount of dollars per appearance when he, too, wasn't moving needles.
ReplyDeleteCorrection: No diaper. Just naked.
ReplyDeleteI'm in the camp that sees no problem low balling AJ. He'd been there 12 years and was on the wrong side of 35. At that point it's better to start developing and pushing different talent. Part of why he's so awesome in NJPW is that he's new and fresh.
ReplyDeleteI feel Zayn and Owens next match needs to be on a WWE PPV possibly over the U.S title with Zayn winning his first main roster belt. Itami or Baylor have enough mystique to end Owens reign.
ReplyDeleteIs Owens vs. Cena a title match? I don't think it is ...
ReplyDeleteFinn just beats him outright. The end.
ReplyDeleteScott's such a Blackhawks hater. I'd pretend to care, but Game 6 was legitimately the first hockey game I've watched this year.
ReplyDeleteDixie isn't outright stupid just a mark for more savvy people in the business to take advantage of. Herb Abrams seemed to be a legitimate fool.
ReplyDeleteThat he was chasing hookers. A good promoter had hookers brought to him.
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing his prediction is based on him liking Vancouver?
ReplyDeleteI was trying to figure out who should be the mitb winner this year and yeah, Owens is the perfect choice.
ReplyDelete"That's gotta be, that's gotta be Kane!:
ReplyDeleteHe had a ball bat in his hands too, according to Mick's first book.
ReplyDeleteThere are some really dumbass emails today.
ReplyDeleteNo love for DBry-HHH?
ReplyDeleteWhat? No. Who in their right minds would believe Owens could beat Brock?
ReplyDeleteYou have to have him submit. Doesn't matter who does it.
ReplyDeleteU mad bro?
ReplyDeleteDoesn't matter if you necessarily believe he could, it's do you want to see him try. Or better yet, to see Brock lay a whooping on the guy no one's been able to beat yet.
ReplyDeleteYep. Regal is a perfect example of how authority figures should be used these days.
ReplyDeleteTriple H probably has another five years of matches in him.
ReplyDeleteSting has...maybe one match left?
Triple H is so good he made Kevin Owens lose weight.
ReplyDeleteI'm one of the few people who like Mojo, I guess. I still stick to him and Ryder being an entertaining comedy (jobber) tag team...
ReplyDeleteJobbing wouldn't have hurt Trips one bit
ReplyDeleteNor does jobbing hurt Sting.
ReplyDeleteSo...what's your point? Fans needed a feel good moment in the first hour?
Hey, I like Bull Dempsey. We all have our weird choices.

I think it was Alex Greenfield who said that HHH can turn back into bad HHH when he's around certain people. Even after HHH was transitioning to internet favorite and wrestling savior, Greenfield said that anytime he got around Shawn, he snapped back into Klique mode.
ReplyDeleteHHH is old school and that includes the best and the worst of that. He believes in working hard, learning the craft, respecting those who have been around, but he also believes in the ruthless pragmatism the old school employed. Cutting off a guy at the knees used to be standard practice, and HHH learned how to do that better than anyone.
Something tells me that when HHH has a guy like Dusty in his ear, that's when the father figure comes out. Dusty is pragmatic, and will not mince words but he doesn't seem as prone to tear people down unnecessarily.
Re-read the other response. That's exactly why Sting should have gone over, Hunter.
ReplyDeleteYour other response?
ReplyDeleteOr Chris B's response?
Cause I don't see why Triple H being not harmed by losing to Sting or it being the "natural end" of the storyline is either true or relevant to the fact that Sting doesn't need to be winning matches in 2015.
