Tonight, Smackdown is on SyFy at 8pm EST, highlighted by Mark Henry vs. Ryback. Plus, MLB action, NHL & NBA free agency and more.
Also, as a quick programming note, I will be reviewing the Brickhouse Brown shoot interview next Thursday as I will be reviewing episodes of Brickhouse TV every other Saturday night, alternating them with my RoH reviews. And the shoot interview after that will be the 1994 WCW Timeline with Eric Bischoff.

Proners.
ReplyDeleteYou see because...
I'm excited about the Bischoff shoot.
ReplyDelete"Highlighted by Mark Henry vs. Ryback"
ReplyDeleteSeriously? They really aren't even trying anymore.
I watched the Cena debut angle against Angle the other night. It was fantastic. Wonderful debut match. Angle made Cena look like about five million dollars and Cena held up his end too. Showed tons of fire and looked ready.
ReplyDeleteThen right after he gets the respect handshake from the asshole champion Undertaker with no snide comment/attack at all. Heyman knows what's up.
I believe Cena was Undertaker's boy back then. Took him under his wing.
ReplyDelete7-0 Sox over the Jays in the 1st inning without an out being recorded. How can they blow this one?
ReplyDeleteBackstage? I never heard that. Undertaker's protege track record just improved.
ReplyDeleteWell at least I got SOMETHING done today, off to start vacation I'll probably be drunk later heheh
ReplyDeleteMe too. They bumped up the release from Mid August to the 14th.
ReplyDeleteThat is just ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteYou make it reeeeeeeally hard to like you when you type heheh
ReplyDeleteI don't remember where I'd heard it but I remember hearing about it back around 03-04. It's why Cena's the rare midcarder to feud with Taker to not get COMPLETELY destroyed in that era.
ReplyDeleteHeheheheheheh cool
ReplyDeleteMakes sense. That feud with Undertaker made Cena look good despite the loss which is not a common statement when it comes to Undertaker.
ReplyDeleteBest avatar yet.
ReplyDeleteIt turned Cena from joke to credible upper-midcarder. That almost never happens with Taker.
ReplyDeleteGlen Jacobs one of the only other examples?
ReplyDeleteJacobs and Foley.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah. DUH to Foley.
ReplyDeleteJays can't get an out, so the ump gives them one on an interference call.
ReplyDeleteSo it doesn't happen often...but when Taker DOES legitimize you you become a multi-time World Champion and long tenured employee.
ReplyDeleteBig Show's one of his guys too. Brock as well. Pretty much he was good with that whole Young Smackdown 2004 crew.
ReplyDeleteBrock Lesnar is one of the few people Undertaker never beat. By my calculations Lesnar is 2-0(1 NC) against Undertaker.
ReplyDeleteKinda bullshit how Crow Sting era has whitewashed Surfer Sting era.
ReplyDeleteCrow Sting's allure died with the goofy Starrcade finish with Hogan. It was all downhill from there.
ReplyDeleteThat said, I'm glad he kinda evolved and became more outgoing as the character progressed. The surfer due gimmick is kinda outdated.
Wow sounds like Kobe was sooooooo awful in that LMA meeting lol
ReplyDeletehttp://www.silverscreenandroll.com/2015/7/2/8887659/la-lakers-free-agency-kobe-bryant-lamarcus-aldridge-meeting
What the fuck was outgoing about brooding in the rafters?
ReplyDeleteMy new avatar is the greatest picture ever taken.
ReplyDeleteIt's almost like ESPN just reports rumors for clickbait...
ReplyDeleteEmployee was asked not to wear a skirt to work because it was pretty beat... and the tears bordered on inappropriate.
ReplyDeleteShe wore it again today... repaired by a line of binder clips.
It was long after that. One of my favorite moments was him confronting Ric Flair when Flair was "President of WCW". He goes nose to nose with Flair and he yells, "WE'RE GONNA TEAR IT UP TONIGHT! AREN'T WE, RIC! AREN'T WE, RIC!"
ReplyDeleteAnd both guys kinda lost it and began to snicker and laugh. Beyond that, you're right.
Kinky.
ReplyDeleteTonight, Smackdown is on SyFy at 8pm EST, highlighted by Mark Henry vs. Ryback.
ReplyDeleteI don't think you know what "highlighted" means
NASCAR is asking its fans to turn in the confederate flag for the murican one. That seems like a lateral move. I'd say more atrocities have been administered under old glory than the stars and bars.
ReplyDeleteI was there!
ReplyDeleteThe Ryback is a highlight of any viewing experience!
ReplyDeleteeveryone is already out lighting fireworks. They were the last ones left in the building.
ReplyDeleteNice! That's a perfect debut match.
ReplyDeleteI always debate myself with this: if someone is a stiff worker, does it truly qualify him as a great worker? Lesnar, for example, has great psychology only because he's really potatoing people. There's no art to it.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to start No Mercy 2000 at 8.
ReplyDeleteThe Rock vs Kurt Angle- WWF Title
Steve Austin vs Rikishi
Triple H vs Voldemort
Macklin's already dressed for the occasion.
She's a young girl, 22 or so, plenty of tats, recently colored her hair grey... and enjoyed my Slaughtered by Pantera ring tone.
ReplyDeleteThe thing is, she's just poor... and she's trying to fit into a professional environment. The higher ups at the firm have it out for her.
I read Disney is putting the press on them to shed costs. In a few years they will be Bleacher Report.
ReplyDeleteAnyone else having a miserable rat-fuck of a day at work?
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to hear that. That's terrible.
ReplyDeleteThe stipulation said come as you are and baby I gots my dancing shoes on!
ReplyDeleteI hate getting a cold during the summer
ReplyDeleteNever understood the Angle transition title reign. Rock should have won at Mania and kept it until 17.
ReplyDeleteYeah, but we won the war, so yay 'Murica.
ReplyDeleteI think they realized they had an all-time great debut year on their hands and wanted to maximize it for history.
ReplyDeleteAs a guy who started out in this line of work with a green pair of cargos, a tan pair of cargos, a white shirt, a black shirt, and a handful of ties from the Salvation Army... I can relate. But the firm directors just see something different, and it's not quite fair to her.
ReplyDeleteThat's not going to go well. If they wanted to bring American flags to the races, they would do so.
ReplyDeleteI had to work my ass off this week... close to 40 hours four days.
ReplyDeleteBut it flew by, I didn't have time to think if it sucked or not.
Not only does the confederate flag embody racism, it also embodies being a loser. You're 0/2 confederate flag lovers.
ReplyDeleteThey also have a lot of reigns that start in the fall and then lose it right before wrestle mania: angle, lesnar, sheamus, edge
ReplyDeleteNo art you say? http://cdn2-b.examiner.com/sites/default/files/styles/image_content_width/hash/70/74/7074ed6ac31b7691ad5f3a2e8bcb3181.png?itok=PMWvwXPp
ReplyDeleteWhat happened to the genres of Adult Contemporary or Adult Alternative music? I feel both all but disappeared around 2002.
ReplyDeleteEight minutes bitches. Actually a perfect time to watch this show as our Olympic and American hero rises to the top.
ReplyDeleteFoley comes to mind too.
ReplyDeletePost-grunge ate them up.
ReplyDeleteThey have a phrase for that: transition champion.
ReplyDeleteWhat's even post-grunge? Like Hole when they went all Smashing Pumpkin pop on Celebrity Skin?
ReplyDeleteWhenever I see Michael k Williams in a role, I only see him as Omar.
ReplyDeleteLike Kenny G or someone like that?
ReplyDeleteI heard Fade to Black by Metallica on the classic rock station at work yesterday. The songs that scared parents in the 80s... is now considered classic rock.
ReplyDeleteGood timing too because my avatar coincidentally is from this show. Totally unrelated.
ReplyDeleteYear 2 of 4 for consecutively great No Mercy PPVs
ReplyDeleteBrock giving Roman a receipt for being stiffed when they were against the ropes is one of the all time great wrestling moments.
ReplyDeleteNickelback and the like.
ReplyDeleteLike... lame shit. Fastball.
ReplyDeleteBoth have done terrible things to brown people. The stars and bars was the only one that actively enslaved them.
ReplyDeleteMy mom told me she couldn't listen to Ray Charles as a child cause he used to scream and moan.
ReplyDeleteA bunch of whining voices.
ReplyDeleteI think I'm making Angle my Facebook Profile pic for the weekend
ReplyDeleteLove that fucking match.
ReplyDeleteI think if you asked people in the business, if your style is that of a brawler (as opposed to a high flyer or mat technician), then it can be forgivable to work stiff if you can take it as well as dish it out, and you're doing it with skill and not just clumsily throwing potatoes. Personality comes into play too. A William Regal will work snug with a guy and they'll be fine with it, whereas a Bob Holly will maul someone and everyone writes it off to him being an asshole.
ReplyDeleteBully Ray having a meltdown over what star ratings critics give out is sad.
ReplyDeleteWho would have ever thought that Brock's matches would just become wildly different than anything else?
ReplyDeleteThat WM match is pretty damn one-of-a-kind, style wise.
Easily the biggest gap between what I thought the quality of the match would be and how great it turned out to be.
ReplyDeleteI'd consider Pearl Jam a candidate for adult contemporary now...
ReplyDeleteWhat flag was George Washington waving? I remember watching a film strip about his life when I was in elementary. He had a black lady for a maid and he treated her so nice. This was before I had any idea about slavery and all that stuff. I had a point to this when I started typing...I swear I did.
ReplyDeleteWait a second. 2002 still counts? Even with Katie Vick?
ReplyDeleteStarting the PPV now!
ReplyDeleteBecause his matches never reached **** without the Hardys and E&C killing themselves?
ReplyDeleteLying. It's been part of wrestling (and civilization) since its inception. Just say he wrestled house shows all week.
ReplyDeleteJericho bragging about ending the streak would have been hilarious.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely. It has no value if he retires with it. "Potential energy" if you will
ReplyDeleteI think they knew that Goldberg was probably there only surefire bet to outdraw Raw, even in 1998. Not saying other stuff wouldn't let them outdraw, but Goldberg was clearly their best shot. Considering Goldberg couldn't cut promos, the only way to use him was to let him go out every week and run over people.
ReplyDeleteWhat's funny is this was a case where they didn't lie much. I want to say the difference between the worked number and the real number was about 10 matches.
ReplyDeleteThere is truth to that, but the guy moved an insane amount of merchandise during his run. He'd have been a super effective monster heel if they'd booked him well.
ReplyDelete0.8 is a good number for that period, but well below the 1.5 they were expecting.
ReplyDeleteI've always wondered if that number was inclusive of refunds. It's been said about 20% of the audience got cut off early, though surely not all people requested refunds. They only offered the replay free in my area.
Still 0.78 seems low for that card, it's one of the most stacked shows ever, compared to Starrcade.
The idea that long title reigns won't work with modern audiences seems to be widely accepted although it is almost completely untested.
ReplyDeleteSome people in crowds chanting "Goldberg sucks" was hardly a reason to stop WCW's most successful storyline (Goldberg's winning streak) after the original NWO. Of course the streak wouldn't have lasted 7 years like Bruno. However, I have a hard time seeing how it didn't have at least another 6 months or even a year left in it. They pretty much just threw money away when Nash beat Goldberg (that and the finger poke of doom on the same night Foley won his first championship.) The one-two punch of those terrible decisions are what destroyed WCW beyond repair IMO.
ReplyDeleteYou'd have Cena.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely, but who is the babyface that finally beats him?

Jericho going HBK 97 would've been great.
ReplyDeleteShit, forgot him because he wasn't around at the time. Yes, absolutely Savage
