Saturday Night’s Main Event revival

What happened with the WWE and NBC's deal to bring back "Saturday Night's Main Event"?  It aired sporadically from 2006-2008 on NBC, then there weren't any specials after that.  Was that the length of the deal, or did it end up getting cut short for whatever reasons?  Oh dude, those last episodes bombed SOOOOOO hard.  ...
