Benoit as WWE champ in 2005/2006

Any reason Benoit never got another world title run?  Especially in late '05 into '06 after he went to Smackdown and Batista was injured.  He was a more believable main eventer/world champion than Mysterio was and was still having great matches.  Think of the awesome Benoit/Angle WM22 world title match we could have gotten.  Or ...
